I believe Ochako Uraraka is My Hero Academia's Most Misunderstood Character and in this video we'll be discussing exactly why I think her and Himiko Toga's plotline parallel Deku and Shigaraki's plotlines in a way that reinforces the themes of MHA. Ochako has always been one of my favorite characters in MHA. There are fans who see her only as Midoriya's love interest. Yeah, she has a crush on him, but she's much more than that.

Although I still wish she got more things to do, I think by the Endeavor internship the manga took a turn to focusing too much on Deku, Bakugou and Shoto.
Uraraka's just around someplace, so I am glad that in the final battle she has a sort of moral conflict with Toga

Bro for real she’s underrated
I do often feel like Uraraka gets crap way too much. I’ve actually become quite invested in her storyline(regardless of IzuOcha or not).
In spite of Ochako being the lead female role of the series, I often feel that she's underrated in how important she is to the overall story. Who in class 1A has done more to help Deku in his progress? Arguably maybe Bakugo but that's as a rival. Love interest or not, Ochako has only been a positive influence to Deku. And I predict she's still going to have at least one more major moment in helping him before the series is done. Last but not least, I think it's refreshing that she's not a tsundere like most shonen lead females. The shonen genre could use more characters like her!
Love the scene where ochaco and shinso saved Deku. Also Deku is the protag so damn near everyone's plot mostly revolves around him.

And Uraraka reverse the plot back onto him... especially with Iida, Bakugo... So why does people hate her, when SHE herself brings Deku's plot back as a person, a hero, and a friend...
I'm so glad you talked about this because this is one of the main reasons she's one of my favs :) I love how both she (and Deku) both want to save people. In different points in the series they both say that, and it's another parallel i love
I've said it before in defense of her, and I'll say it again. Just because Uraraka is Deku's love interest, that doesn't mean that's all she is. She's way more than just Deku's love interest. So many fans just see the love interest portion. That's what's called flanderization. Where a character's prominent traits gradually become more prominent to the point where it becomes the character's only traits. Uraraka hasn't been subjected to flanderization in the series proper, but so many fan fics and discussion chooses to focus exclusively on the love interest aspect and make her out to be a love struck teenager with no personality other than jealousy.

Also, isn't Ochako like... 16? She's still a minor. She's not mentally equipped to provide a seamless answer a what... 250 year old sociopolitical problem in the span of 2 3-minute, superpowered fistfights. That's like asking a 15 y/o what the meaning of life is while holding 400 other children and their little brother hostage at gunpoint. Yes, Ochako was training to be a hero, but geez... Even IF she came up with the exact right answer, that doesn't make that a fair question to blindside her with in the heat of the moment... And under attack, no less! Ugh... people...

I’ve always imagined if she ever got a quirk awakening, she be able to make anything connected to what she touches float or just straight gravity manipulation
I'd say she would be able to manipulate the Anti-gravitational/gravitational fields of solid targets she has touched.
I’ve also imagined her using those stamp things nighteye uses since there super heavy and her quirk helps with that
I think ochako.quirk awakening will allows her to manipluate gravity like imagine she can alter the gravity of what ever she touches , say she she touches a rock and make it lighter than air or increase the gravity to something similar to king kai planet
It feels like a natrual evolution of her quirk.
YEAH, like how Shigaraki's grew. I coudl see that being an 11th hour moment where she can save everyone from Decay! Even MORE so though, i'd love to put a little flashback in of her training with Mirio, finding a way to playing wtih Gravity loss and grain the way Mirio plays with object overlapping. So she could rocket around really quickly with momentum and gravity loss-return: perhaps learn to "Fire" things forward with it instead of just dropping them.
Consider how powerful Graviton is in Avengers, that is literally his power
Ochaco is definitely one of my fav characters and I am interested to see how her final fight with toga will go
It’s going to be great cause Toga will summon Twice’s Blood to unleash Sad Man’s Parade against Ochaco & Tsuyu & both of them will manage to figure out how to defeat Twice by creating a new ultimate moves

I just love that she asked the question of, Who saves the hero? She’s put in the effort and she was the only one to jump in and actually try to help Deku. She’s a real one and she’s proven that.

Ochako is cool! I love her! She has my second favorite Quirk of the series (the first being Explosion), she has a very nice design, and I like her development. From "I want to make money for my parents" to "I want to save people" to "I want to save heroes and villains."
And yeah, there is that crush for Izuku, but I absolutely don't mind that. I feel like it's not even that much on the nose like some other female shonen characters.
Ochako is probably my favorite female main shonen character. (It's hard because Misaka from The Railgun series is up there too.)

