    1. The Construction damage.
    2. Stopping the natural flow of the water and killing aquatic species.
    3. Releasing greenhouse gases.
    4. Bird population collapse.
    5. Weakening the biodiversity.
6.Removal of natural vegetation and infiltration
and many more limitations from a dam but we need electricity. We need alternative invention or engineering ideas to minimize the damage.

As an Assamese and been to the area I don't agree with the Subansiri Dam Project, most of these projects are big White elephants and a big ecological disaster it has been proven Umiam Barapani can't even supply Meghalaya Assam with power . .Instead of construction of dams best to divert part the river in the higher reaches and through a shaft penstock direct to the river so it can be discharged lower down .Subansiri is the home to a great fish the mighty Mahseer which migrates be between the higher and lower reaches and can grow to 40/50 lbs .It the design taken this into consideration .
As from its start in 1950's after the big Assam Earthquake of 1950 the tributaries of Subansiri like Dirgha, Kadam, Kakoi were blocked due to severe landslides and due to carrying out of huge amount of sediments from different places . The blockades were created by rock dams. These rivers have a great erosive power and it can make a new flow path diverted around the blockades. In most of the cases, these rivers transformed their original courses to flow again in diverse directions. Are the engineers aware what happened in 1950 with landslides causing dams to be made and burst causing huge devastation eg would the recent Uttarakhand Project but that was due to melting ice .I have seen with my own eyes 3 /4 12 ft x12 ft concrete blocks at Bhalukpong to protect the strategic road from Balipara to Bomdila be washed away .Never underestimate the power of nature and construction in one of the most highest earthquake prone zones is never easy -

@@PAAKGHARKADHUWAN hydropower is a clean energy , we r storing water bro not acid, ya in short term there will be lose of habitat but in long term it became a biological hotspot....
If we produce energy via fossil fuel it will long term impacts whole earth along with assam....
Solar pannal also had negative impact after 25 year it became another plastic and large solar park can even impact our weather patterns .....
If i can i would decently make a dam on brahmaputra in assam valley like china's 3 georges it would also drastically reduce our carbon footprint and a huge source of income for assam gov too by sale of enormous power....
