Judas Priest - Heart of a Lion

- "We actually created that song here in the Valley - I think we were working at Chaton Studios when we were doing the TURBO sessions. We kind of kicked it around here, then we went to a bunch of other places, but that song was created here in the Valley, and it's just one of these little diamonds that kind of escapes the pile.
"In determining what gets on a record and what doesn't, you just look and especially for a moment like this, you think of everything, and somebody goes, 'Whatever' to this song you did, and this 'Heart Of A Lion' track has just been always on the back burner, especially with the Priest fans: 'What is this song? We've heard the title, blah, blah...', so now it's time to include it."
Rob Halford-2004
lyrics:
Crashing through the city streets
Caught in the glare of the midnight sun
I've got wings upon my feet
But locked as I run
Now you're just a breath away
From knocking me senseless to the ground
No escape I hear you say
You're never safe - from a
Heart of a lion
My heart of a lion
I close my eyes, I see your face
It seems like I'm gripped within your spell
Will I ever win this race?
You're moving in
Hear my name cried from the sky
There is a stillness that cuts the air
In your hold I know that I
Will never find the love - of a
All around I hear the sound
Of your mighty roar
As I give I find that
You are calling out for more
All around I hear the sound
Of your mighty roar
As I give I find that
You are crying
Cold heart of a lion Видеоклипы
The absolute best heavy metal voice ever.
Sorry but that's Dio, although Halford is amazing also.
Dio is close, and an absolute legend, but Halford at his peak--circa 1976-84--was better than Dio. Better. Higher register, slightly more metal. Your mileage may vary and I respect that, but I maintain that no one can touch peak Halford.
I think Halford's vocal peak was absolutely in 1988--the live recordings from the Mercenaries of Metal Tour are mindblowing.
Dorcas Meadowes Can you send me some links of that???
+TheMetalWarrior1993 Just watch the Miami 1988 version of Sinner, for example. It's incredible.
This song is so underrated
This song should have been fully recorded and put on Defenders. Easily a contender on the track listing.
It was really well engineered on Halford's Insurrection album.
@@955472love that album!
Always thought this was Racer X song (with Scott Travis on Drums) … had no idea it was originally Priest.
The song probably wasn't even written when Defenders was recorded. It would have been a great addition to Ram It Down though.
The way halford sings that "Heeaart...Heart of a lion..." part is so good
The only thing missing on his solo band's studio version (and Glenn's lead break)
How this track never made it on any album I'll never know.
Sounds like something that would have been from the Turbo album.
@@professorgenki5959 You're right on, they actually did record it for Turbo. They discarded it because they felt like it didn't fit with the rest of the album and Halford gave it to Racer X's singer Jeff Martin as a gift
You are wrong dude. This song was recorded during their DOTF sessions
@@davidknichal6629 I've researched this extensively, it's definitely from Turbo. You can tell for certain because the box set Metalogy has tracks from every album through Demolition in order. This track is at the end of disc 3, after 4 other songs from Turbo.
@@kevintierney2000 Well I made a mistake then. Thanks for the info. That sound reminded me so much of Defenders its unreal
Racer X did kill on this track but Rob is so emotional vocally that you cant help but love this version as well. That pic at 2:48 is just pure Metal in all its fukn glory.
I love Priest and Rob Helford. That is a great song! I never heard the Priest version before. I think Racer X and Jeff Martin did the song great justice. I can almost hear Rob Helford in Jeff Martin's vocals. And who's any better than Paul Gilbert! Great guitarist!!!
Yeah Bob Probford is great here
I think Racer X made it their own.
This song was played as the coffin was carried in, at my friends funeral. Now it makes me cry every time I listen!
That's so beautiful ❤❤
Thank you so much Issy. I've just come across your comment, sorry it's taken so long to see it. It would have been Marc's 27th in a couple of hours of me writing this and, yes, I have been listening to it and remembering him. Oh and please DO NOT be a stranger. You are always welcome to call in.
