I don't think Alicent ever wanted the throne, nor did she wanted to be queen. She was pressured, even forced to take this path by her father who saw this as an opportunity to rise up.
Alicent obviously wants to mend their relationship but Rhaenyra has a right to be angry, after all, her best friend married her dad. At the same time, Rhaenyra should understand Alicent's position being the heir to the throne herself. Their relationship going forward will be interesting and tragic, to say the least, especially after the last episode where Rhaenyra indirectly showed everyone that she is not to be underestimated.
Then why the power play? Just in the scene before this when Alicent asks the bard to leave, Rhaenyra tells him so stay as the princess, but then Alicent says the Queen is asking him to leave. Pushing a wedge between them is a weird way to try and mend their relationship.

She was even the one trying to help fix Viserys and Rhaenyra's relationship instead of furthering their divide. And yes, she's anxious as evidenced in her nail biting and picking to the point of bleeding
I was so happy to see a weirwood heart tree in the Red Keep in this series. Until I realised that that pious fool of a king, Baelor, probably had it cut down because it was a pagan symbol of the Old Gods.

Almost three years on from their falling out, Alicent is still trying to be nice to Rhaenyra and defend her to others. Rhaenyra is having none of it. It's not hard to see how pretty soon Alicent may stop trying.

For the people who don’t know what’s going on: They were ones, best friends, and till Rhaenerya (the blonde one) mother died and then her best friend married her dad (the red head) and that’s when their friendship broke The redhead tried to get her friend back but Rhaenerya was really mad and she had rights And I guess after a little bit Rhaenerya got the red head aka alicent dad fired, so they started to have beef and Rhaenerya moved to dragon stone which I don’t even know I’m pretty sure it was away from the castle, though and then they met after years and their was a chance of peace but there kids were not having it so they left and Rhaenerya’s father died and she was the heir to the throne but they disrespected the late king and made alicent’s son king instead of Rhaenerya after that Rhaenerya crowned her self then alicent tried to make peace again but that didn’t work out so they were planing on having war for the throne so then she sent her kids to go get Support of some other houses then her Half brother killed her son and it ended By the way, I didn’t even watch it. I just learned this all from RUclips so you don’t need to spend money to watch TV shows Hope it helps took me 30 minutes
Rhaenyra of all people should know the pressures and limitations of being a woman and the little choices they have, especially in marriage. Alicent also should've explained her side of things. It is an awkward situation but they could've made the best of it.

This scene, I feel, highlights Rhaenyra's stubborn nature, her arrogance, and her unwillingness to meet anyone in the middle unless it's on HER terms. I understand that she's hurt that Alicent "Betrayed" her, but she hasn't grasped, nor will she ever, that Alicent doesn't have as much agency as her. Alicent is only a lady of a noble house, not the heir of a King.
No it was the fact that visery’s had a better choice in laena but chose rhaenerya’s best friend and visery’s knew that and the moment he dropped that bomb on her without warning her forehead you can see the absolute betrayal in rhaenerya’s eyes and the moment viserys tried to talk to her with the council present she didn’t was to betrayed and left in a hurry. That relationship was never going to be the same viserys broke it.
Alicent also needed to accept that by going along with her father’s plan, that was a kind of choice on its own. Marrying her friend’s father was going to change everything, especially so soon after the death of Rhaenyra’s mother. There was no taking it back, regardless of her personal intentions.
Alicent didn't have a choice; her father forced her to marry her friends father for politics. If Alicent actually had a choice she would of told Otto to f*ck off.

she's a good one. unfortunately... her father poisoned her head and her kids, telling them that Rhaenyra thinks of them as threat and will kill them all once the throne become hers. Its why she's desperate to keep the throne for her kids. Why any attempt to reconcile later on, she blocked. Why she raised her children with hatred towards Rhaenyra's kids. She's scared for her and her children's life. Imagine living your life scared everyday. Its just like how Otto poisoned Viserys head that Daemon is not a good enough heir despite being his brother.

She's just relaying what the king said. A guard or a maid could say the same thing and Rhaenerya can't refuse. Alicent probably wanted to tell her herself because she's still trying to repair her former friendship. Rhaenerya is just being petty and taking her problems out on Alicent.
