Many people have moaned that the new Supra being based on the Z4 but if the EU version (which receives the same 340hp version B58 as the Supra) lapped the Nordschliefe quicker than a fixed roof M2 with 30hp more (non Competition), surely it goes to show how far the Z4 has progressed over each generation?
Joe Achilles against my M3 its a completely different car obviously but as you say in the video, for what this car is going to be used for it definitely seems the right choice having the 30i
This is a great looking car, although I reckon it looks a million times better in standard Sport trim rather than M Sport. Less fussy and much more elegant.
I’d buy this car over the supra, I like the lightweight soft op that they went for and the car isn’t masquerading as something else. Just is what it is.
It's a nice car, but I absolutely don't like that BMW has to put black piano parts into the dash although you didn't choose the piano black trim panels. 4:03 Same for the new G20 3 series.
Looking forward to your impressions on the A90 Supra Joe! Would be also cool to see a video of you driving the upcoming Morgan Plus Six which will get the B58 too 👌
Joe Achilles it’s certainly up there, happy with the experience of it on the road so far, could do with a few more hours though! I like the fact most people will hate it too so it’s something that will be slightly different and not as common as my dear 140! 😂
They should try and get behind the wheel of a U.S. version with 47 more horsepower - they are starting to trickle out now. This car did do the ring faster than the previous M2 - 7:55.
Beautiful car! Saw the concept car in Monterey when it was introduced. Do yourself a favor and drive the 718 Boxster / Boxster S as a comparison. Picked up a CPO 2017 718 Cayman S in January and the handling is unmatched. Makes M handling look silly. Lots of fun in the manual as well. OBTW, Becky’s flexibility is impressive!
@Gas Pedal Subscribe First, thats the point of a small sports car. If you want to feel like you are driving a yacht, then you are looking at the wrong car. Second, I'll indulge you on speed. Lets look at Nurburgring lap times: Cayman GTS- 7:40 Cayman S- 7:42 M3- 7:50 How about 0-60/quarter mile: Cayman S- 3.6s/12s M3/4- 3.8/12s Base price: Cayman S- $69.5k, M3- $66.5k. A difference not worth mentioning. How about we stick to facts.
Joe, will you be testing the new Morgan Plus Six? It has the same drivetrain but only weighs 1075 kilos, so, should be fun ... but the price starts at £78,000.00+.
The US measurement is different, 0-60 vs. 0-62 and the US measure from a crawl not from a braked start. All are lower in the US vs the EU measurement standard. 🤓
U hate heavy steering feel. But u said u can have comfort steering in sport mode if u just change it in the settings but u can't be bothered. Not giving the car a decent chance are u? If I was test drive this id be setting it up how I like it. Not driving it how I don't.
Nice car Joe 👍🏻 I sat in 1 of these recently in the BMW garage & thought I bet there nice to drive.. on another note I still haven't set the steering up on my M140i either which I must do as it does feel heavy in Sport 👍🏻
@JoeAchilles what's your opinion of the M240i convertable? I'm interested in buying one but can't make my mind up between this and the coupe, need some advice. Great videos as always! :)
I had an original Z4 3.0, still my favourite car I've owned despite it being rubbish in many ways. I quite like the looks of this model but the prices are getting silly.
In the beginning i did not like the front end but it's starting to grow on me. I wish BMW would make new Z8 and faster than Audi R8 V10...that would be better than 8 series. They deserve to have a supercar.
I've always liked the z4 (except the early years) especially with the n54 engine in the 35is. If i had the money thats the one i would have and then tune/modify the crap out of it. =)
@@AsmirSut Boy just do some research yourself and not just on the internet. Since I am actually in the market for an E89 and had the sdrive35i in consideration I went to the trouble off speaking to a couple off very well known BMW specialist / tuning companies and they confirmed the N54 are notorious for the problems mentioned and you'd be lucky to get more then 80 or 90,000 miles out of them before a major expense comes your way. Great engines when they are working, if you really want just be prepared to pay for the expense that more likely then not will occur.
@@joebloggs4191 Well, tbh i never disagreed with you. I just got the feeling you're one of those keyboard warriors getting onboard the n54 hate train. Regardless i am verry well informed about the N54 problems, im in the market for a 335i.
@@AsmirSut Not at all I think despite their issues the N54 is a fabulous engine and would love to have the Sdrive35i but just not prepared to pay the amount that the engine will require if (highly probable) it goes wrong. I think with the N54 in later years or the N55, BMW sorted the issues out but I am not sure.
I think that BMW is coming away from the track-focused aggressive cars now and going with big heavy, power lumps that are more automated and toned down volume wise. The reason I suspect is that soon enough they will be moving over to an EV fleet. No noise, Lots of weight, big power but little feedback to the driver. Self-driving and all that jazz. I was not a happy boy when I heard that they are no longer offering the M performance exhausts options for their models. Also that the exhaust systems will be toned down on the m140's and m240's. I think I will stick with my m235i and Mitsubishi Evo track toy until a long-range EV comes out and I am forced to jump ship. I am one of those people who loves to modify motors and the sound is so important to me. The new regulations (particulate filters required for MOT) are going to stop people from doing that. Which for me is kind of depressing. I guess its stick with what you know though hey!

