Hey Debo. Try netting the fish next to you and leaving the net and fish in the water and hold the net handle under your leg so you have 2 free hands to pull him up out of the net.
A few more trips out in the yak, and you wonder why you waited so long to get one. It takes time to get used to it. I've learned to cast side arm so I don't hit the rods behind me. Looking forward to more yak vids.
[sing to the tune of Gilligan's Island - many of you, Debo included, can sit this one out] Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale. A tale of a feeshin' trip, that happened out in Iowa, To a bearded dude that's hip. He used to fish out of a yak Made of aluminum, But then he bought this Native boat, and found out that it's fun. He might have lost a feesh or two, But he caught them how he likes. Just wait until the first time that He catches a yak pike! He'll frog! He'll pitch! He'll throw a ned! He'll even fish a jig. Join us next, dear Feeshin' Friends, And we'll watch Debo catch a pig!
Having a fish get wrapped around the pedal drive is an experience. I had a smallie just kinda stuck there a few years ago, lol. Luckily I was able to pull him up through the drive hole! Happy you're able to get out on the yak and smash a few!
I honestly can say one of the biggest downfalls of kayak fishing is loading and unloading all the gear. It takes me 25 mins to either load or unload all my equipment. It starts to get old after a while.
A successful maiden voyage! Seems like there should be rod holders that hold the rods at about a 45 degree angle, to help prevent hitting the rods on a backswing.
Great first trip for the Yak Debo. If you hook a giant, they will probably pull you around for a bit. The fact that you caught several with lots of other guys on the water tells me you are way above the average angler. I believe you will do great when you get used to the setup and I look forward to seeing them.
Really nice to see you excited about the first trip out in the kayak and then seeing you even more excited about catching your first fish in it. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you finally got a yak and no dinks! I've been doing great with a red Cotton Cordel lipless from Wally World. I use a 7' stakeout pole and an anchor trolly and small anchor, but I'm usually just floating along and paddling to stay in position. Wind is your worst enemy on a kayak. Be careful and have a blast!
I like to carry only the essentials in the kayak. Ill throw plastics in a zipper bag and the hard lures in a hard case. A milk crate helps keep them organized. It also limits what you can carry so you aren't bringing too much. I love and hate the kayak, it gets you off the bank but it's also a hassle. Good workout but hate paddling into the wind after a long hot day.
Congrats on your new yak! Want one so bad, but a big guy in a yak in South Florida, has gator bait written all over it!!! Oh, and carefull DEBO, you seem to have some FANS, Only not wearing their feeshin' togs!
You pretty much experienced most of the cons of kayak fishing. You said it. Kayak fishing is sometimes 80% fixing boat position. Wind drives that percentage up. My favorite strategy for dealing with position is to put the ass end of the kayak into the wind. Then you can just slowly but continuously peddle backwards. Second to that is getting a proper anchor setup. Third thing for you to try is a drag chain. When you get into current a windsock can help. I refuse to do any vertical rod storage. You will inevitably hook your line or another rod when casting. You can snap a rod like that. Your kayak has horizontal storage. Maybe think about using it. And look into the yak gadget rod stager. One of the biggest benefits of a kayak is you can float over to wherever you're snagged and usually free up your bait. Keep a lure knocker in the boat and/or get the Bending Branches paddle with the hook remover section. I'm happy for you brosef. Strap that rig on top the vehicle and come down to San Antonio. Let's do some feeshin.
