Ok so get this. Dino Crisis, the game created to bring survival horror back to its roots, ended up going arcade action, and then when it came time to make a 3rd games, capcom decided to roll it into the Gun Survivor series. A spin off franchise under the Resident Evil banner. Man, talk about a confusing family tree! Well let's see if this light gun, dinosaur extinction simulator fits into the normal DC games.............it doesn't.

Anyone else think of that old Jurassic Park arcade rail shooter game at Chuck E Cheeses from the early 90s? Looks like this game would work better as a rail shooter in honor of that.
Also, glad to be supporting you Jared as long as you keep up the good work! Glad I listened to Jimmy Hapa and Super Derek's recommendations on other youtubers :D
I think you're right, this game would have been better if it fully commited to the rail shooter thing, or the fps thing. Not both. Also, big thanks for the support. Jimmy and Derek are the fucking best!
Never played that one, but I did love the rail shooter made for The Lost World Jurassic Park by Sega.
We had the same thought about making a comment like this.
Yes! I have played that game at a theme park, some random guy played the game with me even though I said no. I am still mad at that guy for ruining my no hit with high score streak.
Let's all just say that Tyrannosaurus Rex intro was awesome. But how dare they bring Dylan back and no mention of Regina.
Exactly!!!!!!!
Indeed, like wtf is this? No word from the MAIN character? At all!?!?
Capcom lost the plot I guess?
I've read something about that but I can't confirm its veracity. Apparently, Regina's face model used the badly written contract she had with Capcom to claim that portraying Regina was using her image and she had to be paid for every game she was featured. Since the issue wasn't resolved yet Capcom was forced to shelve Regina and not even mention her or they'd have to pay said model.
As I said, there's no proof of it, but it could explain why she vanished from Capcom's products for so long despite being a very popular character.
@@yoman8027 sad story
Dude, I love your videos and I wish that I could support you, but for the moment, I cannot. Thank you for the Amazing content.
6:42 I actually played this game to know what happened after Dino Crisis 2, and it brought some peace to my heart.
I enjoyed the hell out of this game way back in the PS2 era. Good times.
This is the only game of this series i've played, and i didnt know it was related to any series. I only used a controller because i never knew light guns existed. The game wasnt anything crazy or ground breaking but i enjoyed playing it.
Yeah, I can understand why you didn't know it was connected to DC. I agree. It's nothing special, but pretty fun overall.
It's really too bad Capcom couldn't just make traditional fps controls and instead tried something "experimental". It's like they're trying to reinvent the wheel when the wheels we already have work just fine. But yeah, l was thinking the same thing you mentioned - what even IS Dino Crisis at this point? Every game in the series is a different genre. This one looks fun, but doesn't seem to have a lot of replay value, so that's a dealbreaker for me.
Yeah, you hit it right on the head. After you finish this game, there's no real reward for a 2nd run.
Its a light gun game. I can't believe nobody is talking about this. This is a guncon game. The controls make sense when you understand that.
If you don't like light gun games, that's fine, but you can't really blame them for trying new things.
Ah, at least we still have one good Jared left ;^;
I honestly love how batshit insane the stories in many of Capcom's spin-off games are. Also, I can't help but wonder if the odd aiming controls are due to a large number of people in Japan suffering from motion sickness, even in a lot of standard FPS.
Also, I think I am the hipster nerd friend you described 😭
Shout outs to ThorHighHeels legendary Dino Crisis rant in his Dino Stalker review.
I knew someone else would find ThorHighHeels and quote his bizarre reviews
@@brianboniuk1072 his policenauts review is one of his best.
The aesthetic of this game is one of my favorite. The UI + HUD is beautiful and the combination of futuristic high-tech and natural environments are memorable as well.
Huh, didn't know this game existed... Is that Paula from DC2? It is? Good grief.
"do it Paula"
FBI open up!
HAAA!
