The backhand volley has more of a downward swing than the forehand. In many respects, the forehand volley swing is like trying to push a bunch of books off of a table. The backhand volley is closer to a backhand slice from the baseline.
Notice how still his head is upon contact, so so perfect, And yeah he isn't really being pushed to hit uncomfortable volley's so his foot work can be a little lazy here
u slice to put spin. It is really hard to do, u gotta have right timing. once u perfected the basic volley go for touch.. then after u mastered that put slice.
Maybe he's warming up and not doing the usual stuff (stepping in to the volley), but in any case, this seems like a poor video to demonstrate proper volley technique.
it's true.Nadal plays with more committment, they can't take it that federer isn't what he used to be.heck, even i was like that until several months ago.
Fed's footwork is different is almost every shot here. He's not really practising volleying as such, more like just warming up. Learn how to move your feet in volleying from other video's or from a coach.
What has happened to Fed lately??? I cannot believe Murray has his number!! He would have killed Murray a few years ago!! Fed may not break Pete's record for slams and that would be very sad for Roger. He should be playing more attacking tennis like he used to. Perhaps his age, 28 this summer, has finally kicked in. Tough to watch him lose when he should win!! Nice video here, Fuzzy!!
Well, thats weird? I cant remember seing any pro hitting a controlled volley without opening their racket-face slightly to put some under spin on the ball. Like Federer often puts huge amounts of under spin on his forehand volley so that it hardly bounce at all. And if you have to hit a low volley you HAVE to open the racket, and thereby producing under spin.........
No, you're not supposed to slice volleys, you supposed to try and put no spin on them. But Federer does what Federer does... It won't work out the same if you try it. There's only one Federer.

Really great stuff. More please!

It is important to notice that he's just practicing at mid speed as he will hit differently mid-game
which grip does federer use for forehand volley? is it eastern forehand?
continental grip is the best way to volly
i would like to see him practice and play with more intensity
You slice the volley so that you keep the ball low and in the court.
They post a warm up vid because u can't get as close up while he's playing a match

@Pdr00000000 If you have time to set up this is the way, but it changes in a match
