Montreux 1975 & 1977 were the best Jazz Festivals !!
Love me some "Billie's Bounce" especially the vibraphone solo!!
This is music that reflects the joy of life---- all too rare these days. At least where I live.
Basie was the greatest. Saw him at least a dozen times.
Henning Orsted-Pedersen brilliant. He was and is still one of my best bassists. Swing
Jazz music is a just the most beautiful thing.......
That Is what I call jamming
NHP. One of the greatest base players of all time.
Jazz at its best!! Basie has always been one of my favorite jazz bands. Swings from start to finish!!
Milt was so groovy.so swingy🎶🎉fantastic ,could n"t be nicer😊🎉
Pedeson was driving the band forward so hard 🎶👍☺
Mr. Basie a jazz legend!
I went to my first Basie concert in 1958 (at the Royal Festival hall, London). I never cease to be amazed to find more great musical moments Basie has created with so many wonderful musicians and combinations of groups. What has Basie so special that so many musicians wanted to perform with him?.
..
Basie´s laugh in every solo is priceless
That must have been the Sweetest band.
What a fantastic jam session
This is the best performance ever for F blues. Not only audience but all musicians here enjoyed playing. A lots of CEOs should learn how to move and motivate his men from Basie.
The Count has the most slick comping style. All pianists All pianists should listen and take notes.
Immortal talent, beyond compare.
Maybe one of the greatest jams I've ever heard. Basie fan from the beginning, the 30s, and Billie's Bounce with Coltrane's solo is maybe the best. Johnny Griffin, however, absolutely kills it. But the tempo here and the genius of all live is something I'll come back to again and again... My brother plays stand-up bass. I'm send him this NOW! Thank you for posting... (And Basie is unmatched. His sweet silences are unmatched.)
I AM A BASIE NUT HE WAS THE GREATEST .
My Old Man, a black WW2, Korean and Vietnam era Vet loved Basie and we jammed many a night and weekend to his joyous sounds. RIP Old Man.
Carl A For me Bill Basie’s band is the greatest ever big band !✌️🧓🏿
David: Caught the man in London.l956 Been follower since, He is the greatyest
Cool, pure class, a fabulous band leader and musician all in one guy
OMG!!! Louie Bellson, one of THE BIG FOUR!!!
Here, in this video COUNT BASIE looks very happy and also he is happy to bring his great musicians to this highest level. It's GREAT. Krikor from L. A. CA.
The Blues Will Never Die
I love jazz really my only music I can ever listen
That´s jazz. No further comments are needed.
Grandissssimo Basie!!!!
Juste génial ❤❤❤
It's a great tribute to a master musician Bill Basie that all the wonderful musicians here are really trying hard to come up to awesome level of swing and creativity that he established in jazz through the decades. There is no doubt at any moment who's in charge of the rhythm section and the whole proceedings and Basie does it with minimal fuss and effort.
BTW, this delightful jam occurred in 1975 (July 19 to be exact) and NOT in 77.
vova47 You’re correct! I did (again) attend the ‘77 Jam Session also. Those exiting Jazz days are (very sadly) long gone. I have been very fortunate to have experienced this incredible Jazz music. A huge loss for the current generation(s). YT is therefore a godsend for them to be able to access what great, inventive, passionate Jazz was/is all about. Enjoy & Cheers!
Doin a good job
Niels Henning Petersen on the basse!!! Before he signed with Oscar and Ray 😉 merci pour le partage! Vive le MJF!!
I was here !!! Time of the Giants !
eromadrol eromadrol I was also (this one was in ‘75), and again in 1977. Unbelievable experience. Those were (indeed) the greatest Jazz days. Enjoy & Cheers!
Lucky you! I was born 10 months later... 50 years too late, definitely! I still could listen to Ray Brown live though @ Marignac Festival early 2000's. But I missed the Jazz Train by 50 years, forever sorry, given the plain shite we get to hear nowadays...
Romain JACCOUD At least we’ve got those recordings/tapes Romain. I’ve been very lucky to have been able to see quite a few of these incredible Jazz-man during the 1970’s whilst living in Holland, before returning to Australia. The years from 1945 till 1985 were the best of the best fantastic Jazz. What we’ve got now is mostly mediocre, in my opinion. Good talking to you. Just Dig this great clip, Enjoy & Cheers!