Honestly keep the wanting to make money because it like indicates that she only cares about that when she helped Deku who she didn't know at that time, you can both want to make money and save people, not discarding each other. Though I do think that save heroes should be more emphasized because it addresses their self-sacrificing/destructive tendencies.

What I Hate more than IzuOcha Haters, are Ochaco's Haters. Ochaco is the Best and doesn't deserve the Hate she's receiving. They're treating like Mineta, or Worst like Sakura. I would have loved to see more of Ochako’s relationships with other characters, especially Iida and Tsuyu, the other characters she would see as her best friends. We see them hanging out but not much in the way of actual interactions like with Kaminari and Jiro, or Kirishima and Bakugo. Or even just talking with Deku about Toga, since that’s meant to be her storyline.

She's one of my favorite characters in MHA, luckily she's been given some fleshing out so far and built to mean something to the main story, unlike another female character I've always liked yet she fell short in the story...Sakura from Naruto, I know she gets a lot of hate, but after the Sasori fight I thought she had a chance for fleshing out and real character growth, but we didn't see anything til the war arc which didn't last long

Dang, Heroes and Villains both have giant flaws, you get born with super strong ability but you just need to use it in the right way, but there is no right way which means the villains are just potential heroes with bad days.
That's one of the reasons why I love this series. It shows the gray area between good and evil.

Amazing analysis, to be honest I'm actually really liked it when Horikoshi actually titled that chapter "A Young Woman's Declaration" and how Ochaco was finally able to get moment to shine, I hope that in future chapters that she will get more focus against her fight Toga. And for any haters out there, they aren't even paying attention to the manga at all. Reading isn't just looking at words, you would need to analyze them and then find the deeper meaning. Also I'm subscribing to your channel, hoping that other misunderstood characters can this amazing analysis like you did with Ochaco. 😁👌

uraraka always was the best female lead in mha, she made deku realise that he needs to relay on his friends and the fact uraraka speech clearly affect him and made him realise that his self worth is also important but i do think it needs to be more explained and i also agree with her parallels with toga made her realise that not all villains are born evil there made by soceity same with deku and shigaraki, todoroki and dabi parallels

Yes she is, and she's the best heroine today in modern new Shonen imo. Isn't that crazy? She's an amazing character, yet fully misunderstood. I made so many character analysis posts on her already to clear the nonsense around her up. She has lots of depth that goes unnoticed or ignored sadly, hopefully season 6 and the finale in the manga changes things which it should for looking things up there. I also like how you point out that ALL the students in MHA, to an extent, revolve around Deku. That's more of a way to "unify" them and make sure they're all relevant while still keeping the story focused on the mc..

Considering that Horikoshi is a Star Wars fan, I wouldn't be surprised if Uraraka is a metaphor for the Jedi who says to the Sith, "Come back to the Light."
Uraraka is really most underrated especially she was the main thing that Deku came back to UA

20. Koji Koda / Anima: He can call out all Animals & Insects
And All For One will learn that all Class 1-A has succeeded their mission to bring Deku back to UA after he decides to leave UA to do Villain Hunt & All For One adds everyone on target list & All For One will say that it was his idea to capture Deku from the start so that he can steal One For All
yeah in my opinion a great females lead and a great side character
Super good analysis. Like you said, she's obviously not the best character in the series or anything, but loads of people miss so much of her arc and how it's interwoven since way back in the Sports Festival.
My guess is that, pat though it is, Shigaraki "saved" moment will be taking AFO down in a way that ends him as well... haha sort of a "he redeemed himself" but we don't have to deal with the awkwardness of him trying to rejoin society
My hero has a lot of strong themes within its story that can make it one of the best shounen's, and Uraraka's journey has always interested me because it could potentially go from being a B plot to an A plot line, by which i mean "wanting to save hero's and villians" both as you mentioned and questioing what does being a hero mean. Uraraka does however need to be given more time and written a lot better than she is.
however unfortunately the progression and the writing of the story hasnt been as good as it could've been. but it could always get better. BUT FIRST GIVE HORIKOSHI A BREAK because he's clearly exhuasted.