@@timgrenville-cleave2848 I hope you and family are all doing okay. I think of you all often ❤
My respects lml
Nothing More Priest Sounding than 0:43 !
Hahaha!
love those tiptonic harmonics!
Why Gods, Why?!? they didn't go with this sound on "Turbo" and they went with that s***t guitar synthesizer that ruined any chance of heaviness of a classical Judas Priest.
@@mrclghrd9513 i Thonk also about that. and think that was 1986 time when just become digital sound and that effects . on that times was so cool modern . and specialy when so many glam bands oround them. and JP always want to be a with oryginal sound and i never heart that onds in other bands even on turbo is graight album . i think after 30 yr some one also would say this sounds of guitar an bands from 2019 is sucks ;)( sorry for my english i try with out transator)
@@mrclghrd9513 Heart of a Lion is defs better than anything that made it on to Turbo, frustrating indeed. And Turbo is probably in their bottom 5 albums or so, but it does have some great riffs. I just think the songs weren't executed very well. Some parts were fantastic, others sucked. Like the lead break in Turbo Lover is sick as, and most of Parental Guidance too. Also, gotta say, the guys were peaking, skill-wise. Rob's voice was dynamite. I loved his early 80s voice too, but once he gave up drinking, it's like he found another gear. And you see that from the Fuel for Life concert, they smoked that.
Gosh, what an outstanding track, have never heard it before. And that voice- who the hell has a voice like that?
Rob Halford
So glad Priest decided to let Racer X do this song. Racer X f**king KILLED IT !
who?
Panntasatan i checked out racer x's version. way over produced. i prefer Priest's version.
+thrashtilwedie Look up Racer X's other stuff, they really are a great band.
Rob halfored wrote the song he wrote it for the band racer x
And i like both version
@@thrashtilwedie it's a *demo*. if it had made it onto the album, the production would have been ramped up.
There is no measure for the quality of a band that can afford to have songs such as this go unreleased. It's bat-shit crazy.
I'm geeking out at the guitar work. It's stellar. This song is Great. What the bloody hell was wrong with Tipton & Downing that they didn't want this on a JP album?
totally 80's feeling - just one band can do that feeling: JUDAS PRIEST!!! \,,/
I don't know what is it but Judas Priest have something that makes me feel alive!
Unlike Better by You Better than me song?????
They should have polished this one up. One of their best!
I got chills when I heard Rob's voice. Love it.
I have never heard this version, however, the Racer X version is amazing.
I love classic Priest so much!!!
One of my favorite songs ever!
This song is tied with 'Here Come the Tears,' for my all-time favorite Priest song, and I've heard 'em all a dozen times over. I think its also tied with Hero Come the Tears for his most emotional performance in a song... There's something truly special about this one...
ever see them in concert?
LOVE THIS SONG! One of my all time favorites from Priest and it never made it to an album! LOL
The Racer X version kicks ass...
It's the first time I listen to it, and I love it!!! : )
Judas Priest= masters of music
this song has a lot of heart.......of a lion.
Halford played this tonight (12/09/10) in Chicago. I love the Turbo album and he said he was about to play some and it ended up being one that wasn't even on the record, so the first time I ever heard this was live.
You can find this on the Metalogy box set. Although a little pricy, there are some live versions on there that are supposed to be rare. I got mine with the Memphis DVD included.
Halford's expression mean alot to me. Because he loves us and suffers for us big time. I LOVE MR. ROB HALFORD!
love this song...always thought it was on british steel. rob halford is legend
I first heard this in the 1980s on a Racer X album. Didn't know until just now 'Priest had it on one of theirs. Love this song!
This is kind of like a Take These Chains and Prisoner Of Your Eyes mashup
Both great songs, and the guitar work on Prisoner Of Your Eyes is actually some of the best guitaring ever, insane stuff. Underrated tune.
Not sure why this didn't make it to Turbo. It's a killer song.
