The coolest thing in this musical is that we can interpret what’s happening merely through the instrumentals, based on motifs of certain scenes (like “danger is nearby”motif, “storm” motif, etc.), motifs of certain characters (like Odysseus motif, Athena motif, Penelope motif, Telemachus motif, Circe motif, etc.), certain instruments (guitars, piano, viola, etc.), and certain musical elements (like the use of electrical music elements, etc.). Thank you, Mr. Jalapeño, for presenting the world with such a masterpiece.

You know it's effective when the fandom immediately recognizes Penelope's motif when Odysseus yells "I can't!" when Circe tempts him. Such a nice touch!

I also love how the motive also correlates to the mood. Like, in Puppeteer, Circe is very calm. She knows what happening and she is in control. The drums reflect a calm heartbeat and the strings an assured mind. In Done For, it all speeds up. The heartbeat like drum goes faster, like some filled with adrenaline and the strings are sped up like someone having to fight and find a quick solution.Circe has to fight and is loosing control and ground.
And in There Are Other Ways, she slowly calms down but seems more invigorated and positive. The drums find their tempo again and the strings have still a bit more pep to them. She as a person stays the same, just like her motiv stays the same and still there is a subtle difference.

YESSSS. Storytelling through motifs is so underrated. I have actually read the odyssey before, but I noticed that unlike all the foes Odysseus has faced, the danger motif never played in Circe's songs, foreshadowing that she doesn't exactly end up becoming an enemy.

I love how throughout all of Epic, it's not hard to picture whats going on thanks to all these motifs, each character has their theme n instruments, situational themes appear every now and then, the way some characters motifs play even when they aren't around. I like that the troy saga cements in the themes for ody and the crew, and from there on each saga introduces new motifs for new big characters. Ofc for each saga the motifs for the cyclops, poseidon and circe and everpresent, but so are the motifs for ody and the crew, musically showing how they're facing off these "big bads" on their journey home (and subsequently, ody's journey to ruthlessness)
Mr Jorgy gorgy you've done phenomenally well and thank you for all you've created!!

It also makes me happy to know Circe has a constant throughout the entire saga that is subtle and as you said, it is simple yet effective. Otherwise, it would be a bit too daunting how quickly she changes her mindset to face issues. The kick drum gives a simple step-by-step dance for us, Jay, and the character herself to stay steady. It is a building block to strategy and approach.

It seems to me that the strings represent Circe’s mind and the drum her heart. Puppeteer is her baseline so to speak. In Done For she really has to use her mind more than her heart. So the strings are faster. At the end of There Are Other Ways she’s had a change of heart and is following that more. So the drums seem faster.
