The Photo Mode in this game is without a doubt one of the absolute best, of not close to THE best, Photo Modes EVER in any game that has implemented it. And it’s up there with the Photo Mode in games like The Order: 1886.
Cause 99 percent of people don't do lame stuff like photo mode. You want photos then go outside and take a damn picture of real life stuff instead of wacking it to a video game sunset.
This game was more Assassin's Creed than the last couple Assassin's Creed games. Also SO GLAD you mentioned Kurosawa mode...his influence on the film world is really something to be admired. That mode really added that je ne sais quoi to the game I didn't know I needed. Not that it's bad WITHOUT that mode but....with it...hot damn. It's something else.
To be fair, while it was more of a stealth game than the last assassins creed were, I'm really happy that they changed the assassins creed formula. It got old after revelation and with the exception of black flag, most of the ones after revelations were rather mediocre. I had a blast playing Odyssey. And I did not miss the old ac at all.
I honestly never played a single AC game, but I find hard time believing it is as good as this. Ghost and SPiderman are my 2 favorite PS4 exclusives, system sellers right there. Not exactly Witcher 3, but very satisfying, reminded me a lot of Shadow of Mordor, but with a better more memorable story.
@@SongJiangShiJin I'm glad people are enjoying it. For me personally it was rather tiring completing several hundreds of repetitive quests that feel monotonous. Characters' voice acting feel without emotion and I could not for the love of God invest any interest in them. When it comes to gameplay the issue of repetition is again in play, it looks same after 100 hours. That is why Ghost of Tsushima is absolutely different from the AC genre and if it was an AC title it, it would be the best one in the franchise.

The story has a ton of historical accuracy. The island of Tsushima was invaded by 20,000 Mongols, up against 80 Samurai and close to 200 warriors in total. While Tsushima was taken the Mongols only made it to the second smaller island and no further. When you think about it using that island would have made for quite a short game, so I think they made the right decision.

Smokey 1419 honestly every ps open world game does it pretty well, I platinumed ghost and Spider-Man just because how fun the open worlds where also horizon is the best kind of open world game I think there is
Cas The Demon I don’t think it has the best combat but it’s serviceable, you can say the same about the Witcher. Ghost of Tsushima though has amazing combat
First game I ever platinumed. A cinematic masterpiece. A tale of loss, family, honor, and the consequences in between. Yes, even though we have seen these open world gameplay elements before, never have they been done so well. A true Tour De Force in game design
I'm 40yr old man, and I have watched streaming of Ghost of Tsushima closer to 50hours by now. I love the nature, I love the characters, I love the soul this game has. It's so good, that I feel it's the best game I have ever seen, that is most likely not the case, but I just can't remember anything as completely awesome game right now.
@@MrMichaelGutierrez Are you talking about the new God of War? I thought the puzzles were pretty straight forward and quick to get through in the last one. The other God of Wars definitely had some pain in the ass puzzles though.
Yes.. but The Enemies are harder on Hard Mode.. especially on Duel. If you are already familiar with combat mechanic, it could be easier. I beat Ronin on Hard for at least 1 minute, but it just 22 seconds on Lethal. Because they could give you a lot of damage, but you could give them bigger,
To be fair the emphasis on lethal mode is that it’s supposed to be the scenario where both you and the enemies are more lethal towards one another. So it’s a high risk, high reward type game mode.
Something I didn't realize until half way through, is the weather aspect. The MORE you embrace the ghost, the more turbulent and stormy the weather becomes at all times. Games a masterpiece.
It’s so refreshing to actually see someone show appreciation and enthusiasm for a game for once. I don’t know, I feel like my favorite game websites are so jaded about every game that comes out, and then they give game of the year to a fucking tetris screensaver. Thank you for your review, Jeremy.
This really felt like a much needed palette cleaner after the massive disappointment and narrative mess of TLOU2, for me (even though that honor goes to The Messenger as well). An absolutely epic and enthralling Samurai tale to take part in.
This is why Jeremy has been the only reviewer I like checking out. He is so honest and pure he just tells it how it is. Even if he talks bad he has valid points and offers alternative options. The man is a treasure.
I finally downloaded it on my PS4 Pro and am about 24 hours into it. I had to force myself to get up and urinate and go to sleep, lol My alarm clock is set super early so in just a couple more hours I will be playing Ghost of Tsushima for many more hours. I love this game. 🌚
I wish more game designers would GET this: The best games are often the ones in which there are pieces, large pieces, even whole ways of playing that a first-time player can completely miss. I know your texture design department spent a lot of time and money on the world; you can still let people fast travel. You have stealth close-kill, stealth distance-kill, AND open melee tactics? Let the player choose how they want to play it! Forcing the player to do something BECAUSE you put it in the game and you demand that they appreciate it is how you get GTA 4, or worse.
I didn't care for GTA 4 because it removed a ton of the pure fun from the previous games. We went from lifting weights, riding bikes, learning kung-fu, driving tanks in San Andreas to bowling and playing darts. You could only play 4 straight laced there was no deviation. I understand it was the tone they were going for but it felt bland.
@@Mcgriffin67 It's a matter of preference then, because I love it despite wasting hundreds of hours in San Andreas. GTA V could have been better but they took some small steps back for that game, in terms of physics.
@@Mcgriffin67 gosh, thousands I guess, PS3 + PC. I think it's the mods and the physics that made me love the game more than San Andreas. I didn't play any of the minigames, I just keep driving around and playing against the cops inside the hospital. I also replayed the story about 7 times until I found a mod in PC that lets you choose which missions you want to replay without making another save. I do understand the complaints about the game. The downsized map and the decreased mini games were quite a turn off.
Great swan song for the generation. They really nailed it again. The PS3 ended with The Last of Us and the PS4 ends with Ghost of Tsushima. Incredible. Sony killed it this generation and I can't wait for the PS5.
You can see the optimism, sheer awe and smiles of everyone playing this game. Everyone came out of this game wanting more, positive, and simply happy. Now that is the mark of a great game. When everyone can empathize and agree together. Not unlike a certain dumpster fire that just came out and failed completely because it prioritized political agenda and shock value.