ROB HALFORD IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE **THE GODFATHER OF HEAVY METAL**🎤🤘🦁🤘
and the feeling that kk and glenn has is very cool, they express them selves when they play
WHAT A SONG! I'M SO GLAD HALFORD SANG THIS LIVE IN SF, OR I'D NEVER COME TO KNOW THIS WONDERFUL SONG EVER EXISTED!
When you get up early to go to work...play this jam....and do the damn thang...
This song's riff and chorus is so diffetent and so cool... I love this song
MY FRIEND MILLEI FROM TURKEY IS LISTENING TO THIS SONG AS WE SPEAK AND IS GOING CRAZY LIKE ME. YOU GAVE ME THE BEST SANDWICH I HAVE EVER TRIED WHEN I WAS HUNGRY. HE ALSO DESERVES MORE THAN ME BECAUSE I WAS A JOCK AT SCHOOL AND QUITE POPULAR AND HE WASN'T. ITS MILLEI TIME NOW! I LOVE YOU MILLEI LETS GO TURKEY!
One of Priest's best songs. Hands down, in my opinion. It's my personal all-time favorite.
Imagine such a job - You are Rob Halfords personal groupie banger,
Rob, you fougt for your right all the time; you got the heart of a lion. We all love you!!!
This is a great song. It has a nice groove to it.
Just think what this song could have been if it had been moved past a demo and properly produced and mastered . Anyone that hasn't heard it needs to check out Racer X's version of this song .
I find the "Halford" version superior to the Racer X version.
Coolness
Jason Martin The Halford version is nowhere close to as good as the Racer X version. Which sounds like sacrilege because he wrote it, but the Halford version is completely half-assed, horrible production and all.
I give a like not only for the track, but also for that nice video. XD You made me smile!
So grateful I grew up on that music.
His voice from 3:00-3:15 Extremely beautiful. Wish he'd use that tone more often.
I think I like this song better than anything on Turbo.
This sounds more like classic Priest from the 70s, which was the best Priest of all.
GREAT SONG!!
the first time I heard this was on a Racer X album. Love It. Thanks
Holy shit cool! Didn't know this was aPriest song to beginn with. It appeared first on Halfords Live Insurrection as a studio bonus track with Halfords solo musicians playing. Thank you for posting this, Great and a great song.
After listening again to both versions, I stand by my comment proud and confident! You glam metal junkie!
Yes taken from the 1986 Turbo sessions, they gave the song to Racer X for their Second Heat album.
Sacred gem obviously!
Ajjjjj kocham to🖤🔥🤘
Those box sets no longer carry the DVD! That's why I bought mine right away.
pretty badass classic rock
wow, I have been listening to priest for a long time, but it's the first time I listen to this song, it's excellent! thanks for sharing!
great pictures of one of the best metal bands ever!
it's become my fav JP song
Whatever you listen to,if it's heavy at all,was influenced by Tipton and Downing!Without them,Metal wouldn't have hit the airwaves! So many quality songs and leads, you need to re-think who's been circled countless times already!
Will never find the LOOOOVE!
This is one of my favorites from Priest, you will never hear it on the radio or XM
had no idea Judas dropped this track from Turbo, When I bought Racer X's Second Heat in '87 I noted that the song was written by Priest an figured they had written it for Racer X.. at the time i thought WTF this would have kicked ass on Turbo (considering some of the forgetable tracks on that album!!).. hate to admit it but Gilbert's solo work kicks ass over Tipton's.. Still rocks!
Your right but just to add, it's Both Paul and Bruce playing that solo in harmony, which makes it even more badass! :)
Tipton rules him.
Great Music will never die, you can be damm sure these guys are in my survival bunker..yea dammit!
0:44 LOVE YOU HAFLORD!
2:13 rob- "im not really comfortable doing this..." ... jj everybody
the more i listen the more i digg this song take care
I like both bands' versions equally...both awesome
it's a great song, judas priest is my fravourite metal group
thanks a lot judas
Good song, thanks so much for posting this!!
