I think the scale is perfect. They were able to include all of the unique details and characteristics of the vehicle from all three movies, and don't really seem to have sacrificed anything due to it's smaller size. Even if they did increase the scale, I can't imagine how much more they could truly add to it, and it would likely just end up being a lot of wasted space on the vehicle itself. Plus in reality, the DeLorean itself was not a big vehicle, it had a compact sports design that was common in that era of sports cars.
The Delorean sits absolutely perfectly next to my Creator Expert cars: the Aston Martin DB5, Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari F40 and Ford Mustang GT, in fact the Delorean is almost EXACTLY the same length as the latter. And everyone knows that Creator Expert scale is the best scale :)
The Delorean in real life is somewhat small, so if you're someone who thinks that the Lego set is also kinda small, I don't blame you. Personally I think the set is a great size.
Original specs: The Ecto-1 is epic in size, spanning 21 feet long. The Delorean is 13 feet long. The versions by Lego: Ecto-1 lenght: 19 inch Delorean lenght: 14 inch
@@TeaGamingPanda yeah I’m lucky to have a huge empty room in my basement (electric/heater stuff)which I have filled with shelves and really nice display and built tables. That said, I’m still running out of room lol
For the movie cars, the Aston Martin & Ecto-1 are about 13.5:1, the DeLorean is 12.2:1. To scale with the first 2 the DMC should be shorter. I think it has a great look though. 1989 Batmobile is massively oversized at 9.7:1
I think the size fits very well. All necessary details are included and it takes not too much space on the display shelf. I am located in Germany and I have ordered my DeLorean today in the early morning hours. And now it's already sold out in the Lego online shop here.
It's not a bad scale size IMO but I feel like they dropped the ball BIGTIME with the gull wing doors Not staying up when you open them for display purposes 🤦♂️
If you look up the lengths of the real cars, the T1 camper van and DeLorean are almost identical, the DB5 is about 30cm longer - it seems the scale isn't too far out. I would have loved something larger, but I think this is still pretty good. Still a day 1 purchase :)
I love this scale. It's big without being unwieldy. I hope they do make a smaller Minifig scale version so I can put it alongside my '66 Batmobile, Mystery Machine and Ecto-1.
The Batmobile is huge because Batman needs places for all that additional bat-gear. Ecto-1 is big because the ghostbusters need that extra room for their proton packs, traps and other ghostbusting equipment. The DeLorean Time Machine is the right size for the only thing it needs to do: travel through time :-)
@@antoningavrel2808 with the actual delorean measuring in at a length of 168inches and the lego delorean measuring in at 14inches so it is actually exactly 1:12

