This is the type of album that needs a few spins to grow on you. The more you listen to it, the more addicted you get. It's a timeless fucking gem.

He's not in the actual band, he's a very good friend of them, and was the one who designed and created the intro to this number, as a guest work. I do believe his name is in the credits of the CD, but I'm not sure.

King Diamond is a genius! His extensive repertoire in terms of quality and quantity is sublime, extraordinary, and The Candle is one of his greatest masterpieces.
I was 12 when my dad took me to see him, and I was never the same.
Although a lot of people disagree with me, but I think Fatal Portrait is one of King Diamond's best albums. The song compositions are a work of art.

This was the one that started it all for me. The first time I heard King Diamond sing. He has been my favorite vocalist ever since. This is also my favorite KD song. Long live the King!!!

I was just woke up to pop music being played, as it felt nightmarish, I did what any normal person would do: go outside in the freezing cold and blast king diamond. Now I'm awakened and I feel much better. Thanks king diamond. Your a life saver!

One of my favorite albums of the 80's, and my fav King Diamond lp too. Fucking awesome intro with the keyboards. Really gothic and haunting sounding, it really inspires you. One of the best damn intro's I've ever heard.

I was there , 1986 Cleveland Ohio, Peabodys , The King opened with this song his back to the crowd candles lit bone cross microphone upright and at the 1:33 point of the intro he let go of the cross and it swung upside down under his wrist , One of the many scenes of his many shows i will never forget and of course all the hot babes with upside down cross earrings Those where the days !

Yamaha dx7 [tub bells]. So many metal bands and other genres of music used it in the 80s. That Fallen Angel intro from Possesed, Danzig's Samhain band. the list goes on. The sound of an era.

it really is the sound of an era, along with so many other dx7 patches! the dx still gets used to this day by a lot of sound designers. that classic yamaha fm sound is still brand new when programmed right. i love it!
KUPHSER Some rappers nowadays still use songs with DX7 tub bells. Check out Future - Real Sisters and Cage - Lamb of Nothing. Even the 1999 Funimation anime dub of DBZ had DX7's.
It took about a year of listening to Abigail for it to get old then it was tossed aside. I thought my love for king was over then I learned what was beyond a story of a greedy Demond child. It's songs like this that make me an eternal king diamond fan.
You should listen to Abigail again........still a great album.
I agree but that's ALL I listened to for about a year so for now I'd rather stick to other albums.
The first 4 Mercyful Fate albums, especially the first two. Check those out.