Slightly unrelated, but Lost Planet 1 has a controller setting to move the reticle independently in a small area and it's lowkey the best feeling shooter controls I've ever felt on a controller.
Imagine a Dino Thingie done in the engine and style of Lostu Planetru
Well, better late than never. Good to see you, Mr. Jared.
Yeah, accidentally set it to pm and not am. Rookie mistake
Try playing this game on PCSX2 with a Sinden Light Gun..
The Sinden light gun makes all the PS2 guncon games waaaay more enjoyable
Great games for different reasons, I loved the second in particular except for the fecking underwater section.
I won't lie, I kind of liked the underwater section this time around. I used to hate it, but this playthrough, it kind of pulled me in.
@@AvalancheReviews Wow really? I personally can't stand underwater sections and this game along with Kotor were my least favourite sections in my top games of all time. Oh yeah and Sonic. That was the worst.
1:25 to skip the ads
Was that Steve's voice? You know, from Code Veronica?
I KEEEYYINT ... believe that if it's true!
Great video as always. Loving the jokes
Man those claims are no joke. I got hit with three over music in a game. So I've decided to halt my let's plays for a bit and just get some good reviews out there.
Yeah, they'll get you if they can.
Glad to see you're going all out with this series. I thought you were just gonna cover DC 1, 2 and 3.
I just played this game recently with the guncon, and your criticisms are pretty spot on. The game is rough, and the controls are sloppy either way, but once you get into the groove it is indeed a dumb enjoyable shooter. And if you're a lightgun fanatic like I am, it's really neat to play one you can move around in, this and the Resi Survivor games are just such fun unique games if you're willing to deal with some major bullshit.
Anyways I look forwards to the next Dino Crisis episode, it's great to finally see some one cover these games, and do it well.
Yeah, I always end up having fun with the gun survivor games.........except 2. Glad to provide a little well needed love to the Dino Crisis series!
I consider this the real DC3. The other one...doesn't exist in my eyes
Knew about Gun Survivor 3. Avoided the series cause of the dogshit controls... lack of a light gun... and M&K support. As someone who has a healthy tolerance for awkward controls that fact makes me sad. Next up is the one I've been looking forward to seeing you go through though. **chuckles evilly**
Yeah, I'm playing it now, and...........well I have a few hot takes. Don't you worry
@Avalanche Reviews Coulda been great... FFS Its DinoCrisis ins Space with Mutant Dinos. But they ****ing RUINED it with Dogshit Controls, camera, and level design that completely undermined EVERYTHING they were trying to do.
Dude, that sucks about the copyright strike. Honestly when I get out of near poverty, I'm more than willing to do your Patreon. Until then though, I hope you get some money from my frequent rewatches and I recommend your videos to my fellow nerds as well! 😁
Much appreciated man. I know what it's like to struggle with money. Even if you're never able to contribute to the patreon, I'll always appreciate you guys watching my videos and telling me what you think.
What the hell happened ?? May some person got jealous for youre video bro . but anyway your commentary in general is truly amazing bro
Weasel, please dont have a QQ intro. IDC!!!
So what's next after DC? It's not exactly the longest franchise on earth. Clock Tower? Fatal Frame?
Silent Hill, I hope)
You're one of the few RUclipsrs I still enjoy watching and offer great advice for games. Thanks for that.
I think I have this game, but I think Time Crisis was better. At least this one didn't kill the franchise like DC3.
Still hoping for a DC remake/rebirth.
I didn't even know this game existed until a few years ago
Can't wait to hear your take on Dino Crisis 3
I remember back in 2007 when I was getting back into gaming, after a few years of not really playing, I bought a copy of Dino Crisis 3 and wasn't too impressed with it
Even with that ridiculous plot, this game still seems better than Dino Crisis 3 lol.
I love your restrospective videos, I'd really love seeing a Silent Hill one and maybe a Fatal Frame retrospective too.
