  • In this video I compare the Pico 4 with its biggest competitor, the Meta Quest 2.
Is it time to join team Pico or should you wait with your upgrade until Quest 3 comes out?

Great review and points brought up! For me the Q2 was a real pain to get comfortable and get the sweet spot good. I stopped using it after a few weeks because of that. Pico 4 is exactly how I wanted the Q2 to work - I put the Pico 4 on and bam instant sweet spot - no constant faffing around - it's pure bliss playing PCVR games with it for many hours, and native Red Matter 2 is absolutely stunning on the P4.

I use Pico 4 for PCVR almost exclusively, and do not regret having to import it to the states.
I'm pretty sure it will work just fine for me for a few years, while keeping an eye for more advanced tech.
_I did like the idea of being able to sideload, in the case I want to tinker with things._

Content should not be an issue for the pico4 much longer with the introduction of the Pico into the US market very soon. I have both the Quest 2 and the Pico, and since getting my Pico, I have not used my Quest since (more than 4 months now), there's just no comparisoon when it comes to great immersion without fatigue setting in. I'd be interested in seeing a review between the Pico and the Quest pro !

Deal breaker for me on Pico 4 is terrible video compression using Link wire (poor bitrate). Bitrate can be increased by long tweaking but then we face Blue screen on windows. So I bought Quest Pro and it's great but not perfect, main down side is pretty low resolution. So for my needs resolution should be 4K per eye to suite my needs. But what hardware can handle that load we need to wait ~10 years more

Yes Pico Link streaming is poor but the Virtual Desktop by Guy Godin is much better

@VR Emirate that's old news man, pico has updated and fixed those issues several weeks ago. The software is now on par with vd when updated to latest Streaming Assistant 9.4.4.2

Nice thorough job on the review. I also would compliment you on making a blog post with it.
You may be interested in exploring a bit how much work qualcomm is doing for meta.
It's why all these other companies are able to produce basically better headsets because they use the xr2 chipset. Tracking, controllers, display etc all with meta doing very not too much for all the money they have spent (really weird how much they've spent when you look at it that way).
Snapdragon spaces is qualcomms XR room discovery and location mapping technology, I'm not clear if Pico will be supporting it directly or not but its pretty important for the next steps in XR.
I'll be buying a HTC XR Elite but thanks for the review of the Pico.

Thanks! The blog post took a lot of effort but it also helped structure the video.
So you're saying Pico 4 is standing on the shoulders of Meta 😅 Interesting!
P.S I really like the modular design of XR Elite - maybe I can do a review in the future

@@VREmirate No I'm saying Meta is standing on the shoulders of Qualcomm. Qualcomm seems to do everything that's important on the headsets, tracking etc etc. Qualcomm owns all the IP because they did all the work so they get to sell it to Pico.

@@alogghe Ah yes. Most standalone headsets are running on XR2 chipsets albeit with different clock speeds.

I didn't, everything was (and is) fine, except for the glare. From what I read on Reddit the issue you're describing happened mostly on the first batch products and got later fixed in subsequent batches.

Only worthwhile if you are only mainly interested in wireless PCVR using the additional cost app, Virtual Desktop, and if Pico ships/supports you country (still not the US). If you want the best, most versatile, higher quality headset get the Quest Pro. Cost 2x as much, but worth it imho.

Red Matter 2 is a good showcase for what the device is actually capable of, it is really close to the pc version. If only the rest of the games catalogue was held to the same standards.
