Some rotors are designed with curved vanes. If you have that type there is a left and right based on the curve of the vanes. They aren't necessarily installed with the slot towards the front of the car.
Yesssss Doesn’t matter how ‘old’ it is, rust knows no age… ALWAYS take brake cleaner and a wire brush or metal whiz wheel if you have one and clean hub and caliper bracket (all mounting surfaces)
Are those Philip head impact driver to get those screw out? I read a lot of post and people said that it need a Japanese Instrument Standard (VESSEL MEGADORA IMPACTA Impact Driven Screwdriver) tool to get it out since Philip head will stripe the screws.
You left out a few steps especially always crack the the brake fluid container under hood..and about how to push back the brake caliper..other than that I liked this video
Crazy how much surface rust is on this car for being so new. My 2015 has similar surface rust and I rust proof it annually. My older Camry has no surface rust at all in these areas.
@@graystripe393 The manual impact driver with Philips bit is way better option than any JIS hand screwdriver for screws that sit in rotor for some time. He got them removed even without penetrating oil. Try this with all praised JIS screwdriver. Good luck.
Just an FYI dude... the slot on the rotor is to wipe the pad and stop "glossing" between the pad and rotor. The drilled holes are for the out-gassing and cooling.
Good question! The answer is no. The only time you have to worry about the on-board computer is when you have a "digital" or "electronic" handbrake. Also, Honda / Acura does not have any brake pad wear sensors. They aren't like the audi / bmw / benz where you have to change the sensor after the light is on. It is a simple button instead of a emergency brake lever which you pull manually.
they are there to hold the rotors during manufacturing. There's 3 ways to remove them : use a manual impact driver with a number 2 socket and punch it , use a grinder to cut it off or use a dremel with a bit to break it off.
Back then i used Max Rotors but after few used, i discovered they really suck ,they don't last long at all. I do not recommend. They look great for the first month.
Thank you for this video. I have never changed brakes or rotors and after watching your video I did it so easy on my 8thgen Si coupe :)
What was the worst part? I just ordered these same brakes also, I know I'm gonna need that impact wrench?...
thank you for your kind words
I had to change out a wheel stud on this car. Rust everywhere….took a while. Tough job.

Definitely! Thanks for the info!
The vents should face the rear of the vehicle
It's always good to clean the rust on the hub and the brackets before installing the new parts.
The car isn’t that old , that’s why I didn’t bother but yes, I agree with you
@@MTLJack it has a lot of rust for being a modern car.
@@randalfuentes6953 Hondas always suffer from premature rust and rust faster than most other model vehicles, don't know why.

Thanks for the video! But one thing, you never showed how to install the new hardware on the calipers.
Sorry about that

Im from Canada and its called Manual Impact tool (its on amazon too). It comes with 2 sizes of philip heads and 2 sizes of flat head. Thanks

Hello! my rotors are stuck in place because of rust, I am wondering if what is the size of screws that you used to push the rotors off. Thanks!
12mm
or just use a 5lbs sledge hammer and hammer the rotor out.
You should use impact rated sockets. Standard sockets can disintegrate
hey bud! i have upgraded my tools ever since :)
12mm bolt whats the thread count m6?
U did not mention how many FT ILbs of force to tighten the bolts . Kindly mention that
dilshah, on the 17 mm bolts - 80 lb/ft.
On the 12 mm bolts - 24 lb/ft.

You make it look so easy man
nah man , i still have much to learn!
You need a #3 Japanese Standard screw driver, for those brake rotor screws.
I simply use #1 philip with impact driver.
They are JIS screws and get stripped very easily by using Phillips screwdriver. Every screw you think is a Phillips on a honda is indeed a JIS.

No problem!
The rear brakes on my 2014 civic lx don't have any visible calipers. I replaces the forward brakes and rotors just fine
You have drums on the civic LX most likely!
You have drum brakes for the rear
Thank you! And wish me luck
Good luck ! hope it went ok!
will the 10th gen si rotor fit the 8th gen si?
0:58 Jack stand should be to secure car. never work on car just on jack. and calipers hang using bungee cords
Do you have to worry about the on board computer on the rear rotors replacement

Can you please share the link from you bought those rotors??
got them form Max brakes (canada). Otherwise, its everywhere on ebay.
What rotors did you use?
Back then i used Max Rotors but after few used, i discovered they really suck ,they don't last long at all. I do not recommend. They look great for the first month.
Thanks bro I gotta do my wife’s car next week!
Good luck buddy!!
Can you please tell me the brand of impact screwdriver you used?
Dewalt its like 200 without battery
impact screw driver, i used Mastercraft maximum but its all the same, you can find one easily on amazon
Does this all apply for a 1999 civic ?
should be even more easier :)
How is the braking performance??
Good question. You don't really get extra performances. Its purely esthetic.
How much did you spend on big brakes and rotors?
The whole front was barely 100$.
Thank you for sharing

Master cylinder cover off or on?
I realized for Honda, you have to remove the master cylinder (brake fluid) cap off most of the time because the reservoir is very tiny.
Thank you for the reply on the Honda Master cylinder brake fluid cap. Your video was well made and appreciated.
Any link for the pads and rotors?
Where are you located?
You forgot to grease your caliber slide pins
Wow those pads were too tight. Sometimes you have to file down the ears of the pads so they slide more freely.
You don’t have to drain the brake fluid??
No because you are not flushing the brake fluids nor changing the calipers.
What if you dont have the 2 clips on 5:30
Skip it. Civic 8th Gen does not have it
At what price range does Rotors go for ?
For Honda civics, around 100$ CAD with rotors and brake pads.
8:54 pretty sure your using that wrong
Yea I apologize, I was surprised I didn't use any effort to spin the caliper lol!
@@PalmiyeCleaningServices no. They turn in
I’ve never had to use a hammer to get the pads out.
You put your front rotors on the wrong sides 😂
not very comprehensive vid...lots of skipped steps, 'the devil is in the details'.
Do you have a link for the replacement brake rotors and pads you installed?
I got them from rockauto
@@MTLJack thank you so much!!
