I have been working on cars since my grandfather could beat the concept in my head, so I’ve changed countless pairs of pads. That being said, never have I used these silicones or anti seizes for brakes. Last night I changed my friend’s Civic’s pads as a kind gesture, and utilizing these lubricants made such a world of difference in installation alone! Never too late to learn something new! Thanks for the video and insight!
You don't have to use silicone or any other paste for the sliding pins. It depends where you live. In dusty countries that silicone will gum up with dust in time and actually slow down your caliper in engaging/retreating after you press/release the brake. You can see the dirty pins in this video too. Just clean them thoroughly if you live in such place.
Not only is your video easy to follow, you also gave us the torque specs in the description. Often times people post videos but some of us don't know the torque specs or are not aware that something like brake line bolt could have a torque spec. So thank you so much for that :)
Used this video yesterday for my first(ever)brake pad replacement on my 2015 Civic LX. Well thought out and clear directions. Made the job significantly stress free and fun. Thank you-looking forward to doing the rear pads in the Fall.
Thank you, you save me more than $500 dollars. I took my car to honda dealership today for oil change and was told I need to replace my front brakes $380 and brakes fluid $165.
Have to replace the starter on my fit, decided to do it my self. Since I’ll save by not taking it to a mechanic. Decided to change the break pads too. Thank you for your video 🙌🏼
Just did my first front pads replacement, everything went almost as smoothly as it did in this video - which I couldn’t have done the job without. Thanks, MrRanger, next beers on me bro!!
Very good video. Very clear & the best part is that the camera is not moving all the place like most other videos. You just helped a lot of people to save $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Very helpful video-well done-thanks for including torque specs and links to parts. Wife just got estimate of $350 pads only replacement . Been awhile since I bothered wrenching. Thinking it’s time she gives it a try-we can work together.
Nice little video, but i would suggest everytime you replace the brake pads to go ahead and replace the hardware also. It will keep new brakes from squealing. Most of the better quality brakes you buy come with them anyway.
You did that Great man, Good Job makes me want to record my Brake Job. I have a 09 Kia Spectra EX 74K Miles currently. and nobody has done a deep brake system change on this car, i might just do that.
Thank you for answering why my brakes are squeaking after new rotors and pads. I forgot to put anti-seize on the slider plates - so I’m guessing the pads are not releasing from the rotor causing constant contact and subsequent noise.
Hi, maybe you can watch my video! Open up a new idea! Here's a video of me replacing a brake pedal on a Honda with a brand of diagnostic equipment: ruclips.net/video/Ohc8rJwCe8c/видео.html . You can take a look, it might help you. There are more videos on my homepage, welcome to watch and follow
Excellent video. I like your style. My only question is why you decided not to turn rotors? I was always told to turn rotors every time you change pads for better braking and a clean mating surface for new brake pad material. Your video is excellent. Thanks for your time
I talked to a Honda technician in Oklahoma recently and he said they do not replace the rotors unless there is an obvious problem with them like grooves. So I am going with that. This is only my 2c.
Love the silent movie w birds chirping! Did I miss seeing the actual pads? I don’t know what I’m looking at either - first brake job I’ve ever seen I changed cabin and engin air filters myself this week. First time. Piece of cake. Other than oil change, what are the essentials to keep car in shape. I’ve never done much more than oil and timing belts, occasional fluids, brakes when needed, on 5 cars now. They all last at least 140-180k, then I sell and buy another.
Pads are shown around the 1:45 time mark. Just keep up the regular servicing, nothing more needed honestly. Don't ever listen to dealerships and replace what you really need and you're set.
MrRangerZr1 whAt constitutes regular servicing? I have done the ‘X miles recommended check’ Once or maybe twice per car but not every so many miles that dealership to tell you to do it. Are you suggesting I should be doing that when I say do it at 30,000 miles 75,000 miles 100,000 miles etc.?
so on my 2012 civic si 4 door i didn't pay attention to the guide pins and noticed when i was cleaning that the one had a rubber bushing on the end.... i was like uh oh... and then started researching videos to find out what goes where.... and or just to find answers... and i got both some people saying bottom some saying top... some saying it depends on the car.... i see your video and you pull the rubber one from the bottom.... well on my car i chose to check the driver side and see where the rubber bushing pin was and on my 2012 civic si 4 door the rubber bushing was on the top on the driver side... but seeing your video and other peoples videos and reading forums.... im wondering was mine wrong does it need to be on the bottom.... i also saw on 2 videos doing this same job where they removed the rubber bushing from the top.... and then when they reinstalled the rubber bushing pin they reinstalled it into the bottom..... so this as just all been confusing im not sure if for a 2012 honda civic si 4 door front brakes does that rubber tip guide pin go into the top or bottom hole?
nice video but did you install the same brake pads that you took off?? one pad looked thinner than the other one... after saving a lot of money by doing the brake job yourself isn't it a good idea to install brand new brake pads??

Good vid ................ right to work without telling everyone the history of brakes. Good camera work, thanks for sharing. Parts list was a plus!
Excellent video! I'm almost at 70k on my 2015 and i am now starting to hear my brakes squeak. I'm looking forward to replacing my pads thanks to you.
Moral of the story: Never pay a shop $350 bucks for a brake job.
or even $1150.
Kevbox2008 Pepboys tried to charge me 210$ for the front brake pads changing and told me it could be done within 30 minutes . I think they are insane.
Learn how to do this and offer the service to family members and friends for a small fee :)

Thanks a lot for this video man! I finally changed my own brake pads and rotors on my 2015 Honda civic thanks to your video. Cheers!
AWESOME video. Used it today, felt like a man! Never paying for a brake change again.
500% what i needed. thanks so much for the video and not talking through it. Also your 1200 BC shoes at the end almost made me choke.

Great video. Just did my breaks for the first time and it was seemless! Very appreciative sir!

Really useful video, straight to the point , ty sir 💪🏽 jiffy lube will no longer be getting me for my cash anymore
Solid job and doing it right! Good stuff.
I just ordered the piston compression tool. Way better than using a c clamp.
Great video. One suggestion though - try using cutips for applying the grease and such.
The best video I’ve seen. I will have your video playing next to me tomorrow morning doing brakes for the first time. 👍🏼💪🏼
How did everything go?
I’m hitting the shop first thing to get brake lube and anti seize (northeast) to give it a shot
Probably the best DIY video I've seen on RUclips. 👍👍👍
Super easy to follow for a complete beginner like me. Thanks for the vid bro
Thank you for this cause my brakes started to make noise yesterday so I'm sure its time for a change. Keep up the great work!

$1000. Sheeeeesh that’s heavy
Who the hell would charge you $1k to do front brakes? Even dealers don't charge that much.
Lee St.louis trust me its possible
Reaching even the expensive f-150s we don’t charge that much at dealerships
You are doing good job. The other guy throw the pins away and also not pit the plate on the inner pads.
Thanks bro, just changed the brakes
Great video! Great editing to only show what needs to be seen. Appreciate your posting this very much. Thanks MrRangerZr1!

6:05 What are you doing here? What is the purpose? Thanks. Great vid.
Todd S. Compressing the caliper to fit the new pads in :)
Why did you do that in 5:59-6:15?
To compress the pistons so the new pads would install
MrRangerZr1 thank you!
@@MrRangerZr1 is it highly detrimental if I skipped this step? I can't figure where to buy this tool you've used or its name.

why brand new, why not resurface them?