@@mishoa1 If you want to talk sales, TLOU2 has completely failed in Asia (which has the biggest video game market on the planet). They hate the game. Did you see that Korean streamer guy who pulled out the disk and literally cut it up with scissors while on stream? The game is a failure to a large portion of the world.
Yes but it actually has sole and heart put into it. If ubisoft made a feudal Japan AC it would be bland, lifeless, grindy side missions, half ass RPG mechanics and painfully mediocre and forgettable in terms of story, character and intrigue. Suckerpunch really knocked it out of the park with this one, making it into my top 10 favourite games of all time (newer ac titles have never even got close)
Christiaan Bell Well halfway through the story is not groundbreaking but told pretty well while the world is downright gorgeous. It is a bit distracting when Tale cutscenes to the “cut to black” transition, but the stories are usually engaging enough to excuse them.
Just stopped and realized thag the each of the stance buttons makes sense regarding the contexts in which they're used: the triangle is a the tip of a spear, the circle is a shield, the "X" is strike or slice of a sword or swords, and the square represents the "blocky" nature of a brute. Beautiful.
This is my first ever game that I Platinumed. I always play games to enjoy the story, but Ghost of Tsushima consumed me so much that I couldn't stop playing. Hands down this was a masterpiece!
This is the game I've wanted my whole life. I've grown up playing Way of the Samurai and the Tenchu games. My favorite anime of all time is Rurouni Kenshin. So, this is exactly what I've been looking for. We finally have the Red Dead Redemption of Samurai films.
Ubisoft games: large open world with annoyance masked as quest and monetization/grinding GOT: large open world with compelling missions and liberated areas that actually stay liberated, while you can still find patrols randomly, where you feel immersed and not grinding at all. That is the fundamental difference between making a game and making a cashgrab recycling the same game every year or 2.
After Valhalla, I could really see beyond all doubt how many corners were being cut in the AC games. the environment looks detailed, but it's not crafted with anything like the same care. It's a cluttered, random mess. The traversal, parkour, and combat are just lifted from previous games with a few additions. And for the most part, they just haven't been polished to feel good. Compare riding a horse in Valhalla with the thuddy, satisfying ride in RDR2 or Ghost. Game feel is hard to quantify, but it's so important. And Valhalla just feels weightless and cheap. But mostly, Valhalla just has this pervasive feel that it hasn't been polished. The environment feels sloppily thrown together. The game play feels more like a tasks list. And the quests ramble on with little structure or pacing. They're occasionally interesting, but even the best AC game has nothing like the weighty story that Ghost had. They're just endless rehash of vague philosophies about order vs chaos. They're all conceptual stories rather than personal ones. Ghost, on the other hand, puts its protagonist right in the center of a crystal clear dilemma, torn between his between duty to traditional honor and his duty to protect his people. It's a conceptual dilemma, but it also uproots his very identity, in a way that's emotionally accessible to the player. We feel deeply engrossed in Jin Sakai's inner conflict. That's an experience I've never once had with an AC game. Maybe Odyssey a little bit. But Odyssey resolves its emotional conflict in a distinctly unsatisfactory way. You either make up with your family, or you end up alone. It does nothing to explore the emotional ramifications of either choice, good or bad, or unpack the larger personal, social, or political issues around them. Ghost does all of that, repeatedly, throughout the game, at every level. Literally every aspect of the game, from combat-vs-stealth to the costumes and collectables to every single side-quest, brings you back to contemplating the conflict between honor and survival. Mostly, AC games are just a progression of errands to run and fights to win. Occassionally, an enemy might have a nasty little philosophical rant to get your blood boiling, but that's as emotionally engaging as it's going to get. The rest is just random scavenger hunts, mediocre stealth puzzles, and enemies to fight. And maybe a halfway decent boss fight once or twice a game. It's just not enough. The thing is, I'd agree that they need more time between projects, but I don't think it would help. Even if these games had more polish, more thought and care in the environments, less empty grinding, they'd still have the core problem of just being weak, paper-thin stories. AC has charming, charismatic main characters, but they're no good at actual character. Once they've conceived and cast a likeable protagonist, they think their job is done. So those protagonists don't go anywhere. They eventually run into the "mystery" of the AC backstory lore, and maybe learn they're are the reincarnation of some crap or other, and that's as far as they get. None of it means anything, because the back story is meaningless. It's going anywhere or saying anything emotionally resonant about the human condition. As with most "mysterious" backstories, core fans hang on forever, dreaming that where it's all headed will blow their mind. Spoiler alert: There will be no reveal. Like JJ Abrams' mystery box, the secret is that there's nothing of worth inside. They're selling you wrapping paper and an empty promise.
Ghost of Tsushima is the Assassin's Creed game that I want. I was a huge fan of the series until Sydicate. This game brought me that same feeling I had when I first played AC2.
I pretty much boycotted AC because they refused to go to Japan. I got suckered in for Odyssey because I love the peloponnesian war. But I won't buy another one. Ubisoft can develop an AC in Japan, it won't matter. Sucker Punch did this game justice to the point that developers/critics in Japan love it and wish they had done it. As for AC now, well the story sucks, the combat sucks, the artifacts of Eden and first civilization story aren't going anywhere, they didn't even conclude what happened with Juno or Minerva in a game (was released in a damn comic), their microtransactions are an insult, season passes are BS just give us the full game like GoT has done. The list can go on and on.
The Ubisoft of old is dead, instead replaced by an uglier piece of trailer trash. AC didn't need an RPG overhaul, what they did in Unity was perfect, but they had to change it because, money.
@@phoenixarising9809 Well Unity is style over substance and the protagonist is a SIMP. Only Origins was a worthy time after Black Flag, ironically made by the same game dev team.

