Same shenanigans Ford and the other traditional American manufacturers have been pulling since the 1960s, maybe earlier. Take a stock chassis and base models and “dress them up” with new more sophisticated badging. A middle of the road sedan could go for significantly more with a few cheap additions to the exterior or interior. “rocky ridge” LMAO for $30K more. Also, didn’t Toyota release the black widow front end concept first? Is Ford knocking it off to sell trucks?

The ordering a normal $35k car online will come to an end. Manufacturers will once again start to fill stock orders and fill up lots to get people to buy/lease their vehicles on the spot like before the pandemic. Waiting for someone to visit your website to order a car isn't going to cut it if they think the bulk of their business is going to be like that, they'll lose more and more market share to brands that have units on the car lot ready to go. Things always revert to the mean. It's historically proven. Prices will come back down to normal (adjusting for inflation obviously) and that's that.

There is another reason why banks were willing to lend absurd amounts of money. Prices of both houses and cars were going up. so, if a customer would default on its debts then the bank could seize the house or the car and simply sell it. As a result of those rising prices banks wouldn't lose any money. Or so they thought. We saw the same thing in the 2000s with the housing bubble.

No, there are numerous differences between now and the housing crisis.
The root cause of the housing crisis were subprime mortgages being such a huge part of our economy which were bundled together and resold.
As these mortgages went into receivership the value of these packaged loans dropped at an incredible rate, therefore they could no longer be resold.
The main reason so many went into receivership was because of variable-rate mortgages being, basically, the default of subprime lending.
The vast majority of these mortgages were within one payment of being current until the balloon payments associated with variable-rate mortgages hit.
At that point massive amounts of people could not get back to current, leading to foreclosure.
Vehicles do not have balloon payments as they are not variable-rate loans.
You could make the case that a collision or unexpected, high-cost failure outside of warranty could be a major unexpected payment... but you could also say an unexpected HVAC/roof/foundation/electrical/external flood/or outside pipe failure leading to a massive water bill is far from impossible. Heck, even something covered by insurance has a standard $3000 deductible.
Also, auto lending is a FAR smaller piece of the economy than housing lending.
Also-also, the increased value of a house, even during peak housing cost increases would almost never cover the closing, legal, taxes, and other costs associated with the bank reselling a house. Put simply: your statement that a bank would or could seize a house and sell it for profit is incorrect.
In the theoretical event that an individual could do that you might be correct. For a bank or other corporation the costs are far higher.

@@tim3172 Nope. I was only talking about lending.
Let's assume that a house costs $ 400.000 and real estate prices go up in value then a bank is willing to lend say $ 400.000. If then the borrower defaults on his/her mortgage payments after then the house can be worth and fetch say $ 500.000. Then the bank will get back its money ($ 400.000).
When the bank lends $ 400.000 and real estate prices are going down then the banks risks that in a sale that house only will fetch $ 300.000. Then the bank risks a loss of $ 100.000. And making a loss is unacceptable in Capitalism.
The same story can be told for a used car.

I tried to buy a utility truck or van for a business I just started. The msrp was 60k and when I checked the local dealer it was > 100k and they are all electric. I live way out in the country. So now I have to use my personal TV pickup for the business.

I was looking at replacing my 2019 F150 and it would have worked out to almost double what I paid 4 years ago if you include the cost of the interest on the loan. And to top it of my dealer was saying there hardly any in stock when there was clearly lots of trucks available. Hopefully these prices go back down to somewhat reasonable levels soon. I can afford to pay the prices they want but am currently refusing to purchase one because I just don't see the value in these vehicles at the prices they are asking.

      @markadler8968 9 месяцев назад +2

@@pepsiholic4084 Nothing at all. It is a great truck, has super low miles on it and is almost paid for. I like to get new trucks for my business once the old ones are paid for. I can write off the lease and all related expenses on taxes then sell the truck and put the money I sell it for towards a new one. I have been doing this for decades and this is the first time I have hesitated on buying a new one because of the ridiculous prices. I would never buy a new expensive vehicle unless I could write it off as a business expense.

I know exactly who's buying them at these prices. Business owners. My boss is one of them, needs that new trucks every 2 years. Business owners get them on a lease and use them as a business expense. Nothing comes from their pocket. Regular people can't afford these trucks.