Ochaco doesn’t get enough credit for literally realizing she was simping too hard for Deku and consciously put those feelings aside to focus on herself. That almost NEVER happens!
Her character development is underrated because her powers aren’t uber with her development buffed like say Noelle or Shippuden Sakura

Hey pineapple, im curious on what chapter will end off this season, i know you've done a video on it but , I feel that season 7 kinda HAS to start on stars and stripes some how? Cause I dont see how the big final arc can share a cour with another arc I feel like it should take up a whole season what do you think?

I think Season 7 will start with Tartarus Escapees follow by Star and Stripe & last is UA Traitor & it’s going to be another set up war just like Season 5 did & Final War will start on Season 8 cause the chapters might last around 30s or 40s but Paranormal Liberation War last until 54 chapters which means on Season 6 will last until 24 episodes & 1 episode of Tartarus Escapees will be the Season 6 Finale where Deku vs Muscular: rematch which means chapter 307-309 will be adapted on Season 6 the rest of chapters starting 310-328 will be adapted on Season 7 & Season 7 Finale will adapted one chapter from Final War starting 343 that’s it

Tartarus Escapees Arc is 22 Chapters
Star and Stripe Arc is 6 Chapters
UA Traitor Arc is 8 Chapters
Final War Arc is unknown how many Chapters will last cause the manga ends on end of December 2022 so I think the Final War will last until around 30s or 40s Chapters

Well, a lot of the editor’s prior manga’s have all gotten canceled rather early. So it’s like a trail of destruction he’s left behind.

Kinda wish she was more about making money but that was dropped after the Bakugo fight. Her thing being “The hero who helps heroes” just sounds vague to me, can’t put my finger on why. Maybe it’s how phrased, cause hero’s helping other heroes should be obvious, IMO. She had her moments (few and far between) but I like her Toga even if it toke a bit of a nosedive writing wise.
That's the thing tho, helping heroes *should* be obvious, but hero society warped the minds of people into thinking heroes are god-like celebrities who aren't just humans too. Ochako is the one to notice this and have this dilemma because she's personally lived it (her originally goal of supporting her parents).

there should've been more moments emphasising these point and sides of theis other characters (not only uraraka), sadly MHA recently really feels so rushed that there are a lot of things are missed and not given the time nor the emphasise they need.
That is the problem she is just a side character who is focusing on an important topic and she is like this character who always follows deku but still I don't know acts like they are the same pedestal every time. Even in this situation ochako is trying to understand and still did reject toga although it was not the end but still it's toga that has to make her understand that villians can be saved while deku is trying to save the world's biggest threat. The line about saving the heroes can be interpreted as just her realising that fact that heroes aren't also completely invulnerable but that's what needs to be changed heroes also need an outlet, they can't be heroes if they aren't mainly focusing on saving people as their main goal and the majority who can't do need to do other things to keep them sane. Everybody can't be satisfied just by seeing the citizens out of danger and it's taxing for a hero to continuously do that. That's why All Might was not able to do what deku is doing. He took on everybody's problem on his own shoulders and here the effort is a whole classes effort
Her giving speech at UA was about humanizing Deku (even mentioned his flaws), which is the opposite of idolizing.
Ochako is one of the best character. Her interaction with Deku is good
But she is right about protecting heroes, because a true hero carry everything and get nothing in return. Something that get dangerous in big turn. Villians are villians, even if they need saving it’s more to understand each other rather then rage out

Every 50 chapters she’ll one-shot judo someone (who usually doesn’t fight back) and has the most forced rivalry with Toga.

I seen many pics of IzuOcha Kids. And 1 of my Favorite is the boy looks just like Deku with his Messy Hair and Freckles, but has Ochaco's Brown Hair Color but is Messy like Deku's hair. And the Girl looks just like Ochaco with her Straight hair and Pink Blush Cheeks, but has Deku's Green Hair.
Honestly, I'm kind of the mixed one.
I love her character, and everything about her, and I'm like,
"Wow, so amazing"
But then Deku comes in and I'm like.
"Ermmmmm"
And it's not just Uraraka. It's Deku too. I really love their friendship more than their love, and for some reason which I'm not totally sure why, I never thought they were a good match for each other, but hey I guess that's not my choice to make.
Anyways she is a really good character. The only thing I didn't really like is when Deku lost control of Blackwhip and she tried to save him by grabbing onto him??
Now I'm not necessarily sure how that would've helped? In my opinion, the only way she helped was by telling shinsou to help.
And then in the end, she got more praise than shinso did just because she grabbed onto him. Which also was probably really dumb since she could've gotten hurt??
Maybe I didn't understand it properly but it just made no sense to me.
Apart from that. Ochaco and Toga's rivalry is amazing, and I agree with everything you said about it. She really is digging deeper into the emotional side of things and it's helping everyone all out. I definitely think that she will be able to save Toga in this one, and that's what everything has been building up to.

