My Friend Bought A 2019 BMW Z4!
At the last minute, I discovered that my friend Ethan who runs carsandbreakfasthampshire had organised a small photoshoot/meet so that Julian could show off his brand new 2019 G29 Z4, which he had just collected. I had to pop down and take a look at the car.

I bought my first Z4 today as well as that being my first BMW here in Arizona. I love it.... such a fun car to drive. I think you sold me on it after watching your vids the last few months.

Bit late to this particular party. Got hold of one yesterday, exactly 3 years old 20k mile fully loaded car all the tech toys, electrics HUD park assist etc, red with oyster leather.
38k car full BMW history, absolutely love it striaght 6 with that ZF 8 speed is just a great combination 👌
I just ordered the 30i in black sapphire metallic. I chose a cognac interior, 19" black rims, and every package BMW had available. I didn't spend the extra on the 40i because after test driving the 4 cylinder turbo, it is more than enough power for me to sit in traffic living in NY. I got mine loaded for $60,000. I really love it. The only drawback is that I have to wait up to 3 months to get it.

Like you I wasn’t a huge fan when the G29 was unveiled and preferred the looks of my E85 but it really has grown on me. I think in the black paint it looks awesome and I definitely agree with you about the rear end looking a lot more aggressive. To say I want one is an understatement...I NEED ONE! Much prefer it to the E89. I’d spec it in black with the same colour interior but I’d defo opt for the wind deflector. Love those 5 twin spoke alloys as well!

It looks the best in black for sure, but it's too 'prestige' in my view - especially the interior. Like a diet 6 Series. It's like a Z4 my Dad would buy.....for the creature comforts, while I would happily stick with my E85. Same name, but it's a different car, for a different audience, I think. Shame you didn't go an have a look at that gorgeous looking Alfa in the background!
Your videos are top notch! I’m loving your channel, good content, very entertaining! Thank you! I just bought a 04 2.5i last summer with 46k miles on it. It’s like brand new but now it has 55 k on it. lol I can’t stay out of it. 99 percent of the miles I put on it have been on backroads! So fun! Oh by the way the 2019 is stunning to look at! But it looks huge! I’m not sure how I feel about it being so much bigger.

Juliann’s new ride is super nice...Beautiful color. When you put your Z4 side by side...Your car has classic styling and looks equally as awesome to me. Your car is likely more fun to drive with the manual transmission.

I have one on order (Z4-M40i). One thing that stood out from your video is the Wind Deflector comment. On my sheet (in Canada) the wind deflector is a "Standard" item with the M40i. I would advise your friend to look into that. Love the sound and can't wait for mine to arrive. I opted for a white one fully loaded, with the 6Cyl Turbo.

I love that BMW are keeping the Z series going, owning a Z3 myself I know how great it can be. I feel like the essence of the roadster is lost in the new Z4 with the automatic gearbox and the size and weight of the car. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful car. I'm sure its perfectly capable and a lot faster than mine is but personally I'm not that excited by it. Great video though Joel!

Beautiful car! Its look is growing on me, looks great in black actually, which I didn’t expect. However front lights are still not aggressive enough for me. Miss the shark face of the E89 :) Thanks for uploading, tomorrow I gonna take mine out for a 3h roof down spring drive through Bavaria, can’t wait for summer :)
It's definitely one of those cars that grows on you the more you look at it!
I just ordered my 2020 Z4 M40i....to arrive at my home in about five days. Even in the states, this car is quite rare. I've never seen one live on the road. The only ones I've seen are in these RUclips videos...I would like to have gotten all of the bells and whistles, but since the 2021s are almost out, it's almost impossible to find the 2020s and when you add the Premier package and/or the Executive package, you can add another $5,000 to the price. Last week, I searched all of the online car sites and saw no more than 51 for sale in the U.S. BTW, I went with the Alpine White and Cognac interior. Thanks for the video!

I've been hoping to see one of these in the flesh. This will suffice until then. Thanks. As for the Z, (Ok, Zed) things I would like, a two-tone wheel. I like the design, but I'd like a little more contrast in the finish. Things you didn't mention: cup holders, oil leaks ;), engine size/layout, is that a real M badge, or is it for show? The side by side shot was awesome. I own an E85 and I'm not sure the new Z(Zed) will fit in my garage. It is big! Enjoy your holiday...

