Even among Chanel’s legendary commercials, this one is simply the best. You can feel the scent of the wood in old train or spices of the oriental market, cold air of the fall, lonliness of travelling alone, wealthy of sleeping in bed compartment altogether.. and all those make you feel what it is like to live as women wearing Chanel.
It's because there are no good channel let aloe perfume commercials. Only the ones like this one, with a stoy make it worthwhile.
So many scentes, sinestesic...
This is a second to the Nicole Kidman Ad.. but very close to being number one. Still memorable after all these years..
I think we found the director
The male model in this ad, Travis Davenport did not age well. He looks terrible now
The reason why you love this is because it’s the same director who directed the film “Amelie”, Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Le fabuleux destin d’Amelie Poulain
Well, in case you haven't noticed, this is a retelling of Amélie.
And ‘A Very Long Engagement’ also starring Audrey Tautou 😉
*This actress in this Commercial is AMELIE POULAIN.*
This is a real commercial, so classy, so elegant, full of history and so glam! Love it!
We are going in to the matter
Thanks
Yeah....unfortunately the fragrance is not....for me))
and some kind of creepy.

I want everything she wore. Especially the black jumpsuit.
Me too- 5 years later and I am still looking out for something similar
Same!! All of them! Why can’t fashion now be timeless and elegant and amazing?!
Check BCBGmaxazria if you like the jumpsuit, you might find it there

This is way more beautiful than many full-length films at cinemas.

Omg thousand likes. Thank you 💖
Just imagine if the girl was ugly. There would be no story at all.
@@nehayadav1282 lol ..nobody is born ugly , they will be beautiful in someone's eyes
@@comradeleppi2000 Well... Chanel ads are made about people who are beautiful in everyone's or at least majority's eyes.
It would be a court appearance. That’s what it would be 😆
I think thta if he is ugly or not it's not what really matters. It's how he is seen in her eyes and her showing she likes him.
the cinematography is great

This is probably one of the most intriguing and artistic campaign Chanel did for No. 5. It evokes "Amelie" vibes for me. Remember the scene where Amelie goes into the haunted house and has that quirky yet sensual moment with Nino? I personally liked this one better than Nicole's version inspired by "Moulin Rouge" because it mixes the quirky charm of "Amelie" with the elegance, luxury, suspense, and mystery of Agatha Christie's "Orient Express." Plus, the cinematography and styling is absolutely *gorgeous.*
It's written and directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet. The same guy who made Amélie. This is why you got this feeling of familiarity.
does anyone love the cinematography at 1:17 when she opens the window. beautiful.
Oliver Daniel
I love everything in this clip.
1:34 and this too
AND 1:49.....that scene begins with the ship she is on "honking"......then it ends with the ship HE is on "honking", somewhat sadly, that she missed him AGAIN!
Well okay, you got me, I hated this add but I also think that part was good...
Twenty years later, and it still looks like it was filmed recently. So classy 💕
It was made 13 years ago
@@MrC77 You’re absolutely right! Hahaha, didn’t check the year.

Being good looking doesn't make a stalker any less creepy.
Nah, the trick is to smell nice 🤣
Yeah I mean... Ted Bundy was good looking and we know how that turned out. I still love the commercial tho
Hate to brake it to you.
But it does.
female logic in a nutshell ugly=creepy hot=charming
He is not stalker...she desires him and seduces him with her incredible beauty
We've got Audrey Tautou, great visuals, Billie Holiday playing in the background, and a fantastic two minutes and twenty-one seconds.
Istanbul + Audrey Tautou + Chanel No.5 ... The description of ultimate beauty.
Jean-Pierre Jeunet has an incredible talent. His direction is masterful. The cinematography is beautiful and of course, Audrey is the perfect classical elegant lady. This is one of the golden Chanel ad campaigns.
Jean Pierre Jeunet + Audrey Tautou + Billie Holiday + extraordinarily beautiful man = WINNING 😍😍😍

I didn't understand why people were so amazed by this commercial then I looked at the date, and I understood why. This commercial looks modern, but also stands by itself as its own unique movie. It's gorgeous and whatever channel's paying the one making it they well deserve it.

The writer and director of this commercial is the writer and director of Amélie. Jean Pierre Jeunet is his name.

yes, you are the only one.
Chanel’s best TV ad by far due to the charm of Audrey Tautou. The other ads are far too staged. This perfectly captures the allure of the perfume.
how refreshing, when back then they trusted their instinct and not the instagram-o-meter of a person. This would no longer be possible today.
They saw each other and thought of how attractive the other person was in my opinion
Back when??? This is creepy as hell and is supposedly taking place in the modern day

One of the best commercials EVER! The magic of the story, the magic of Istanbul and the Orient, the magic of the fragrance... And the Great Lady Day... I'm a fool to want you... So classy... ❤❤❤
In my opinion, the best Chanel commercial ever!
P.S.: Audrey Tautou is such a beautiful and brilliant actress!!! :)
Never tired of this timeless commercial , one of very few the best of all on earth
I really love that scene where we see the bottle of No. 5 vibrating whilst the hypnotic sound effect reverberates into chymes that is very reminiscent of the “swimming pool” soundtrack… it’s like the sound hints to the heritage of our amazing Chanel. Xo

I don't know why I keep coming back to this Ad but I just love the vintage inspired look
The details in this ad are gorgeous. In 00:25, when Audrey puts down the perfume bottle you can see her necklace chain shaped like a 5 (and I think the handsoap is a Camelia, Coco Chanel's favourite flower)
J adore ce film : il est beau, il nous embarque du côté des bonnes surprises et dit toute la complexité , la rareté d une rencontre … ❤
Classy, glamorous and mysterious... This is undoubtedly one of the finest Chanel No.5 advertisements! ♥️

So beautiful...
Unlike many negative comments regarding this “film “ , I personally find this very superb and wonderfully mysterious with intoxicating addictiveness...with retro touch of the screen colour . This in a way reminds me of the adaptation of Patrick Modiano literature by Patrice Leconte , “Le Parfum D’Yvonne “ . Both ( this film or cinema that I mentioned “Le Parfum D’Yvonne “ and this video )have to be “felt” and understood not via logic , but with imagination , feelings and self perception which may be not like pure fact based . And that each “senses “ may be different - so in tune with this Parfum Chanel numéro 5! Joyeux anniversaire à vous pour 100em année depuis 1921!
It was also so wonderful to see Audrey , compared to the timing of “Ameli “ has become even more beautiful and sophisticated...with Orient Express, Istanbul, etc made me so nostalgic of my residence in my life in Europe . Indeed Earnest Hemingway ( with Earnest Beaux ! ) is right regarding this famous passage of his novel “ Movable Feast “ ...

Wow what a beautiful statement I wish U would go on 😊
I don't understand the lyrics to the song though ?a fool?
@@calmcalm6203 Dear Calm Calm , Thank you very much indeed for your kind response to my comment . I had read and seen both the Patrick Modiano " Le Villa Triste " as well as its adaptation to the cinéma in 1990s - and I found both of them very mysterious /obscure but enough narratives to make communication with the audiences or readers very precise because of these " obscurity " .
I think his natural or intentional obscurity make the entire motif elegant and chic BUT very convincing with or without his intentions to make audiences AND especially readers to grasp with 6 senses what the author ( in this case Patrick Modiano ) very convincing .