No you perfectly understood everything. She was just dum as f. Her whole character is to play ms izuku cuz remember season 1 when she was fighting 13. Aiyama randomly asked who you like, and he even said is it izuku. And then suddenly tsuyu wants to know what they were talking at that particular time. Like you said her saving izuku was dum as hell since izuku saved her right back from the fall. The ofa users and shinso saved izuku. That was just to give a lil bit of izuku x ochako. I don't know if she can even redeem herself but i will wait for it.

I am more of a Yauyorozu girl to be honest. She is the most useful after the main three to almost every conflict. Ochako's situation is she has compelling motives but Hirokoshi put so much time on her crush I can't stand her anymore. She wants to be rich but also wants to be a proper rescue hero and....what? There is no conflict. We know she is willing to risk her life from the start. She was never bigotted , dismissive or cruel even to villians If Hirokoshi gave her actual moral and pragmatic conflict for her character development. And Toga doesn't count especially in such a chaotic situation as a battlefield.
Heroes wanting to risk her life can be problematic cuz if they die then who'd protect? (It's ok to choose non self-sacrificing way to help others), Uraraka wants to address that by helping those risking tendencies.
I always just found her boring because to me she lost her personal goals and dreams after she lost to Bakugo and ever since then has just been " I won't give up, because that's what Deku would do!" Even when she gets her own storyline too (the stuff with Toga) I could honestly care less because they don't have anything making that rivalry feel personal besides their mutual crush. Whereas with Dabi and Todoroki or Midoriya and Shigaraki's rivalries are very much personal rivalries

@@lefleur6486 totally not though. I used to think Uraraka was a good female lead until I read other manga and watched other anime. She's now near the bottom of my list due to how generic and uninteresting her character is. Horikoshi seems to have this trend of giving characters 1 piece of development before they're demoted to a background character. Biggest example of this is Iida. He started out being in the top 5 most important characters (Izuku, All Might, Bakugo, Uraraka, Iida) and has since then just been a background character with no purpose

Bakugo,aizawa,enji,all for one and shiggy,miruko are all my favs.
I think miruko is better than ochako as a character with even less screen time. I lost it when she still fought after getting her arm and leg cut off. Miruko always goes solo and she doesn't even have a office but she finally learnt team work and was fighting together with bakugo and best jeanist. A literal side character beating ochako. Im not saying miruko is as good as some others but she is a decent character and i like her. This just shows how much worse ochako is.
toga, shigaraki and dabi dont deserve saving
Well, of course, Toga, Shigaraki, and Dabi don't deserve saving because after all, villains never change, do you think that they just wake up and realized the errors of their way no because what they want is the dark ages of villains to rise in other words, blood, darkness, chaos, and death. Frankly, what they want and desire is a load of garbage that shouldn't happen at all. Why else would heroes stop that from happening why else would heroes win and villains lose?

I have to continue part two of csm since its been long i have re read csm part 1. Power was a fiend who would do anything to just survive. She didn't have one bit of humanity in her. Her whole plot was linear and not dum as ochako getting a different ideal because working for money is underwhelming for main female lead even though its for her family. Power throughout the series had no remorse for her "friends" and would side with the people who can win. Her understanding her friends especially denji and face death for her friend was way more realistic. From design to powers to fights to ideals to characterization to character development b1tch you can't compare power with ochako. You can use any coping method you want but in the end you know how dum you are.

I can understand ochako being people's favs. For me she is like in the bottom pit imo.
Her whole screen time is just spent simping for izuku. They even changed her goal and inserted a random backstory so people won't flame her initial desire to just get money. Strength wise she is so underwhelming she can't even beat toga while toga is not using her quirk. Atleast she was a bit interesting in the deku rescue arc. Maybe she has something in the final arc . Still after all that she probably would still be in the very bottom of my favs lol. She is a bad character and that sets a bar or scale. If she is a better character then actual good characters have no meaning. But i can understand her being people's favorite.

Ochako has always been one of my favorite characters in MHA. There are fans who see her only as Midoriya's love interest. Yeah, she has a crush on him, but she's much more than that.
