- Tell Me About Yourself - It’s not a rendition of your resume // In this video, I will teach you the tell me about yourself job interview answer so you can stand out in front of hiring managers and land more job offers.
You will learn that it’s a 1 - 2-minute long talk on your differentiator is the single most important thing that sets you apart from anyone else? A compelling story: Your Value-Added Proposition (VAP).
Ground Rules to Know Before I Share the Tell Me About Yourself Answer Sample:
When they ask you to tell me about yourself in the interview it is critical that you do not talk about your personal/family life but instead focus on your professional background and credentials.
Secondly, remember to tell a story. Not a lifelong story, but your professional work story consisting of your work experiences, qualifications and why you’re a good fit for this role.
I will give you the process to create Value Added Proposition Pitch which includes:
What Defines Your Benefits to the organization
• What: Create your “What can you do for me?” VAP statement
• Define: Define the need or opportunity. That is, what strengths you bring to the organization?
• Your: Develop a statement of your primary differentiator. Your differentiator is the single most important thing that sets you apart from anyone else
• Benefits: List the benefits you can bring to the organization
Watch the video and now you know how to approach THIS interview question, do you know if your resume is good enough to even land the interview in the first place?

Just because I viewed your RUclips video, a couple of hours before my telephone interview, it enabled me to hold my own during the scheduled interview, and now the guy wants to meet with me for the final leg of this hiring process !😊👍🏿
OUTSTANDING! Please let me know the outcome.
did you get the job
Followed this recommendation and, got the job. I was hired on the spot. I was very surprised because i had been through several interviews and failed all. I hadn't a clue what i was doing wrong, until I saw this video. Thank you very much!!!
Sherryl Ann Grant pls can u tell me how u answer ur question
Tell me about it. Who knows how many job opportunities I got passed upon because. I never understood this trick question. SMH.
Congrats
To be honest I think it depends on the person personality who interviews you. I remember being asked that same question for my first REAL JOB. A week later I called to speak with the interviewer and asked him for feedback on my interview and what did he thought of my interview. During the interview I Simply talked about my achievements how I could apply it to the job, my weakness strength, team player, what i could offer to their clients and what i like to do on my spear time... He suggested I should have mentioned my siblings and where I grew up at. However, I still got the job but I think by me calling him and asking that question helped me out including my prayer. It's so hard these days to really know what to say cause everyone has different personalities.. To me mentioning about my siblings and family has nothing to do with the job. Some just want to be nosey. I had an interviewer ask me one time was I raised by both parents now what does that has to do with the job.
@@Kora_adventures thankyou!! No problem I totally understand and yeah stick to what you know and I pray you get the job.
@@Kora_adventures Aww, thankyou! ❤
CECE'S WORLD Really? Was this in North America? Why would an interviewer want to invade your privacy? They are not allowed to ask those questions.
@@Jj-rq9sp Yeah North America at a law enforcement agency... I ended up turning the job down anyway. Just felt a bad vibe.

I know you're in heaven Darnell. You were always a cut above all the rest.

Awesome video by Darnell! I get asked this question a lot, and I always tell people to talk about:
1. Your relevant past (don't go into your entire childhood). If it's a marketing gig, talk about your college studies and that internship or project you've been working on.
2. How that past has led to your interest in this position. Be specific about why it's such a great fit for you.
3. How you plan to help the company and be successful in this role. Make sure you're knowledgeable on the topic! It always helps to talk with people in the industry first.
Always keep your answer to 3 minutes max! No one wants to hear someone drone on and on about themselves, especially at the beginning of an interview. Keep it as conversational as possible.
That is a great idea. "Results Oriented, dependable, accountable." I'm going with it. Thank you
Hello Dan, thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate more than you know. Go for it!