Glad you like em! I will definitely cover the SH series. Easily one of my favorite franchises of all time. As for Fatal Frame, I'm not as interested in those games, but to be honest, I only ever played the first one, and not for that long. I do want to revisit the series, so there's a good chance that they might end up on the list of series I want to cover.
@@AvalancheReviews Nice! I am super hyped about what you have to say about the Silent Hill series :D
I think the first Fatal Frame is one of the weakest entries in the series (especially with its poor, but hilarious voice acting lol), but Fatal Frame 2 and 3 are pretty good, I am not too fond of Nintendo's Fatal Frame games though lol.
Yeah, looks like a fun experience, and that is it, experience. If only CAPCOM take some time to, put some heart in this project. When your game start to behave like a chameleon, you know it have some problems.
10:55 I wish I had a friend like that... wait, _I'm_ that friend!
Be proud of that!
this game was a trip, rented it one week and couldnt stop playing. reminded me of the jurassic park arcade games but you control your character not just the gun
Dino Stalker: My Daughter is Also My Daughter's Mom
... Lol that was in poor taste. What kind of freak would look at those characters like that in a time travel scenario...
...
That sums it up perfectly!
I cannot be subjective to say _Dino Stalker_ is worse in storytelling or voice-over material. Objectively, it's the less impacting of its series. But is leagues above other arcade platforms previ of it, e.g., Jurassic Park III or CarnEvil. For a home-arcade release, it's decent where the execution leads itself existentially. But it's shucks if the gameplay ain't gospel.
Back at it once again, nice work Jared!
I feel the same with this as the Dead Aim spinoff in RE, just a serviceable light gun shooter with a cheap plot and janky controls (no surprise, both belong to the Gun Survivor series) though I beat both with relative ease (does this support mouse?)
Anyways, now it's time to cover the unholy grail, the franchise killer, also known as Dino Crisis 3, can't wait to see how that goes for ya.
That's the first thing i thought to check, and no sadly no mouse support. At least not on the Japanese release. Yeah, I'm writing the script for the 3rd game right now. I think this is going to be a good one.
I collect for the PS2 but i don't have any light gun games because they only work on a CRT tv and i don't have one.
Other than that this looks pretty good.
What music did you use for the intro at 2:43? I haven't played a Dino Crisis game yet so I don't know if you used music from the game.
It's from Dino Crisis 2's intro.
@@AvalancheReviews Thanks a ton
No problem!
My buddies and I LOVED this game back in the day. I just had a 19" TV and I had to get an RF adaptor to use this gun.
www.amazon.com/CyberGun-Desert-Eagle-Pistol-PlayStation/dp/B009BY3WXI.
This gun was poop but it had a recoil that was so cool. Look at the D pad on the side. That is what you used to move with and this game had tank controls where up was forward. We could always do pretty well since the TV was so small and since the game was so short we'd usually speed run it to see who had the fastest time.
12:02 Haha.."Pitch black tyrannosaurus" It's both terrifying and hilarious.
👎 Starts by begging for money and complaining about RUclips. If I wanted a PBS promo I'd turn on the F'n TV... 😒
I feel like this could’ve worked in the 360/PS3 days compared to the PS2/Original XBOX era mainly if this was a arcade cabinet release at movie theaters and Dave and Busters. Hell, motion controls on the Wii weren’t perfect but they sold like hot cakes and this could’ve been a good Wii title and made use of the Kinect and PlayStation Move as well[better this than wasting FromSoftware on Steel Battalion:Heavy Armor].
With some tweaking, this could’ve been a fun light gun game. But as bad of a decision Capcom made on Dino Stalker[which I realize is a terrible name and should’ve been called something else], what happened to Dino Crisis 3 might’ve been worse.
What's the game @1:03?
I didn't even know that Dino Stalker's plot was tied with "Dino Crisis 2". I steered clear of it back in the day as I was never a fan of the Gun Survivor spin-offs - even though I only tried the original once (I wasn't impressed), I did spend a few pounds on GS 2 in an arcade in London back in 2002 (not very fun) and I never played "Dead Aim", which might be a cardinal sin for a self-proclaimed die-hard Resident Evil fan.
