How To Land A Pietenpol - Tango Gets Back to Basics | Flight Vlog
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 ноя 2020
- Tango does a solo practice flight to brush up landings, slow flight, stalls and steep turns in the Pietenpol (is it REALLY a Pietenpol? Watch to find out!). This is a "deep dive" ride along for all of you avgeeks who love engine noise!
Support the channel! We have a new line of FUNNY Aviation T-Shirts made just for pilots: teespring.com/...
"it cheated death once again." In hindsight that is pretty chilling. Damn, RIP.
This guy is dead?
@@markwinchester3005 yes
yes, being a pilot is like being a Buddhist, "life is like a bubble, and can burst at any moment."
Me again, got tired of watching the Olympics , from France and just happened to land on your channel. Love a relaxing flight even as a passenger. Thanks for the trip; makes me want an aircraft like that.
Sure hope these videos are never taken down. One of the best RUclips series ever. So sad that they are no longer with us.
What happened? New sub here.
Just looked it up, apparently they died in a Cessna 140 crash about 2 years ago. :(@@RobertHouston-sf5fh
They were in a fatal accident in a Cessna 140
@@sblack48 damn, I'm so sorry.
RIP. Lots of love to your respective families.
Thanks, Tango & Juliet
Excellent explanation of conditions and decisions
Blue Skies Tim...
Love the post landing checklist! Great video!
They were always so happy flying it inspired me so much RIP so sad
Im still learning from his vids still enjoying what they left us thank you
I fly a pietenpol. I’m not part of the piet building community. I’ve had some interactions with piet guys at Oshkosh. I’m not a builder. I just want to fly and the piet satisfies the itch without breaking the bank. The building community are salt of the earth types. They take themselves pretty serious.
Great video! Very informative for those of us looking at getting a Pietenpol. The only thing that could make it better is if you had a chest camera to watch the instrument panel.
Nice idea! Never thought of that...something to add for future fly-alongs.
Been down with a cold for the last week - so this is the closest I've been flying. Thank you - great video!
Glad we could help with your flying fix! Hope you’re up in the air again soon.
Sensible not to get up there with a cold or any respiratory complaint.
thank you for the flight, been many years since I did that; likely 50+. Nice little aircraft. Thanks again.
Nice video. Watching it makes me realize how much I like flying. Kitfox 4 with 912 and Avid Flyer with Jabiru currently, and apparently not often enough. Cause watching your video I was thinking, I've got to go flying soon. Jim
Mesmerizing. Nice narrative. I don’t mind that it’s not a pure Pietenpol.
Awesome Tim. Too cold and windy in the Antelope Valley to fly today. Thanks for letting e (us) tag along! Cheers, KTOWN
We were so bummed we couldn’t hang with you and the Princess this weekend!!!
@@TangoandJuliet Same here! ☹️
This is an awesome video. Really enjoyed it. I've always wondered how you see around the nose on one of those, especially the ones with the original engine and massive radiator right in the line of sight.
I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for posting it. I am considering building a Pietenpol. I have a lot of things in my universe pointing me in this direction, least of which is a local guy that says he will give me the tail feather kit to build if I chose to go this direction. (He is also in the middle of building his.) A building buddy is also a HUGE plus. Anyway, I enjoyed this one and the one where you met up with your parents and gave that girl a ride. Keep them coming!
Thanks Dave! Best of luck as you embark on your build. Having a community of fellow builders is an important asset to have. If you haven’t already, find the Pietenpol group on Facebook which is a very active source of good information and resources.
@@TangoandJuliet , yup, I found them a few months back.
Just watched this again. The one I hope to buy will undergo its condition inspection this coming Tuesday. Information about the landing of this aircraft is very valuable. Thanks for posting this.
They are not going to reply.
Cool. I was in the same EAA chapter as John Grega! He was a interesting person!
A rose by any other name or so the saying goes. Is it really as much fun to fly as they appear to be? Have lunch and watch airplanes? If you can't fly that sounds like a pleasant pass time. Always making sure youhave somewhere to put her down in the event of an engine failure just like any good pilot should. Nice to see you keeping the skills sharp. For the age of the design I'm amazed at how little into turn rudder is needed in those steep turns. That's not even a proper stall break is it? It just travels downhill in a nose high attitude.
