    Your video just soloved my MIDI device problem that I have had for 2 weeks. I had gotten a document from apple about finding out how to test to see if my computer is getting the signal from my MIDSI device but I learn best from seeing, not reading. When you got to the part where you played a key on your keyboard and the up arrow lighted up - - yep that was the problem. My up arrow did not light up. Thank you sooooooo very musch for your great video.

    hello, first thanks for your video! I'm having an issue though when I test if my Mac is receiving the signals from my keyboard, the thing is it doesn't appear as a keyboard or a piano or whatever it appears as IAC thingy and then when I click to see if it can receive the signals from it it just beeps continuously even when I don't press a key on my keyboard (like a heartbeat) I must add tho that when I press a key the beep goes faster and when I click the other arrow my keyboard reacts (it presses all the keys at the same time)

      Hi Cristina. I looked at the M-Audio support website and it seems that the Keystation Mini 32 Mk3 is not supported under Ventura. It is quite an old controller now. So, you will need something more recent, or a class compliant device. See the compatibilty list here support.m-audio.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000824934-m-audio-macos-13-ventura-compatibility

      @@socialinterior Hi. Thanks so much for your reply. The key station is working fine already with the Ventura. Was a cable issue. He+s working with all apps. even Garage Band now. I wonder if it will work with Sonoma. But I will see when I do the upgrade. Thanks so much again.

    How do you setup expression faders?

    • @socialinterior
      @socialinterior  Год назад

      If you've established the basic input is working like in this video, then your computs will also be seeing your midi based faders on the controller. I'm pressing keys here but if I was moving faders they would register in audio/midi setup too. From there if you want to map these to parameters, this needs to be done within your DAW. There will be a 'midi controller assignment' or midi learn' function.

    Nice simple tutorial, Julian. However, you don't explain what to do if the MIDI device isn't registering input data. I have a Fantom 08 that shows up in the MIDI Studio, but it's not registering when I run the test MIDI setup you demonstrate. There's no indication that the OS (Monterey in this case) is receiving input data when I play the keys. I've deleted the device and it reappears in the MIDI Studio window when I reboot the keyboard, but the Mac still isn't receiving MIDI data. Any suggestions?

    • @socialinterior
      @socialinterior  Год назад +1

      Hi Doug. Thanks for your comment. The Roland Fantom G8 is long discountinued, so the first thing to check is that you have drivers that work with your current OS. The last revision of the driver was for OS10.10 Yosemite (2014-17). So, there is a chance the driver will not function properly on newer operating systems. That might be the most likely explanation. Here is another free utility that is useful to view incoming MIDI data. www.snoize.com/midimonitor/ If you are not seeing anything on this utility either, my guess is that your driver is incompatible with your operating system. Hope this helps

    • @DougRawady
      @DougRawady Год назад +1

      @@socialinterior, thanks for the quick reply. By the way, it's a Fantom 08 not G8, and I think I solved the problem. Took a bit of additional research, but it appears all that was needed was to switch one of the 16 internal zones to an external zone in order for MIDI data to be output to the MacBook Pro via USB.That did the trick.

    • @socialinterior
      @socialinterior  Год назад +1

      @@DougRawady Great that you found it. It's not the first thing that most people would think (that the controller is not sending MIDI at all)

    This, save my life. I'm using a PreSonus USB 96 with an old Casio Privia PX-310. Using Midi to the PreSonus but was not receiving signal in Ableton. Went through this to check midi to my old MacBook Pro circa 2016, was getting input so I knew it was then an Ableton issue and not the controller. Geeze. If anyone is also having issues with Ableton with an audio interface, check to make sure Ableton has the audio interface as an Input device, then tab over to Link, Tempo, MIDI in the Preferences and set the Input Ports to the audio interface.