One thing I love about this game that I don’t see many people talk about is the order you do the story gives you bonus dialogue in the side quests. I did a little less than half of the side quests before finishing the main story. And while doing the side quests, characters mention events of the main story and how it effects them. I’m sure if you do all the side quests first it’s different, I just thought that was cool.
I'm in love with this game. I completed this game with 100% trophies, and accidently overwrote my completed game. So now I'm playing over again from scratch and I completely love it. I heard about the hype but this time it's real. I just hope the story continues in the same way and intensity.
It's very cool how this game manages to make it feel like you're getting better at the game, alongside all the new stuff you get. I mean, in some games it just feels like your character is getting more powerful.. and sure, it's the same thing in this game too, but at the same time, I felt like I was the one progressing equal amounts. Even between any new skills, there was this learning curve where you clearly mastered a tool as well as your overall toolset again and again. Idk if I managed to explain it well tbh. But in short; The progression felt immensely satisfying and miraculously managed to keep it up unusually well through the entire game. Currently replaying the game on Lethal difficulty and it still keeps on being incredible. I love that the difficulty doesn't only make enemies hits more deadly, but yours as well, so it feels fair, but doubly deadly if facing numerous enemies.
I’ve never found myself buying a game and using it as a walking sim It’s so relaxing and I love it, I am currently in act three and doing the occasional side missions
Just that moment? And both ends as well... wow! I also wasnt ready for the lose of a friend... never ending story vibs. That isnt even it I could roll on the point is i loved all the characters and the people who were suffering in this conflict
That's why this story works and is a breath of fresh air in contrast to other "stories" that came out recently. It is a pure, blockbuster war epic in Feudal Japan with characters that are fully fleshed out and sympathetic as well as empathetic, especially when you learn of their back stories which handles dark and mature themes with care and nuance without being vulgar or blunt about it. And it happens to be satisfying by the end, with a raw yet powerful connective sync of gameplay and narrative working together to really make you a part of that story. Loved every minute of this game and appreciate it for introducing more people to actual historical events through the power of fictitious storytelling.
It’s so wild that Sucker Punch made a better Assassins Creed game than the actual studio behind AC, especially with the recent additions Ghost of Tsushima felt like the thing so many people have wanted for so long, just a different franchise
I'm playing through it right now and loving it! I can't stop gushing about how freaking beautiful this game is! And you're absolutely right about the swinging camera angles! It makes it a bit harder to fight but I just roll around in another direction so I don't get hit and problem solved.