I can't like this one hard enough! Great work. I am defiantly in the "nerdy-airplane" file. I am in the middle of a Piet restoration and I have no Pietenpol time. Any insights on the flying stuff is motivating and interesting. I would love to see a "cockpit view" during patterns if there is room for a camera.
As always nice work with the edits and the music. I look forward to more Piet (Grega) content. Sorry to hear about your trip.
Nice! Glad it provides motivation to get that project finished...flying something you have worked on for so long is an immense reward. We will work on a “cockpit view”; may be possible to rig a GoPro under the wing facing forward.
Nice video
Thank you
Great video Tango!
Thanks! How’s the Hatz coming along?
@@TangoandJuliet closer and closer. Finishing up a pile of little details on the fuselage. Thing is, I get done with a long list of things to do, then another long list appears! The life of a home builder. 👍🏻
I am sorry to hear that he is no longer with us. I liked his style and the plane, was going to subscribe too. RIP.
This has been very helpful. Thanks for the tips.
Next week: avoiding vapor lock
Excellent, that was good
Thanks Ron!
Sweeeeeet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAAAW I love this flying 😍👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Looks pretty fun flying. I wouldn’t mind building one when I have enough money for it. Lol
I propose AirBags for light aircraft. Hitting the ground at 120mph is about the same as two cars colliding at 60mph head on. Lives have been saved.
Excellent video
My dad had a 1946 Taylorcraft BC 12 D in the 60s.....He said it had a great wing for lift.
Sweeeeter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)
Always dig it
Nice plane, thanks
Awesome
Great video , up this morning in my Piet taking advantage of this unusually warm weather for November. What pitch is your prop?
Prop is a 74x42 made by Ed Sterba!
I am building a Grega and some discussion has come up about the length of the center wing struts. Some are saying the the measurements on the plans are wrong. My forward struts are 21”and the rear are 21 3/4”. Can you tell me what the lengths are on yours! Your help would be greatly appreciated!
I believe that the struts are supposed to be equal lengths...we will have to check ours!!! Great question
like a true Piet getting into the front seat is a challenge ....
😂 indeed!
After that greaser landing my previous comment may or may not be confirmed.
Hi how many hours for this build? Is it similar to a Fisher Flying Product Airplane construction ?
We bought this one as a mostly completed project so we can’t speak to the build time from scratch. It is definitely a “slow build” for most as you fabricate everything from raw materials. But that also makes it a really rewarding (and affordable) project!
I really love this
Can I make one?
He seems like a safe pilot wonder what happend. I know density Altitude is suspected by others how could that have been overlooked. Wonder if they would have been safer in the Pietenpol then the 140.
Agreed. My speculation: There is a history with this pilot (according to youtube) of late afternoon cross country flights where the arrival time is in twilight. Based on the details of the preliminary report I suspect the arrival time was too long after sunset, and in the unpopulated area perhaps the pilot lost the horizon and became spatially disoriented during the base to final, perhaps some wind shear or gusty conditions could have contributed.
Nice plane! Is it me or is the wing covering pulling away from the wing? Thanks!
Sometimes the camera exaggerates it; the fabric will “plump up” a bit during flight! This is normal on a lot of ragging airplanes.
@@TangoandJuliet That is why there is rob stitching on the wings. The top surface will show it because of the vacuum causing lift!
Rib stitch.
I realize it's a high wing with no canopy, but almost thought your name was Peter Griffin, it sounded as if you were farting in the mic on occasion.
Wow I wanted to watch this but I was afraid to turn it on. I feel so bad for them I don't know if I can do this I'll try. Rest in peace.
just bought a Piet.... need lessons in it now... NH69
Congrats! If you can't find a CFI with Piet experience, get a checkout in a J3 Cub which will have similar flight characteristics.
nice video and audio
Thanks Tim!
Great video! Love the info although I’m not a pilot so some of it was over my head. As far as the forward visibility while taxiing; I read where a pietenpol builder put a backup camera from a car in the cowling with good success. What are your thoughts on that?
I think that’s a great idea!
Dummy killed his wife.
What a horrible thing to say
@@Noory_flies he did.