Nice video Dee! Those lipless cranks are great in March and April here in Ohio. Multi species lure. I would put the fish finder on the left side but thats my opinion, I'm no kayak expert. Buy a Ketch board and definitely put a leash on it. I already lost one.
Nice trip out on the kayak I’m sure you’ll get more accustomed to it and be slamming the dinks in no time!! We’re finally getting out Tomorrow weather permitting! Keep the yak videos coming!!
Good video. When I switched from being a bank angler to a pedal-drive kayak angler there was so much to get used to, kind of like learning to walk again! Definitely want to see more future videos in the kayak.
I was catching them on guntersville last week ripping it through the grass. I used one of those booyah lipless hard knockers that lure net painted last year. Not sure of the actual color. Sure was a fun bite.
Like to see the kayak content! There is definitely a learning curve. There will be some struggles. But it’s worth it! I did snicker when you caught the rod behind you. 😅 I had just installed some high speed bearings in my oldest reel last year and on my first trip out with it I snagged my anchor chute and did a high speed backlash. 😂
I was so stoked when I saw the Debo Kayak Video and man the Maiden Voyage a 4 pounder and kept your Bag dry I call success on that. I swear I saw Hawkeye Socks lol and I think the weather may have moved the Fish to deeper water and believe I read that somewhere. I’m just happy you got the Yak out my friend. Still need a cool name lol with Stubby in there somewhere.
Nice video on fishing in your kayak, also really nice fish you caught on your crankbait. Thanks for sharing and showing the crankbait you used in this video. First time watching, I will definitely watch more!
Nice way to christen the new 'Yak. No dink, nice catch mate. 😆"I said a lot of words after that, but they weren't fit for a video..." I have a lot of that footage myself, lol. Yesterday was a nice big rainbow I dropped on the first jump it took. "Oh NO!" was followed by some stuff that probably stunned the kangaroos, wombats and platypuses with its virulence.
I’ve been kayak fishing for years now and my kayak is a bare bones stock paddle kayak no gear tracks or anything and I like it just fine, it’s is a bear to load and unload though 13 foot yak isn’t very light lol wheels would be nice but I just drag it, probably will drag a hole in the bottom eventually but such is life for me lol
I remember my first and second trip out on my new yak. Caught 1 first trip, skunked 2nd trip and went back to bank fishing for the entire year 😂 definitely a learning curve
@@DEBOSFishing I was blown around East harbor Lake Erie but I have a folding up 3lb anchor. I need a 5 lb ball anchor from wizard anchor. I should be getting a Native Slayer propel 10ft this fall so I shouldn't need trolley
You'll figure it out. unless you are catching smallies, no need for net, we lip all of the largemouths. and even just side gill pike when we catch them.
Sounds like you turned a couple teeth on the gear. May be able to lightly file the bad spot back to normal. Finding the bad spot is the fun part lol. Luckily those gears aren't to expensive if you have to replace one. You can get then cheaper on a over seas site over a American site. Aliexpress has some that's not to bad priced.
@@tims_always_fishing7117 I know I just rebuilt a shimano lol. Aliexpress has the gears cheaper than anyone state side though. Just takes 4 or 5 days longer to get recieved.
Does it look like it holds true , that you catch bigger fish from a watercraft then from shore , just because you have access to more fish able spot ? Cast farther
Still prespawn in Iowa? And is this your first yak? ‘Cause if it is, beware of an insidious affliction commonly referred to as “Pimp your yakitis.” I’m in the process of trying to create a 12 step program for those of us with $1,000 plastic boats with $5,000 of shite hanging off of ‘em.