Sometimes I wish I was 80 today instead of just 42... some time like this when I listen to THE CREAM OF THE CREAM! Moreover in homeland Switzerland Lac Léman Montreux!!! 🇨🇭❤
@@ronaldunkel2681 thank you for sharing your valuable experience, I just have my imagination left to figure myself in such a gig... crying out sheer auditive climax, I guess, in awe 😂😂 they were just all perfect together!! As a matter of fact, I listen to this tune everyday after work, among others, and play the piano or trumpet along 😉
TIMING ... that’s what! Whew. ..... oh.. and TALENT ..... WHOA... and TEMPO ...
re hommefriday. I saw and heard the great Basie Band on the same tour. It was in the now non existent ST Andrews hall in Glasgow. When this lot shuffled onto the platform and went into one of their head arrangements., I thought my whole body was going to dissolve. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I spoke to the bass player outside. These guys have no airs and graces , just fantastic human beings. Did not shout Henry but "Coker" ! One has to realise that Basie's real genius was in knowing the right tempo for every tune. Music dies if the tempo is not absolutely right.
Alex Amos it don’t mean a thing.............
That was fun to hear! :)
WOW!
straordinari tutti
Maravilloso!!!!!
Alvaro Ponce Faccuse.
Santiago de Chile.
Nice !!!
comme c'est bon bon bon! good good good !!
Electrifying performance by Basie & his fantastic men! I was among the crowd that went absolutely berserk. Two years later had the same effect, with the Pablo-stable of these marvellous Jazz artists. But this gig blew the top of the roof! Sweet memories of a bygone era that once was.... And vova47 is correct that this ripper concert was in 1975. Two years later was again a rippin’ Basie Jam-Session! Dig this, enjoy & Cheers!
❤❤❤❤❤
This is so sweet I feel like I must be doing something wrong it must be illegal. (lol)
Great Niels Pedersen! 😮
Insane!! Beautiful!
This is just the mother effing Best
Roy Eldridge was 66 when this was recorded and he still blows away just about anyone
Basie, Roy Eldridge, Johnny Griffin, Milt Jackson, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Louie Bellson (with both bass drums).
Utterly fabulous♡♡♡♡♡♡
Beautiful thanks
A gem!!! They all great.
WOWWW !!!!!! SUPERB IT BLOWS YOUR MIND THERE AINT NOTHING LIKE IT NOW SUPER SOLOS .
When we look at the constelation at stage it's easy to know something really big is comin'.
Louie Bellson, greatest swing drummer of them all.
Roker Paddock have to agree
Stood 4 feet away from The Count, just out of his field of view to be mannerly and respectful. Disneyland, June 1978-I think. Heard Al Green play the meanest T-bone solo ever. The set started with “Queen Bee.” What musicians these people were (are). The epitome of subtlety and kindliness in musicianship.
Impressionante
And don't forget Norman Granz ( nickname 'Smedley ) viz Clark Terry's ' Blues for Smedley '. Granz made it all happen , got the players decent conditions, serious money etc ; they loved and respected him. R.I.P. Smedley.
He lived in Switzerland. I saw this incredible gig. Went twice to TMJF in 1975-77. Will never forget those incredible (Pablo recorded it) Jazz Artists. G’day & Cheers!
Maravilha!!! Gostoso de ouvir!!
Basie, Eldridge, Griffin, Bags, NHOP, Bellson .
NHOP was essential to greatness.
As a Teenie I had the Pablo Record of this remarkable gig.
Maravilha!
Johnny Griffin on tenor sax aka "Little Giant"
George Kilroy The tenor sax looking like a baritone because of his smallish stature. But by Jesus, he could blow the feathers of the birds! Dig & Enjoy & Cheers!
Milt Jackson @ 07:35ss !!!
👏👏👏❤
🥰🥰🥰
De locura
The most famous Basie rythmegroup consist of Walter Page(b), Freddie Green(g), Jo Johns(d) and the Count himself ofcourse.
Sadly I have yet to hear a good Walter page recording. One has just got to accept contemporaries views. NHOP has benefited from his time line.
If this doesn't get your toes a tappin', then Jack, you dead!
And that fabulous bassist NilsHenning Orsted Pederson, arguably the greatest bass player ever ?
No doubt!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you Lou, but don't forget the great late Ray Brown when he was with the Oscar Peterson trio !! Cheers from France !
Gérard DEL GRANDE ‘vive l’Ray ‘✌️
He certainly was. What a strong sound, makes bassists sound anaemic.
@@gerarddelgrande And how is the Rue Pigalle these days Gerard ? the duck still good at Maxims ?
Stajnia Normana Gracza na wieki zywa

+++++!!!!!!
Roy Eldridge!!
ummm... so, the credits role show "75 and the title of the Video is '77.
which show is this actually from ? '75 or '77?
What about Milt Jackson .Man could he swing.
God, I want Milt's outfit. Those cats throw it all down here.
Great Video. It even made me to subscribe to your channel. However, i must voice my deep displeasure. Not listing the Artists by name and Instrument is 'criminal'. This is Jazz. Jazz is 'INTELLECTUAL'! Every thing must be perfect.
