Sometimes there are no differences because many session guys In L.A. and Nashville go on tour as well. Some great session players who also tour. Lee Sklar Steve Lukather Michael Rhodes Dave Weckl John Patittuci John JR Robinson Paul Jackson Jr Russ Kunkel And so many many more.
Guys like Garth, who isn't really that talented as a musician or a singer, does what many do in his position, when you built up your name or brand; you go the CHEAP route, and hire the studio players, who work on a salary for the session, and that is thei rpay. Now if you're in the band, and the road musician you get ZERO Dollars from those studio albums!!! See where i'm coming from? Sorry i have never ever liked Garth or people like him! He pays his musicians a salary and that is it! Now go back to the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, as a 3 piece, he divided the money from the albums and the tour dates 1/3 for the band members! Then when the keyboard player was added, he told Tommy, and Chris, we get 25% now! Greg Allman said in an interview, he had never heard of the main guy and main writer ever doing that! That is called RESPECT!! Garth is all about enriching himself!
You sound a little bitter. Everyone in the game knows the game and they do it because they are getting paid one way or another. It's way more complicated you you lay out because a lot of studio guys don't want to go on the road and they do just fine keeping near the house. Other musicians love the road and want to play in front of people. Not everyone does an equal part, not everyone gets equally paid, not everyone gets justly paid nor justly credited, not everyone can be the songrwriter, the riff maker, etc. So yes, Garth and the record labels make most of the money because they layout the front costs and have the vision. I agree studio musicians should be better treated money wise, but there is thing of supply and demand that always comes into play, and there is plenty of supply of talent to keep the ball rolling as it is. As far as SRV, well he did what he felt was right for himself and you can't project that onto every other artists way of doing business. To me he should have had %50 upfront while the other two were %25 because he played, sung, and wrote.
The families deserve closure.

He nods his head and agrees when no question was asked. 😂😂😂
Difference is: there’s more places to hide a body on the road
Loved this 👍🏻😎
Thanks David....Joe
The difference between pop shows and musicians. Musicians write and play on the record.