Is the cockpit/driving seat actually bigger than the old e85/e85 where tall people struggled?
He hasn't "Gone" with the blue calipers, they are standard with all M spec cars. My M Package 435d Grand Coupe had them too. He'll regret that leather choice for interior trim and seats. I had it as well and had to learn how to clean it without ruining the leather as my jeans etc dirtied it very quickly. I had the hard-top Z4 a few years ago. Regreted buying it in the end as that steel top took up so much space when down that..... The new soft-top is brilliant and long overdue. Lovely looking car 👍

Random Elvis Never liked the looks of the E85 personally, E89 is more beautiful and more practical :) I might be biased though since I own a 35i. At the end all that matters is to have the amazing inline 6 engine :)

It's funny how when I bought my z4 I was shocked by how big it was compared to my previous cars. But just looking at the difference between the new z4 and the e85, I can I say I was completely wrong! The new one is massive! Can't wait to pick one up myself one day 😍

It looks Japanese. The front reminds me of the Nissan Juke, angled (aggressive) front bumper reminds me of a fully loaded 2019 Totota Camry, the rear looks like a Pontiac Solstice, rear quarter panel looks reminiscent to a Nissan Murano, lastly; the side profile reminds of an MX5. All this and 10/10 needs a manual.
I've always loved the Z4 and this one is no exception. Having a 240i I thought the blue callipers were standard? But I might be wrong

That's a really tricky question. They're about the same on power, however the new Z4 has the faster gearbox so that'll be quicker in a straight line. The power delivery from the NA Z4M would probably make that feel a lot faster though.
I'm a little worried about the soft top. Like I know back in the day they could sink or people could knife them and then eventually they went hard top. Is there a major difference between the two?
I wouldn’t worry. I’ve had a softop for over 2 years and never had an issue
Think the car looks absolutely fantastic I thinks its now almost the ultimate evolution of BMW's Z4 range it certainly has a more aggressive look to it and it's interior is outstanding.

Man! I am still not convinced about the look. It is just some mishmash of modern touches. Not necessarily ugly but indeed not sporty. Sorry but I wish they at least gave a more approachable front. U'll think I am mad but if had to choose one of the three gens I'd go with the e85

Agreed, the exterior lights and lines look a mess to me, that Kia style grill is hideous and doesn't work at all.
The front looks clumsy, unlike the previous generation which is very sharp.
I think they both look great but still i would choose your´s over this, simply because you can have it as a manual. I think the colour on the mirrors look like it could be champaign coloured :)

Absolutely shocked by the comparison to your Z4. The new one seems way too big and heavy. Although there are some advantages connected to a longer wheelbase and a wider track, it hurts to see brands like BMW develop such massive auto-transmission cars instead of E46, Z3 and 1 Series as manual great handling lightweigts.
If I could spend 60k on a car, it probably wouldn't be younger than 2007, rather from the very early 2000s or even late 90s. Looks like I was born too late :( I'm 19
Dude I'm totally with you, although I absolutely love this Z4 - I'm far more excited by old school cars with a bit of character. Somewhere between 30-40k you can have an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, 2016 BMW M6, Jaguar F Type V6s, 1st Gen Audi R8 and the list goes on!

The E85 has aged well. But the new Z4 has also grown on me mainly the front which I had an issue with, I think it's the black paint. Sound great...and must go like $hit off a shovel.
It's definitely fast, not sure it's much faster than the 35is though. But yes, the black pain definitely gives it a look that I desire

nice vid & a nice car! was @bmw to have a look and drive but to be honest, it's no more a real roadster like e85 it's more like a living room and too much bling bling. It's somehow more a care for the elder generation. e85 is more a real roadster with basic interieur. i'm glad i don't need to switch my car. the new z4 is still a nice car tho but did loose a lot of that what made the e85 a special car. the front looks more than a fiat spider abarth than a z4. like my mechanic @bmw told me, the spirit of the e85 has been lost and now z4 ist just a sports car like audi tt convertibel, porsche boxter etc. drive fast, drive safe & best wishes to you

Is it just me or did the 2016 z4 interior look a lot better? Dashboard I mean. Why still have a radio... It should all be on the screen and get rid of that bump. The front in black doesn't look too bad. They need to redesign the front plastic though to be more like the concept. The rest is beautiful. With the top up the rear 3/4 looks like a mustang......
I definitely see what you mean regarding the mustang!
Personally I think the frozen grey is a better colour for that car. The blue calipers I think are part of an M Sport + package but I could be wrong. Not sure about the styling of this new model, the concept Z4 looked way better and as usual BMW water downs the production models and looses many of the key design elements of the concepts. They've done the same with the new 8 series too.

I know what you mean. In fairness, I think it does look better in person.
Not a bad car by any means but no match to the E89 in terms of design. Looks cheap, weirdly stubby and has lost elegance. Tested it the other week - wins on engine and the seats are super comfy but the interior dash didn’t inspire. This has a short shelf life based on the tech - the previous model is a little more timeless. I’m happily staying with my E89 for a while.

Black looks good..because it hides all the fussy design features, any light colour it looks like it's design was based on screwed up paper retrieved from the waste bin.

E89 is still the best Z4.