Years ago in 4th grade I had a Jurassic park dream, I was fighting a carnotaur and the hud was similar to this game. I didn’t play this game until last year!
Damnation and Vendetta
You know what I hate in modern survival horror? Shitty, unrealistic guns. Dino Crisis 2 was rather good on this regard, with punchy weapons and not too many tanky enemies.
In resident Evil on ps1, I can understand the technical limitations, so I'm not talking about that. My problem is with 6th gen and after, where there's enough power, but they still make a 9mm work like a pea shooter.
Should we warn him about DC3?
Nah it will be fun to watch him suffer.
And here I thought Dino Crisis 3 looked cheesy and campy. Kinda glad I missed this. Also, is Galerians ever going to appear? It's not Capcom, but it's still a survival horror. Just a thought.
I seen this at a local retro game store for thirteen dollars and held it in my hands wondering if I should get it. I got resident evil 2 remake instead but I wanna go back and see if it's still there
If you don't mind puzzles and survival then the first is fantastic, if you prefer action and constant shooting which is much easier then go for it instead. Or both! But stay away from DC3! 🤮
Since you have a disk maybe try emulation on a computer. I feel like PCSX2 has a mode for tricking games into thinking your mouse is a light gun.
Playstation Move and Wiimote controllers can also be setup with PC emulators if your willing to do the research online.
I actually have a copy that I never got around to trying this with. maybe I should go find it and give it a shot.
I'm one of those friends sadly, if someone pulled up a Dino Stalker copy i'd be all like ''yooo''. But yeah, playing it with a light gun is a blast actually, no clue why some people said that controller is preferable? Like, what? As someone that played it both ways, one on my ps2 as a teen with a borrowed light gun and the other with an emulator during my own marathon of dino crisis, it's super more fun with the gun, but the controller is fine, you get used to it.
Also Steve 2.0 is still steve, so he bad, Paula is still cute tho', cuter in the art, her hair looks off here for some reason, granted, ps2 didnt like hairs too much.
Dino Crisis 3-because going to space worked with Jason, Hellraiser, and the fraggin' Leprechaun.
i like thic chanel
But obscure games are cool . . . (though it helps if they're actually good)
Dude please do final fantasy ❤❤
So it's not out yet, but there's going to be a patreon going up for a light gun that works near flawlessly on lcd tv's, working prototype and all. Think you'll ever go back with something like that and give these games a try again, should that whole project succeed?
Plot wise, I need a drink. No completely terrible but i need a drink. Gameplay wise, it looks like a fun play after fiddling with the controls a bit....
I'm late because I was watching the new ghost recon reveal. Otherwise you damn well know I would've been here on time 😂
Well, I accidentally put it out late, so you're actually right on time.
Aparently this is the 3rd biohazard gun survivor for the people from japan.
Be honest I rent play Turok nandez game your talk about Turok are talk about that game research was based off a comic book but still it's still a good shooting gave you kill dinosaurs
Yay it's ring of red!......oh wait I was wrong. But soon I won't be
I actually DID pass out from trying to make sense of the story....so theres that.
underrated channel
Thanks man!!!
sorry if someone else asked this, but didn't you try the mouse option for this game or did you forget to check that(as we've learned on the other PS2 shooters)?
You're going beast mode on these videos, baby. Sending my love, keep it up!
Thanks baby girl! Although, I'm still walking funny after the last time you "sent me your love"
I had no idea this game existed! I thought there was only 3 Dino crisis games
best thing of this game is that they did the scare-factor of the giant dinos so fucking right (not perfect but stupidly great). i remember playing this when i was a kid and the carnotauruses' roar were terrifying and you can imagine the horror of meeting the actual boss of the game which is the t rex.
it's not the reticle is independent, wii games with mouse are still great. it's that it is neither. half here half there
I'm looking at this and really. What the fuck were they thinking? XD
Quick question: can this game be played with a mouse like Dead Aim?
damn, Gun Survivor II sucked that bad??? I love Claire
I would guess the reason this was made is because a lot of people would buy it thinking they are getting the Dino Crisis on a next gen console.