Great tools for a successful interview in creating opportunity to stand out! I've always felt like interviews are competitive and it's about marketing yourself. When I'm being interviewed for a position; I always expound on my abilities, capabilities, and strengths as it relates to the position I'm being interviewed for you. Over two years ago, I entered back into the job market seeking opportunities outside of my licensened profession that I have been in for 11years. Let me tell you, it was rough and I truly saw how extremely competitive this whole process is. I had to completely revamp my resume to be suitable for entering back into the job market and I really had to give a great deal of thought as to what it was I wanted to do. Thus far I have been successful
, I concentrated on obtaining leadership positions such as Team Lead, Shift Supervisor, and Management. I'm currently a Shift Supervisor at a pediatric facility. However I'm back to hitting hard on the job hunt as I will be relocating to another city and I want to have that same success and to go beyond what I have achieved over the past two years. Your video has given me much insight, great advice, and information for where I currently am right now. Thank you so much for sharing and I look forward to sharing my success story using the tools that you have provided. Peace and Blessings~
Hey Michelle, thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know. Make sure you discover your true Godly purpose in life and in your career. And pursue it until you die. Nothing else matter. God Speed!

Hey Toni, thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know.
6:58 Well, of course, Mr. Clarke is intelligent and can answer these questions this man has degrees in Computers which are very analytical jobs.
Anyone who is a lawyer, Computers, Mathematics, Scientist, Sales, have a step above average people because of the high level of skills you acquire which helps in your everyday function as well! At least, in my opinion, you will have to improve vocabulary as this man and be able to handle interviews and communication better of course!
The rest of us regular people can get there but it takes passion for that goal, pratice of course to increase your creative thinking along with experiences!!!
Hey Dominique, thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate them more than you know.

@@kyzkyz5019 - Take it as a learning lesson! It has at least given you an idea as to what questions they ask in general for "job interviews" and for future reference just practice! Brain storm if you can, gather your thoughts, put them down in a paper, record your voice if you can, memorize it so you don't go blank, but make sure you don't sound monotone! Practice out loud and practice enough until you feel confident 👍 sometimes is best to have your general Q & As ready prior to applying so it makes it easier! Watched you "Tell me about yourself" and loved the perspective. Wish I had met up with you 40 years ago as I was going thru countless interviews that I didn't feel worked for me at the time. One gift God gave me in life was a sense of humor which has helped me get past those situations where some "situation/thing" just didn't work out well. So I really smiled when (without my pressing anything on my computer) the next video started playing and it was all about "How to answer 'Tell me about yourself' " and it told me in detail how to answer this question by carefully planning my "Elevator Pitch". The great thing I learned about myself and interview approaches I have given is that I pretty-much consistently responded as an "elevator" guy which rarely made me feel very comfortable during the rest of MANY interviews. Sad. Here is the link to which I refer that might make someone else (or you DC) smile as well AFTER listening to you (Darnell). Best wishes to all on your own journeys. Not being negative about her video since there are really important occasions when you only have 15 seconds. The "elevator" worked very well for me when I was in downtown Sacramento one evening at a bus stop and former California Governor Pete Wilson passed by. My 15 second two-way conversation provided a pleasant exchange and a lasting memory for me. "How-to-do-an-elevator" link -> ruclips.net/video/MmFuWmzeiDs/видео.html
Amazing... thanks Darnell... I recently had a telephone interview and I sold my differently from the conventional way of answering this question and it paid off 🙏🏿

Really really good advice. I just passed an interview and got hired but I'm still wanting to learn what I could have done even better, and this is one of those things. I was a little fluffy in my "tell me about yourself" response. Next time I'll make it shorter, and have a more direct message that tells them what I can do for them.
Hi Darnell, I am so happy that I came across your video. I listened to it several times because there were some really good points that were just for me. I have an interview next week and I plan to implement some of this information. You are very knowledgeable and I thank you for showing me how important it is to follow the V.A.P. format and not a three minute elevator pitch. I have to get to work on writing down the benefits that I bring to the agency that I am applying to. Thanks for helping me to remember the strengths that I have and how useful they are.