"Next up: pictures of the band and shit" Lol, dope.
Adoro sto pezzo!
Grande ROB!!!
This is better than any song on turbo
Rob's memory must be off, this had to be recorded in ibiza where they recorded defenders in 83, and also did post defenders pre turbo material there in 84 as it has the exact defenders guitar tone and even same guitar riff part used in "The Sentinel"...nothing like the sterile 85-86 Turbo pop metal sound they recorded in the bahamas. Jeff from Racer X who rob gave this song to them to record also said he heard it first in 84 after rob came back from ibiza
In Rob's defense, he was heavily drinking during that period and went through a shit ton of problems on the road to sobriety.
+Hellraiser Gordon
- actually he said it was cocaine moreso
+progjazzfusion Really? Not that I think he wasn't snorting blow during then, but I distinctly recall him saying his alcoholism was at it's peak during that time. This also explains his bloated appearance in 1984 for the Defenders of the Faith promos. He even did a short stint in rehab, from what I recall.
That's why he said "I think"
no he was doing both, he said he'd go song and song then go do a fat line.. you know when he was sweating bullets. and he said he didnt think his vocals suffered
i like it, i can see why it would be on the back burner, not that its not worthy its just isn't as good as the tracks already on Turbo. Should have definitely been a bonus song though.
Great stuff!
Thanx- I love Judas Prist for years.
Wile E. was a childhood companion of mine-and a favorite to this day.
Great song, fantastic band, coolio slideshow.
Ram It Down
+ Heart of a Lion, All Fired up, Reckless = probably would be one of the best heavy metal albums as the rank of Painkiller. Anyway, Ram It Down is still my favorite album.
Turbo
+ Love Zone, Love you to death, Monsters of Rock = We should take Parental Guidance + 1 more song out from this album. Turbo is a great album. You can't deny Turbo Lover, Locked In, Private Property, Out In The Cold, Reckless, Rock Youl All Around The World = EPIC!
This song is mad!
If only they released it on Turbo ! Would have made the album 10x better !
Ohhhhh my this is great!!!Rob is the best!!!
Awesome song, "JUDAS PRIEST" rules!!! \m/
0:43 ! Like A Laser Explosion On Metal!
if this doesn't make you want to get up and rock i don't know what will.
vive le hard rock en générale !!!!
MAGIC
A better Priest song....amazes me they never put in on a record.
it was released only through a judas priest album collection. it was called judas priest metalology. its one of a kind. its a square box with metal studs all around the sides, and the collection has 65 songs and the dvd of the live 82 concert of screaming for vengence. i bought it at best buy 5 years ago, for 50 bucks. priest released all their albums with unreleased bonus tracks. those are easy to find, but this song is the last unreleased track they have. that means no more hidden jems, so far
What about the full versions of the stuff they did with Stock-Aitken-Waterman/SAW in the late 80s?
Awesome !! Guitar Solo !! \m/ Just love the vocals & Guitar!!!!!
Gotta love the picture of halford with that... laser gun?
Pure GOLD
No,because I probably am narrow-minded and obsessed with Priest. But now I am curious about Racer X and I will sample their goods in the near future. Thanks for the info!Long live metal!
They should have put this on an album.
So, it's true! - the Racer X song is originally from JP... Really like this one as well, but Racer X takes the cake by more than a few inches. Real fun stuff though!
I totally agree, just wish the production on second heat was better. Needs to be remastered or something.
how much I love Judas Priest.... Very depress tonight (theyare playing in my town for the last time and I can't go).... life sucks.
should've been released
I woul so like to see you guys back in the old "Point Of Entry" & before that sound.
LOL at the individual members photos, yet no mention of the drummer hahaha. Anyway awesome song one of those rare gems
thanks.. I love judas..i will see in costa rica, the Tuesday..
video forgot to say that the song was "given" to the singer by Rob Halford for his birthday. That's why there's a version of it on Racer X's "Second Heat" before the actual song was released by Priest.