Dino Crisis is like Dinosaurs everyone has their own idea of what they are; I mean first they were thought to be dragons by people of the past, then the general idea they were related to modern reptiles and now we know they have most in common with birds
Dino Stalker nostalgia to those summer in the 4th grade 👌🏾💯 loved it.
Maybe a stupid request but, Silent Hill Retrospective series???
Can we please have a dead space retrospective?? My favorite survival horror franchise needs more love on this website
Heeeeeey welcome back!
Cheers and more power
Justin from the Philippines
Cheers man!!! Thanks for the love!
Still wayyy better than DC3. Arguably the true third installment.
4:10 Spoilers?
Oh, no. Not for games two decades old. The horror.
This is the closest we will likely ever get to a true Dino Crisis 3.... story wise... yea....
great video! great channel! keep up, man!
The 3 people that dislike this video are come from Capcom...
I knew this game exists but I had no idea it's actually part of the Dino Crisis deries, lol.
I'm not surprised. They didn't do a lot to advertise it as part of the series.
Speaking of obscure hipster games, you should try Shadow of Destiny aka Shadow of Memories if you haven't. I literally bought it because there's an ad for it on the back of the Ring of Red manual.
I remember renting it once way back in the day, but I don't remember much about it. I know a bit more thanks to a few reviews, but I would like to jump back in at some point.
Sounds like an interesting game at least, though not on the level of the 1st two games. Great coverage despite you not having much background info to work with haha.
Onto Dino Crisis 3! Yay....?
I wanted to know how it was with a lightgun tho... heard it was an okay lightgun game
Despite of being a game with mix results, this is the true Dino Crisis 3.
This is the creme of the crop of pre-mocap jankanimation.
Spoilers:
I honestly can't believe that time travel is a thing in the Dino Crisis universe. I didn't know that until watching these vids, and it just seems kinda weird to me. Like if time travel existed in the RE games. I suppose I could just sort of ignore it like I do with the first 2 Terminator movies lol.
Yeah, most people focus on the Dinos, but there's a pretty heavy time travel angle.
This is the closest game we ever got to the home console port of The Lost World arcade shooter.
This game is kinda like Time Crisis with Dinosaurs on a rail shooter but this one looks hella fun. I don't remember this game at all growing up. I enjoy the dino crisis retrospective so far, keep it up man. Looking forward to the next video Jared.
Thanks man! Working on the DC3 video right now, and I think it's gonna be a good one.
You forgot to talk about how excited the game was overall i.e the different environments for missions, the mystery
Parasite Eve 2 sound? ^_^
Is there a way to support your channel besides patreon?
Nice.
I have this game but never played it.
I really wish I could support creators like you but college here in USA has left me pretty dry on spare cash. Regardless though you make great videos and I hope you grow and get to continue.
I know how rough that can be. I went back to college 2 years ago to finish my BA (only 21 credits left currently). I'm paying out of pocket so I can only afford 3 classes per semester. That shit is no joke! Most expensive thing you can do right now, is go to college. Honestly though, your view and comments go a long way in supporting me as well. Trust me, it does not go unappreciated.
I really like your videos and I can recommend to you Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare for the PS1 or 2. (Although I think the PS1 Soundtrack is better) It's a great survival Horror game and has everything in it, that we Love.
Why not just take down the videos and prevent them from getting the monetized video? Re-upload an entirely redacted version that has a disclaimer in it that you had to remove XYZ because of Sony even though it's fair use and provide the original as an unlisted video to Patreons.
They flagged the footage from the film. I re uploaded it twice with a few tweaks to maybe make it less easy for the algorithm to flag, but no dice. I feel like Sony would only be happy with a review of their movie, that includes no footage of the movie.
