LOL ! They're having way too much fun. And I still find "shredding" annoying. Good showcasing of the guitars though. As always, I appreciate getting to see and hear the variety of different guitars, especially in this time of WuFlu.
2:06 The run Ariel plays into the main riff as Pete trades off guitars is impressive as hell... He kept that jam running really smooth while Pete switched out. REALLY nicely done.
My Larivée L-02 is LOVELY to sit on the sofa with and projects SO well. It was their "budget" model a few years back (£900), but the best in that price range by a country mile. Try a Larivée Pete. You'd like one methinks.
My sofa guitar is a 1969/70 Airline 7076 ( its just a rebadged, stripped down Sella H929 sold by Montgomery Wards) It has tiny ,thin frets , cheap painted on dots and Pickguard and no adjustable trust rod , but i like it. When i picked it up it was dirty, had a pickguard guled over the painted pickguard, had 4 rusty string and tuners that wound not move, but i got it for $35 and put 5 hours of work in to it. oh and its American made.
All nice Acoustic guitars....I recently played a PRS SE Acoustic in my local music store and it was Awesome ....it had no price on it so I thought it would be around a grand....so I asked and it was £400...outstanding quality for the price....I compared it to a Yamaha that was over twice the price and it was about the same....if you are going to buy any sort of guitar then don't buy blind....go a play one...if for at all possible..
Really nice playing from Ariel especially in this one. I was seriously considering buying the Sigma LM-SG00+ from Andertons but I'm in Europe and the currency exchange pushed the price up a bit, to the point where I could find an Alvarez here (an all-solid wood version of the Delta00E) for not that much more... so I bought that... but yeah Andertons made me do it even if I didn't buy it from you...
The comfort of a dreadnaught (or it being uncomfortable) isn't simply about the length of your arms and being tall, but whether it is uncomfortable or not. I am 6'4" and find (when sitting) dreadnaughts to be uncomfortable. My shoulder tends to hurt. it is about how the shoulder is at a certain rotation when playing. This may not bother other tall people, but it bothers me. So.... my dreadnaught does not get played as often. And you will play more often the guitar you find comfortable. For me my go-to is my Taylor 314ce LTD. It has the same volume as a dreadnaught, but the shape causes it to sit lower and removes shoulder ache. Parlor or "couch" guitars would likewise be more comfortable to play... though I don't own any (on the list though). Sofa/couch and Parlor guitars also make great "travel" guitars. Cheers!
A couple years ago I was looking for a front porch guitar, maybe an O to OOO size and short scale. Then for a lark I tried a Cordoba Fusion and was blown away. I would have to pay 2 or 3 times as much to get similar tone, resonance and sustain from a steel string. I still work to get full bar chords on the wide flat neck, but the tone competes with my Santa Cruz D & it is so much more comfortable to play just lounging around. Not as loud and it won't do in a bluegrass band, but for just sitting around the porch or living room it's the cat's pajamas.
Got an Art & Lutherie Roadhouse as a couch/travel guitar in 2017. Tremendous value for money. Don't know if you have A&L in the UK. They are a Godin brand, made in Canada. Lots of places here in the Northwest carry them.
Adam Sentz Wow. So rarely hear people mention Art & Lutherie. They are great guitars. They do unique woods too. I had one as my first acoustic. Bought it from a used guitar shop when I was 19. Great guitar. Tough to play a little. Had really high action and was difficult to get it down to a comfortable height, but I got used to it. Traded it for an upgrade, but it was a pretty good guitar.
The addition of 00-015 Retro martin is an awesome guitar with the addition of the Ebony fretboard. By far my favorite acoustic sofa guitar/ guitar I own in general.
I have a Guild M-240E that I use for “sofa” playing and since I got it several months back it’s been my go to guitar %90 of the time. Highly recommended.
I've got a martin 000-15m. I'm currently sitting on my couch, and it's just a bit too big for a couch guitar. And I'm a big dude. 1,94m (idk how much that is in inches). It's a great recording guitar, and a guitar that inspires me every time I put my hands on it, but it's just a bit too big for sitting on a sofa. Get it, and play it on a chair. :)
My definition of a sofa guitar is one that is less expensive and I don't mind keeping out of its case without controlled humidity that anyone can pickup and play.
LOVE my Alvarez Masterworks MFA66SHB! Nut and bridge were cut a bit high but a quick trip to my tech and it plays like butter, sounds great, solid wood and well under 1k even with the good setup. I can't think of a better couch guitar (which is exactly why I bought it).
I have the artist version of their Parlor and it is also fantastic. I have their MDA66SHB as well and love it. Alvarez makes the absolute best guitar for the money.
