  • Ken & Matt race Tom & Brian over the new Richmond Bridge bike path from Point Richmond to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal during morning traffic. Ken & Matt are on their trusty Specialized Vado eBikes while Tom & Brian are, well, stuck in traffic. See who wins!

That was so fun to watch! I grew up in San Rafael and have ridden since I was 18 shortly before moving to Canada. I'm 68 and just got a Gazelle Cityzen so I can go farther and not have to take hills into account. But LOVED watching you guys ride through all my old stomping grounds! Thanks!! You described one of the big differences between riding and driving - riding you arrive happy and exhilarated! RIDE ON guys!!

What's the posted speed limit on the bike path?

Small part of my commute. E-bikes would make it easier.

First--I enjoyed the video even though I knew the outcome (wasn't the video made to drive home a point?).
I took advantage of using the URL to check out the eBikes only to learn that these are $3,000-$5,500 bikes!. Most of us have to get by with our old Schwinns.
I also have to wonder how a regular rider might fare with the lengthy uphill slopes on the bridge if they had to get by only with the power of their legs instead of the electric motor assist.
Still, looked like a fun ride (for the bikers--NOT the riders in the car).

It's actually not that bad of a ride on a traditional road bike. The "climbs" are only about 3-4%.

What time and which day of the week was this?

We left Pt Richmond about 8:30 am this past Monday. The backup to the toll plaza was pretty light, it didn't really slow down until you could see it. So the outcome would have been way more on favor of the bike on a more normal traffic day.

Drove across the R.S.R.Bridge @ 9:30 am this morning - Dec. 24th.... NOT One Bicycle ! What A Complete Waste of Usable Space that could Facilitate the Ease of Travel for Cars Traveling in that Lane during Commuter Traffic. 2020 is One Week Away... Wake Up People - the # of Cars Outweigh the # of Bikes Using that Valuable Space !

Well according to a popular ride recording website, the westbound direction has been ridden almost 2000 times and that's just from the site's users. And you're aware that there are only 2 lanes once you exit the bridge. So between the toll plaza and the two lanes at the exit, a third lane of traffic won't do much.
