“What are you gonna do with *that* hair??” is a question I’ve never heard or seen asked to any woman besides a black woman with her natural God given hair. No other woman. They want us to be them. Some of us do want to be them. Nah I’m good.
True! The wild thing is, your hair IS done when people ask you that. I've observed that when my hair is in a style with untucked ends (afro puff, afro pnytail, afro, wash and go, mini twists, etc.) or unlaid edges is when I get asked this the most. If you embrace your hair from root to tip, people think there's something wrong with you SMH! 💔
Actually I’ve heard plenty of people asked this question and stuff to people aside from black women. I believe we just have to personally unsubscribe from white peoples idea of unkempt hair.
🎯 So true! Bw natural hair always has to to have something done to it. It's not appreciated or acceptable as is. A messy bun style or flat hair with a few fly aways on a ww would never be questioned about what is going to be done to it.
I'm in the era of trying to stop making my hair do shit that it can't do, I really just want to embrace my fro I'm tired of trying to do things that just upset my hair I want her to go at her own pace.
You’re right, this takes practice. I used to always cover my plaits with scarves, cute scarves and I rocked them, but nevertheless t my hair was covered. I thought I couldn’t be seen in public with plaits. BUT, I said no more! I’m throwing my plaits in a top bun, partings showing and all, and I don’t care what anyone thinks. It looks so nice and put together. My hair is breathing, thriving and it feels good to show my 4c plaits, especially to the young girls and the ladies in wigs. Im showing them that they can wear a protective style out too…maybe one day it’ll become the norm. And every month, I see my hair retaining more and more length! I’ll still put on a cute scarf when I want, I just don’t feel compelled to anymore. It’s a wonderful feeling when you start appreciating the crown of glory that God gave you, instead of hiding it and feeling shame. Love this! Looking forward to more vids on this idea. 🌺
I know she's supposed to be a bully or villain at the beginning of the movie, but another good disney classic movie is 16 wishes. The character Krista Cook was so good to me for representation because of the way she wore her natural hair with these cute outfits and held her head up high, i wanted to be her as a child.
I've just recently stopped putting gel on my hair to define my curls. Although I love the look of frizz free define curls and there is nothing wrong about enjoying and wearing that hairstyle. I'm just in a new phase in my life, where I want to actually accept my hair for all that it is, fluffy frizz and all. It doesn't have to be slicked down, edges can be untamed. I just want hair freedom, no hair frustration or stress. Just completely in love with my natural tightly curly beautiful tresses. Its taking time though.
Yes!!! I recently watched the movie again… and that part in the movie had a huge impact on me as well. I really liked how you related that scene to our hair. Beautiful job, I look forward to more of your content and God bless you! 😊🤎

Right. You could probs have 6 month old braids in and still wouldn’t be asked that

Wow now I need to watch the Princess Protection Program. Powerful example of maintaining confidence and poise in all situations!
Agreed! It's now on my watch list too.
Princess protection program is my favorite Disney movie.
I loved it too! Top 5 for sure 😄
I love this energy sis! Thank you ❤. I look forward to your series on confidence and overcoming hair dysmorphia.
You are doing the lords work. We need more people having these conversations!
BE YOUR OWN BEAUTY STANDARD! Confidence and comfort is often just practice! Eventually what felt scary will feel normal and then it can feel beautiful