After way too much research, got the AP66, same dimensions, all mahogany. Available with electrics that I declined. Did replace tuners after I broke one that was frozen. I realized later that I could've loosened it. Agree, it can be loud and not nearly as boxy-sounding as other parlors. I think the deeper body helps. For a bit over $300, for me, perfect 12-fret couch guitar.
I sold my non electric Faith Mercury to buy the Martin 000. I miss having the Faith around tho it was the perfect sofa guitar and actually had excellent projection.
Not quite as classy as these, but I think the Gretsch Jim Dandy is a solid contender. Shorter scale, small body and it plays smooth. Throw some silk & steels on it and you've got a really nice player for a pretty low price point.
I have the Alvarez Blues 12 fret and I absolutely love it ! Great little guitar. Instead of buying my one Martin I should have bout 4 or 5 different Alvarez guitars.
I think as a smaller acoustic for the sofa or even wander the streets or play at a park, the 3/4 sized, small scale traveller or a parlor size and I like the Luna acoustic guitars.
The worlds favourite transatlantic duo since laurel and hardy. How about some love for the Martin Lxe1 my sofa guitar? Has Ariel let Pete have a go on his Mule resonophonic yet?
After hearing many acoustics and doing a shootout with some, my favorite one is still the PRS SE Parlour guitar I have. It has mid range you don't get with other acoustics. You can even plug it in.
Parlor Guitar - Parlor or parlour guitar usually refers to a type of acoustic guitar smaller than a Size No.0 Concert Guitar by C. F. Martin & Company.
Great performance!! All are great!! I love a body size which is less than 000 by Martin. I have been playing a guitar over 27 years and nowadays both arms and fingers are wound a bit. So body depth and size are really important for me to play comfortably. Besides if I play an electric acoustic guitar in a band, I may think 00 is lack of low end. But I do not have an opportunity to play in a band. I use Fender strat or tele there. Sofa guitar can be enough for me to play not only on the sofa but at a bar plugged in.
Pretty please bring back electric Guitar Paradiso?? It was the best guitar show on RUclips. I've re-watched so many times. Watching Ariel makes me miss it so :-(
All great guitar's l would go with the Martin, would have been nice to see the GS Mini in the line up to see how It compares .... My main guitar I got back in the 70s is a Guild D25 but I do have a Baby Taylor which I play when watching TV , thanks for all the great Videos
Great line up. Thanks. I can't really see the point of the 12th fret neck join and I would probably ignore those guitars because of it. Can someone tell me the advantage of a 12th fret neck join?
Some say that because the bridge is moved further back it improves the sound. I've got two 12 fretters and one 14 fretter. The 12 fretters are definitely louder and more middle-y. Be honest, how often do you play beyond the 12th fret on an acoustic?
@@kingstumble - Thanks for the reply. You're right, I don't go much above 12 very often at all, but I do got to 12 fairly often. I'd hate 12 to feel as awkward as 14 does to me on my acoustic.
Yep, Atkin is a walk over in my opinion. Not sure you have an affordable option in the four for an Aussie battler. £550 queens quids = $992 queens dollars which is a shed load of gas, electricity, water, food and fuel.... Maybe you could do a poverty review of the next best four for the blokes (and Sheila’s) down under?

Missed a Tyler mini there! Compared it to a Martin and the Tyler had the best sound and best to play on. (I have a Martin OMJM, best guitar I ever played)
I wanted a guitar to sit in the living room and look good as well as play nicely. I am left handed which limited my choice and couldn’t go over a bag of sand (grand). I thought the faith sounded the worst unplugged but it is a proper parlour guitar. But it sounded the best plugged in! As it was the easiest to pick up and play and I fell in love with the scoop! I bought the Faith. I still love it. Back in my living room the sound volume is perfect. Also same price for lh.
I have to mention the Faith Mercury Naked series for £399, which is great value and well worth checking out, it would be able to hold its head high among these four guitars. It’s a real pleasure to listen to you two play : )
Nice selection, but omitted from this list is the Tanglewood TW40 SO VSE from their Historic Sundance range. Well worth a try, sounds huge for its small size and has a fishman pickup too. Looks beautiful too. I stumbled across it in a shop after never giving Tanglewood a second thought. I always keep an eye on their new lines now. 👍
The Martin Road Series is another great sofa guitar. I just bought the 000RS1. It is fantastic! Unbelievable what Martin is doing in their Mexican factory! All solid sapele back and sides. Very lively sounding guitar. And it comes with electronics. Even for something to bring places and not worry too much about. That's why I got it!
You asked, what do I have? Gretsch Roots parlor. Great "Sofa" guitar. Everyone that picks it up asks where to get one ... But these are some nice ones too. I think I like the Alvarez : )
