Thanks again Misha, what a drive. As someone in the media space I know the challenges of conveying speed through video but for anyone not aware, this was bloody quick considering how wet the track was. I tried my very best to look chill, but I was cacking myself! Such an awesome experience and a real eye opener to what is possible in the right hands. Great to spend the week with you and can’t wait for our M5 content to go live! Oh, and we’ll get that dry lap in next season for sure!
It's especially scary if you do your very first Ring lap with Misha, not realizing how much grippier the surface is than normal roads - meaning on normal roads, at those speeds, you're breaking traction and going into the barrier. And no, video, especially wide angle one like this, doesn't relate the experience at all - corners are much tighter and elevation changes much more extreme than they seem on video.
I have the previous model (E89) 35is (now at 231.000km), and looking at the new Z4. Still getting used to the new disign. Have mine upgraded with a fin & plate intercooler, other oil thermostat and had it tuned. Must plan a testdrive in the new one....have no idea how the ride compares. I know that with my 1m92, it will have a better fit :)
We have this car about half year, also the M40i. The car is superior, the engine is powerful plenty of torque. The only downside might be the weight, you really do feel the weight of the car. Although it pretty much handles well. So still a pretty good car to daily and have some fun
Microclimate has always been an issue at the Ring. It's big enough that it could be sunny in one part and rainy in another. It would have been really exciting 40 years ago when tyre technology wasn't as good as it is now
Shows that you can be pretty quick even in the wet if you have the proper track knowledge. The car did really well considering the conditions. Riding those bikes in the pouring rain must be something else for those bikers. Feels scary in a car.
To be fair I own this car and it's EXTREMELY SLIPPERY IN EVEN THE MILDEST WET CONDITIONS. Shortetest wheelbase of any bmw in 2 decades doesn't help. But he is driving it with traction control on though so that helps
That Z4 was not bad at all. The sound was great, even if it came from speakers. The grip and handling seemed alright, despite the wet track. Congratulations to the owner, he made the right choice 👍🏻
Ive watch many vudeos regarding the z4 m40i as part of my research into my next car, this was really interesting for a different reason. Just seeing what this car is capable of in the right hand and in the right situation helps with my decision 👏
I'd really love to see you compare it to the 4-Cylinder 30i Z4. Some say it's remarkably better handling and not really much slower, apart from top speeds of course. If you ever happen to get one on the track, your opinion is one that matters to me. It has happened many times now that you get your hands on a car that I really like but has mediocre reviews or no coverage at all and you happen to really like it 🙂
You definitely feel the weight difference, the s30i is more nimble and acceleration feels almost as good under 200kmh. It also has better balanced because the smaller engine is further back in the chassis. But I'm changing my s30i for an m40i anyway because I want to have that engine before it's banned in Europe.
@@stephenpage-murray7226 They weren't cheap, just didn't belong in the rain. The rears were drag radials, with tiny channels for rain. So once the rears started sliding, there wasn't much I could do. Have you thought about making a compilations of your favourite moments of the season? 2 Moments come to mind, like with Meggie when you saved M3 and carousel exit in Cayenne😄
Now, I'm interesting to see what's the difference Z4 rear suspension compare to GR Supra, what made them so bad! Really surprised a supposedly similar car can be so different!
@@mgcharoudin I remember you guys had a GR Supra & the alignment were horrible, it's almost as if no one check the alignment after the car was off the production line! Hopefully next year, someone would borrow a GR Supra to you. 😁
It seems that these guys are the ones that have the problem, plenty of other dudes all over the place without these issues. Might've been a single car issue
Is the material stress worth the fun of kerbing? Or is it just for the knowledge of how the car drives over those bumps? I wouldn't like my car to be driven over them either way since it only causes costs to rapidly 'bump' the schedule that way. Not being able to afford hobbies takes away all the fun from them :(
good point that seems to be forgotten by a fast guys with plenty of sources, you can also drive slower and don't push that hard, just watch your mirror for upcoming traffic and make them space
I have a Z4 M40i and the fake sound is actually quite good but never comes across on video. I had to turn it off after fitting a DSP amplifier. The dsp amplified the fake sound to unbearable levels. With no fake sound the car sounded awful. It is truly silent, eerily so. I’ve a euro model with OPF filter 😢. I’ve now fitted a 200 cel sports cat which improves things greatly but the opf has to go. The fake sound is now back on but at a lower level. It has to be altered at pro coding level.
@@Largeone1968 I just removed the OPF a week ago on my M40i and brother, it's the single greatest thing you can do to that car. It sounds so good now, and it feels like it can properly breathe after 4k RPM instead of sounding choked. And I'm pretty sure some power was gained as well, the car feels more eager to go. Just do it, you won't regret it. Just keep in mind that you'll need those LEIB connectors, specifically the OPF deleter (which will prevent limp mode) and the CAN MIL deleter (which will prevent check engine light - this one's optional). The CAN MIL is a bit of a pain to install, you can take it to a shop. Or you can bypass both of these and get a tuning box (since we can't flash remap yet, DME is locked). If, like me, you're worried about passing the emissions test: you can fit the new and old midpipes (that's where the OPF is) with V-bands such that you can easily swap them whenever you need to pass your test. I think this option is like 100-150 EUR more expensive compared to welding, but it's worth it for peace of mind.
@@xIcarus227Shortly after I posted I fitted a bypass pipe in place of the OPF filter. Combined with the sports cat this was too loud for my tastes. I went back to the exhaust company and they fitted a straight through resonator where the OPF used to be. The car now sounded good. I bought a ASR remote valve controller and that’s when I realised thar the valve is almost always open, even in comfort. This meant that the OPF bypass might have been acceptable after all. I then fitted a quad tip Remus axle back. This added some more noise and deep bass. It also has twin valves. Even with the valves are open, the car is never noisy. I have a decat in the garage which I shall try and see what that does. I may then try another OPF bypass pipe but it that proves too noisy again I may try a valved resonator in place of the OPF. I shall get there in the end. Removing the OPF adds a lot of torque, not that these cars are short of it.
@@Largeone1968 haha nice man, looks like you went pretty all-out with it. I'm glad you found the Remus one to be adequate for you. You're right that a sports cat increases volume a lot, a simple OPF strikes a good balance in my opinion. I've seen an M40i with OPF and cat delete and it was hella loud. It would make sense that removing the OPF adds torque, it does feel like power has increased across the entire rev range, and there seems to be less turbo lag at low RPMs. I guess the ECU can take advantage of the less restricted exhaust flow automatically, without a remap.
