unfortunately that is the knob it is a one piece set you'll have to pull down on the boot and unjam the jam nut like in the video and you'll see from there what to do. the round leather wraped gear display on top of the shift knob pulls off but it's on there good so you might have to twist and turn while pulling up to get it off. I replaced my factory shift knob with the desert eagle from twm performance. note this is on a (manual) 2015 challenger and not automatic. wasn't too sure if I mentioned that before.
LOL lefty loosey righty tighty >____> I just got mine off in like 30 seconds thanks to this video. Hopefully you watched this first and didnt just try to mess with it before knowing about that nut on the bottom, otherwise ya you might have made it too tight
Mine was stuck pretty good, I couldn't get it. luckily I brought my car to the dealership to get the AC fixed and I told them to loosen the shift stick while they had the car. Not sure if they had a specific tool or what but they even said it was tough to get off.
The OEM 2015 challenger shift knob is the same as the Viper.

Hunter it's tethered so it's on there snug. you could try spraying some lube like wd40 on it and twist left and right while pulling up.
how does the knob come off? I have a replacement knob only.
Damn. Thanks for the answer.
Does this work for 2010 RT Models?
How about for a 2011 where it has a plastic piece underneath the boot do you have to somehow get a part how do you take that apart
I'm not so sure about the 2011 one
How do you take off the knob only? I have a 2017 but I cannot get the knob to twist off.
Sorry for the late response but unfortunately it's just one long piece.
Could this be the same for a Dart? I am wanting to get a new shifter and knob, but don't want to get the stuff if I can't get it off.
See TwistedShifterz.com for an adapter for the Dodge Dart shifter to use one of the many shift knobs they have
Which way did you unscrew the jam nut. Mine won't even budge