“It’s more of a GT car”. Didn’t it lap the Nürburgring faster than the first generation M2? Quite a capable GT then hehe 🤔😅
Yeah I heard that and find it impossible to believe, either way this car feels more GT than sports car to me
In Sport Autos test it was only 3 seconds slower than the M2 Competition around Nürburgring
@Life Lasting: actually the Z4 feel more planted than the M2 Competition
you guys mentioned the 20i...What about the 30i.. Wouldn't it be the sweetspot?
I’ve got the S30i on loan for the weekend and that’s impressed me so far
Yeah that might be the pick of the 3... 👌
Joe Achilles against my M3 its a completely different car obviously but as you say in the video, for what this car is going to be used for it definitely seems the right choice having the 30i
@@JoeAchilles1 Nah, just get the 20i and remap it to 30i numbers or even beyond.. Then spend the money saved on some nice options..
You probably know this, but spinning the tires on dirt, then hitting pavement is what breaks stuff. Nice video thought for sure, great car!
Priced right, that why i dont see a lot on the road. All the better for me!
I drove an M140i so I can imagine its👌
7:50 best advice ever given to u and many other you tuber "professionals" reviewing it for the customer not yourself.
This is a great looking car, although I reckon it looks a million times better in standard Sport trim rather than M Sport. Less fussy and much more elegant.
A bit like the last generation E89 too, it looks better without the M Sport spec IMHO.
I’d buy this car over the supra, I like the lightweight soft op that they went for and the car isn’t masquerading as something else. Just is what it is.
Wouldn't be the 30i the perfect match then? 250bhp and the same light engine like the 20i, but way more power and torque.
Couldn’t help wondering how Joe would go with some of Becca’s eyelash extensions. Hmm 🤔.
It's a nice car, but I absolutely don't like that BMW has to put black piano parts into the dash although you didn't choose the piano black trim panels. 4:03 Same for the new G20 3 series.
Smart looking car, I think I'd rather have this than the Supra.

Just wait for them to bring the Z4M out...Hopefully 🤞🏻
I have developed quite a soft spot for it. Looking forward to next month 💪🏻
Haha I wonder if this is the next car in Nick's garage.... Hmm ;-)

Beautiful drone shots.
Can't beat breakfast wine.
Is the 2.0I a Silver Cross mode?, must be if she knows about it, may I also suggest love a cot quilt and bumper set review stick to what know hey.
Can you translate?
Hey dude. Another great video mate! Keep them coming. Does it feel like assisted steering or disconnected in a way compared to old models?
Cheers man! It just feels too heavy, the 20i felt really good in comparison, it almost had what I would call steering feel 😉
Sounds like the 2.0 with a remap is the way to go

Think the 20i could get the way to go if it's the b48 they map to about 300bhp so a lot to save!
Thank you! Yeah I honestly think a re mapped 20i would be the sweet spot, it would lack the glorious straight 6 soundtrack though ;-) Cheers
Nice vid and comments from QB. Where was the test drive? Looks a great place!
4.5 seconds ? On the U.S BMW website it states 3.9!
Ohh really... There is no way this is a sub 4 second to 60 car
Think they've made it a bit beefier in the US @@JoeAchilles1

I have no idea ? But that’s what the site says
for U.S.A the Z4 M40I Will come with 382 hp maybe 4.2 seconds like M340I due new regulation in emission for europe and filters.

Great review Joe - 220i sounds like sweet spot
They look fantastic in the flesh but sounds like it's not going to drive like a cayman
You two have great chemistry and think you continue doing reviews together! Great vid
Not sure about the contribution from second reviewer/presenter in terms of technical insight on the car under review. "hammies"?!!

Nice clip, good combo you two. Becky looks very flexible 👍🏻
A 20I the hek !! There is nothing worse than a 4cylinder bmw . Like omg I test drove a 430 and honest to god a Jetta drives better
please wash to car :))
Disappointed in the Z4 M40i, the Supra is a superior car, being worth the 50k price tag, the Z4 is not. Shame the Supra is "sold out" for now....
Not very objective. If you don't understand the roadster concept, don't try to explain it
thumbs up, next vid: More of Becky stretching please, ...or Joe....don't want to come across as sexist.