Actually the Delorean Set and the Ecto-1 are pretty much the same scale. Ecto-1 is 637.54 cm long in Reallife and the Delorean is 426.72 cm long (The Back to the Future Version is a little longer, cuz of the "exhausts"). So the Ecto-1 is 1,3 (Movie) - 1,5 (Normal) times longer than the Delorean in Reallife which pretty much is the same in the lego models (47cm Ecto-1 and 35cm Delorean). I think they did an awesome job with both cars.
When i heard rumors of the Time Machine, I always assumed it would be on par with the awesome ECTO-1. I still think it looks nice, but I am disappointed with the scale
Thanks for this video! I really wanted to see the scale comparison to other vehicles and this certainly is timely and on point. I agree that the scale is fine as is and you used excellent choices for comparison! 👍 I'm going to buy this set.
Just recently rewatched the first back to the future film, and I realized the Kombi that appears there looks the same one as the Lego t2 camper van. No I do not know if this was coincidence or planned before releasing the DeLorean set. So I find the scale with the camper van and the DeLorean making sense. I do not think it would make sense for the DeLorean scale to be on par with the ECTO-1 as hearses are quite long. So I am glad it is slightly bigger than the Db5. Makes it easier to display whenever I buy it later in the future. Does go well with the Db5.
Oh and i think the size is ok. The problem with the big sets is, where shall i place it. I got the UCS AT-AT and am scared to build it i really want to build it so bad, but where shall i place it. 😉
I feel your comparison is an error. More comparable build would’ve been the Porsche Targa or the 65 mustang. As they are similar in price point and dimensions. I do love the detail of the DeLorean but think that it is a few inches too small. but of course I will still be purchasing it.
The size keeps the price reasonable for what would otherwise be a lot of grey. If not this scale then minifig scale plz like my lovely baby tumbler and Adam West Batmobil.
I think it is a little to small. I would have liked it another 2 inches longer. I believe the details would have stood out better. But to each their own. I’m not trying to put it in a city or something like that. Each of my builds must stand on their own and a little bit bigger scale would be better for me.
The DeLorean looks a bit too small compared to other LEGO sets but consider also the extra pieces included to build the two other versions. Inflation sucks...
I needed this 37 years ago.. and I still need it. I have ridden in a real DeLorean.. it was not huge. I ALSO saw one of the ‘89 Batmobiles touring auto shows in 1989, or 1990, and IT was also not huge. So a bigger DeLorean here.. are we talking scale.. or cost/parts count? Because the proportion looks good to me.
Delorean in real life is 8ft wide 14ft long and 5.5ft high. Christopher Lloyd is 6'2 and is level with the open door height. Ecto 1 is almost 20ft long and 5'8 high. to roof. about clavicle height to Dan Aykroyd who is 5'11. the camper is about the right size too.
I really appreciate this size. Display space is limited in my home yet the detail of the Delorean is captured really well especially compared to the smaller old model which looks kind of ugly in comparison.
Thankfully there are several incredible MOCs out there for a minifig scale DeLorean by many talented master builders. JerryBuildsBricks did one that's more in scale with the Speed Champions cars and has even done several Batmobile builds and the car from Knight Rider. Go check out his channel and maybe have a go building your own using his step-by-step instruction videos. He's awesome.
Only thing I wish lego would have given us with this back to the future time machine set is i wish they gave us a set of train wheels for it as well so we could get the look of it when its on the train track in the movie obviously i would not want them to be Lego train wheels that would be stupid I I just think a set of wheels that gave the look ot has in the movie when its on the train track.🙂👍✌
I’m honestly shocked by how many people think the size is on point. I think they have missed the ball with this totally. Whilst it looks great, the thing is half the size of the batmobile. It’s nearly half the size of ecto1 but almost the same price. £150 is shocking for this. I would have paid more for a bigger version of this. It looks like a child’s set, not a premium set we’ve all been waiting for. I’m very disappointed. Gutted in fact. I’ll not be buying that at all for £150. It will look stupid next to my ecto1 and batmobile. It will look like one of the kids has stuck their little build next to my display pieces.
YES. It's far to small. It should have been the same size as the Eaglemoss DeLorean or at least the Lego 89 Batmobile. I was really looking forward to buying this but after seeing it I will give it a miss. Please give us a UCS DeLorean in the future.
Yes it is to small. Finally someone seeing that. It should be 1/2 larger then this. It is DELOREAN. Doors are terrible. Missing so much more details. The size of the DeLorean is perfect for its size, since they included details from all three movies. It's prefect just the way it is.

My only complaint about the Delorean is it doesn't include enough pieces to build all 3 setups as they're built in the book
I think it is in perfect size. Not too bulky and it is easy to put it on the shelf.
i think its a perfect size tbh not to big not to small and who knows? maybe they will make a bigger set in the future
It is basically to scale. A DeLorean (168 in) is a much smaller car than Ecto-1 (251 in) or the 1989 Batmobile (260 in).
I can't wait for the DeLorean to come in the mail. Luckily I bought it before it sold out online. Great video 👍.

Yes. If it had been made a third bigger they could have perhaps used other parts to round the angles off better.