I'm a huge fan of Lipless. I throw them all year long, switching colors sounds and size to find out what they'll chase. And Chase they will.
Just when I thought life couldn’t get any better - Debo in a Yak. Can’t wait to watch you brother.
Having a fish get wrapped around the pedal drive is an experience. I had a smallie just kinda stuck there a few years ago, lol. Luckily I was able to pull him up through the drive hole! Happy you're able to get out on the yak and smash a few!
And in 6 to 8 feet of water, a cheap, home made stake out pole is my go to.
I honestly can say one of the biggest downfalls of kayak fishing is loading and unloading all the gear. It takes me 25 mins to either load or unload all my equipment. It starts to get old after a while.
The rod set in a yak is still something I struggle with. Especially for frogs. Can’t wait to see how you do frogging out of the yak!
A successful maiden voyage! Seems like there should be rod holders that hold the rods at about a 45 degree angle, to help prevent hitting the rods on a backswing.

Really nice to see you excited about the first trip out in the kayak and then seeing you even more excited about catching your first fish in it. Thanks for sharing.
Of course more kayak videos! I broke two fury’s overhand casting in the yak. Pretty sure that’s like a right of passage to kayak fishing.

Definitely do a full setup vid of the yak!
Glad you had fun and didn’t lose anything! Be careful! Nice catches!

GO HAWKS!

Perfect timing, just got back from catching some feesh, now a ViDebo!!!
Super happy for you Debo. Definitely going to make for a great summer!
Congratulations on the new yack !! Keep on fishing
You’ll learn the lil things on the Yak lol takes a second to get used to where to put everything
I did not see you roll that yak once ! I would consiser that a big win !! thanks Devon, yeah, like some yak stuff.
That's the sole issue I was basing success on for this trip. Catching fish was icing on the cake 🤣🤣🤣
Nice trip out on the kayak I’m sure you’ll get more accustomed to it and be slamming the dinks in no time!! We’re finally getting out Tomorrow weather permitting! Keep the yak videos coming!!
Not a yak guy, but I wish you well. Hopefully you enjoy it, and catch a lot of fish. ✌️😎🎣

Kayak Debo !! Let's go!!
Thats a nice looking park!
Great video Debo. I doubt my first kayak trip would near as well. If I ever get a fishing kayak.

Looking forward to the set up & rigging I'm going through the same process . Thanks for sharing Debo !
Awesome to see kayak videos!
More kayak videos!
Awesome! Definitely need more yakking videos! I've been out a couple of times on an entry level yak, but haven't caught anything 😕
kayak fishing definitely is something you have to get used to and cost me a few rods.. i always forget about the rods behind me and even my paddle,
Good job on your first trip

Just be happy you snag trees bro. I snag 10 ft alligators all the time. Nothing like thinking youre on a log and then it takes off on you 😂
Awesome. Glad to see you fishing
Roll casting is your friend in a yak. If you have your extra rods sticking up behind you it is a must.
I remember my first and second trip out on my new yak. Caught 1 first trip, skunked 2nd trip and went back to bank fishing for the entire year 😂 definitely a learning curve
Great video. After seeing this video exclusively looking for a pedal drive. Seems like it allows more ease at maintaining position.
I like the yak videos! Bank videos are what i can certainly relate to more!
Great job, brother. i never thought if see the day, i was waiting for you start drop shoting😅
Yak attack anchor trolley comes in handy on mine for positioning
Those trolleys are really nice when the wind kicks in
I got one and its a HUGE headache saver!
@@DEBOSFishing I was blown around East harbor Lake Erie but I have a folding up 3lb anchor. I need a 5 lb ball anchor from wizard anchor. I should be getting a Native Slayer propel 10ft this fall so I shouldn't need trolley
Check out the yak attack stake out pole of you want a really simple ancoring system for the yak. Big game changer.
Nice video nice fish you caught don't know if the kayak thing is for me or not I might spend more time upside down
Congrats Debo on the Yak feeesh! Thanks for sharing your 1st steps on the Yak. I would love to see more of your Yak lessons. Great stuff
The first trip or two are a little weird, but you'll be standing in no time !
Good luck Debo, I love my Titan !

Going out tomorrow, I’m throwing a lipless now!
No dinks fishing from the yak. Hoping to see more.
hey debo if you have a ollie’s bargain outlet near you take a look at their fishing section it’s very slept on and they have some steals👊🏽
Great video you will get the hang of the kayak and then look out you’re going to be a dink slayer
Oh always turn into a large wake, don't be sideways !
Yay!! A yak videbo!!
Does it look like it holds true , that you catch bigger fish from a watercraft then from shore , just because you have access to more fish able spot ? Cast farther
Yes but what was the total inches for the day. Glad you had a good time.
I love fishing a lipless . I'm having a similar issue with my curado ,please give an update on how you fix it. Greasing didn't help me.
I'm guessing I'll need to order a new main gear or pinion. Slight bend or chip can cause that sound
Serious question, why did you switch hands so many times in the beginning?
Ha. You said grinder.

How fitting for me to be first commenter
First
1st dink and no swimming
Definitely not Debo dinkfest for you
