Name me a better TV Dad who did more with less, living in a hostile environment with no high school diploma. James Evans was the absolute best. Was he perfect?..no, but he loved his family and would break his back working to support them.
James did his best, but no kid should have to grow up in the Projects. He was irresponsible for having kids he couldn't afford and subjecting them to a crime infested environment.
Can I be honest with my Good times crew? The way they maintained in the projects for so long and the way they got through so many trials... they kept the fight in themselves. Anybody could end up poor, but this show just reminds you how life doesn’t stop. Everyone played their roles so well it just works. I wish this show wasn’t so underrated.

That smile she gave at the end was pure joy knowing her husband came through and that the good lord answered her prayers. Love this show. He always looked out for his family and he had a strong loyal wife by his side and kept his kids on the straight and narrow. They didn’t have much but at the end of the day they ALWAYS had each other.

James was making something like $2.50 an hour so that was like a week's pay. Most people pay at least the equivalent of that now. I'll bet most people in the projects paid less than that if they were on welfare. And no one would be evicted for missing a month's rent.

Stop allowing the world to make you see only skin color and worry about the devil dividing us with hatred and sin. I watched this show when I was little and felt like the Evans family were my family. I didn't have a dad at the time, and my own mom struggled to feed us. We weren't religious, and we weren't black but this show gave me hope in something I didn't have: family which is priceless and a religious structure which gave us all hope. I didn't realize it at the time, but Florida's faith on that show inspired me once I got saved. I hope you see past skin color and are reminded that we are all the same, and need the same things in life, especially Jesus regardless of what he looks like.
