For your pond's integrity sake, I would fill the pond and then add the bluegills. You are already seeing erosion on the pond lining and it is essential that the clay and bentonite surface gets packed and seated by the water
I was thinking the same thing. It seems likely that there will be washouts that could spoil all of that work and money spent to do the pond right! 😀
So we can be expecting a video of new clay and bentonite being brought in the spring . . Why because all the heavy rain has washed all that money away . The fish know what to do as far as laying their eggs . So all the money you have in the pond that sucker would be filled ASAP

I would finish filling the pond to prevent the clay from being washed out by the rain. The ducks would be fine at the pond with a structure for them. A floating structure sounds cool.
Baby ducks that small dont have water fathers. The leak was below current water level it should be safe even with the erosion. But he needs to put in the boat ramp an other gravel beds before its filled
Look up floating duck islands. Build a floating island, with dirt, grass , some structure for them to hide under. They don't need a house, maybe just a roof, big enough for all of them to get under, as they grow. Say, 8 foot square covered with tall grasses, a 4 foot square roof, grass on top, setting 14 -18 inches off the bottom. Plenty of room to build a nest, under the cover. Have 4 35 gal. plastic barrels under it for buoyancy. You could add some sand and water to stabilize the barrels.
i’m not sure on waiting to fill the pond if you get too many heavy rains in the summer it’s gonna keep washing out the clay

@FLAIR. I've been meaning to suggest for a few months that you *really* need to add/ insert a 50'x50' island into your fish pond! Make it 75'x75' at the base with a slope up to the 50' piece above water. Put it towards the deeper end so it's more predator proof, and add a duck nest structure (Ducks unlimited has plans online) on a pole on the new island. Seed the island with prairie grass, maybe add a abandoned tractor to the island for ambiance

We raised a "flock" of mallard babies when I was about 6. They were right out of an incubator. I remember the food was a small pellet crumble type consistency. We eventually released them at our pond and let them go wild. For the next 10 years or so those babies and their descendants nested around our house every spring. Made the first month or so of mowing interesting.
Your pond should get an award for the MOST EXPENSIVE structure pond ever.
Why are you not concerned with all that metal and rubber contaminating the water, makingyhe fish sick and you too if you eat them. Ove time that crap will rust and break down, te paint wil flake of etc. I believe natural things like ticks and trees/ brush piles are safer.

A few things in that pond won't hurt a damn thing. Rust? That's oxidized iron. Iron is a natural element... you get arsenic from an apple. There's so much more worse shit to worry about than some structure in a private farm pond.
I agree with what's been said about a floating pond house. Ducks in the wild mostly keep babies safe in the water. You can release them as soon as you have a safe place on the pond.

What I came here to comment! That and he needs to build the dock already so he can get feeder going and get his controls setup for lights and aerator before it gets deep!

Mark my word… the pond will leak because he fucked up the only thing he needed to pay attention to… Washed out bentonite means bye bye water, which means he spent all that money for nothing, like he was scared a few videos ago. But hey… he's not learning. Doing the same mistakes over and over again, instead of just finishing one project, he starts about ten other things to generate videos and views. But nothing ever gets proper finishing. If he's not satisfied, he just sells the crap (like the bunker) and moves on to the next place..

You could teach them to be able to hand feed them as they grow up. It’s really cool.
If you build a floating dock for swimming out to they can nest on it. Or you can build a boat pier/dock off land and build some box structure, put some of the previous nest in it you can train them to nest in the boxes. Otherwise you can plant several weighted post off shore put a large bird box on it for the ducks to seek refuge in.

The pond next to me has 3 duck houses floating around the pond and I think it’s the best idea to help keep them safe from predators
You need to build a simple duck box. They’re elevated at the water’s edge on posts because snakes like duck eggs and other varmits too. Mom can fly up into the box.

Use a plastic pallet they float u can add empty pop bottles under it or use capped pvc to help float it. Make sure to anchor it out in the pond

Definitely recommend filling the pond as soon as possible I wouldn’t hold out. You can see the erosion already starting only a matter of time before it goes deeper and then your pond potentially starts leaking and there goes all the work you did this spring

You can put them all in the pond now, especially if you have nothing swimming in it big enough to grab them. Build a floating "dog" house with the ramp and they'll be happy. As to what they eat in the wild, grubs, aquatic and land plants.

You should move the ducks into the pond at around 50-60 days old, that way they won't be 100% dependent on the mother for everything.