@@maxrusty3596 I am not saying it's not its own thing, especially when the game have some original interesting features (wind system, stand off, haiku, kurosawa mode, etc), but I would be lying to myself if I do not admitted more similarity between Batman Arkham much more, which is a better comparison than some people who keep calling it AC Japan (which is gonna be very much different results especially with the new AC RPG stuffs, I can certainly said that). Here are some similarities with BA: + gameplay loop focusing on 2 big objectives, main story & supporting characters stories. Almost all BA games are like this especially with bat family & rogue galleries in BAK. + combat stances designed for enemies types, just like BA with batman gadgets & its enemies types, making a very engaging sword-dance combat. + story elements with Jin being a respectable samurai (high class) into the boogeyman of the island, "The Ghost," using fear as his ultimate weaponry. A silent guardian of tsushima. Also, ending is somewhat similar to TDK. None of this elements exist in AC games prominently. + Direct similarity with fear take down & chain assassination system including enemies AI fear system. It does not exist in AC games or not yet? + story themes about a code of honor, albeit it's in a totally different take & really fit with Samurai Romance story imo. + A villain army taking over the game map (city, town, island, etc), just like all BA games. + a straightforward platforming system, unlike AC games that really big & elaborate on parkour system. + Yuna is catwoman hehe (as both are thieves too).

Yes.. but The Enemies are harder on Hard Mode.. especially on Duel.

Wait what's wrong with GTA 4 in terms of this regard? I actually love the game, just curious lol
@@CLA82529 how many hours do you think you sunk in GTA 4?

The best mechanic of this game is the horse running beside you when you whistle for it.
Just stopped and realized thag the each of the stance buttons makes sense regarding the contexts in which they're used: the triangle is a the tip of a spear, the circle is a shield, the "X" is strike or slice of a sword or swords, and the square represents the "blocky" nature of a brute. Beautiful.

Ubisoft games: large open world with annoyance masked as quest and monetization/grinding
GOT: large open world with compelling missions and liberated areas that actually stay liberated, while you can still find patrols randomly, where you feel immersed and not grinding at all.
The list can go on and on.
i’ll never forget that ac2 title screen feel for the first time
The Ubisoft of old is dead, instead replaced by an uglier piece of trailer trash.

Jeremy grew up with ghosts
@Sujan Budhathoki That's the joke
Warning: This game may get you fired... Ive already called out "sick" like 2 times 😂😭
Chino Sparks 😂 lmao
@chino sparks just say you have rona, 2 weeks paid lol
I have controlled epilepsy and lied to my job that I had a seizure to get medical leave and play this game

I'm playing through it right now and loving it! I can't stop gushing about how freaking beautiful this game is! And you're absolutely right about the swinging camera angles! It makes it a bit harder to fight but I just roll around in another direction so I don't get hit and problem solved.
It's a masterpiece, one of my favourite games of all time.
I think this game have more similarity with "Batman Arkham" much more than "Assassin's Creed" games, both in story & gameplay standpoint.
@Tofu what's there to dislike for you?
@@crozraven I dont think he dislikes it but thinks its its own thing which i agree with.
It's pretty much an assassin's creed. The gameplay loop, abilities are very similar. It's way better than AC though. AC is souless like every ubisoft game.
Here are some similarities with BA:
+ gameplay loop focusing on 2 big objectives, main story & supporting characters stories.
@John U just focused on everything that the isnt different about the game its the overall presentation and how fun the gameplay is as a package that is awesome but hey u said it urself "u knew it was going to suck" so u never gave it a real chance. Sucks to be u.
I’m only in Act 2, but I am thoroughly impressed! Absolutely LOVING it!
"This game has consumed me"
Bro, your beard has consumed me!
Jeremy is one of the best reviewers ever. Love all of them.

Jeremy just needs a cane and he will look like Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight Rises.
Finally, after talking about it in other videos...
You're one of the few reviewers who pronounce Tsushima correctly (with the accent on the "u"). As someone from Japan, I can say that it doesn't grate on the ear like many others' pronunciation of it, which is good.
The “oh boy leftovers” was a great reference to a great movie “teenage mutant ninja turtles” KC JONES said it
Speaking of which, Jeremy should review Batman vs. TMNT at one point. There’s a LOT of Turtles movie, show and game references.
