    This is such a help[ful and comforting video. I am a 38 years old man who has had hair dysmorphia since childhood and I can totally relate. I can say this applies to men as well.

    Ugly cried so hard because this video was so comforting, I've been struggling with hair dysmorphia since I was 13 years old. I have spent the past summer obsessing about my hair, cutting a few pieces everyday, looking up pretty girls with gorgeous hair as a habit. Now that online classes have started I can't focus on the class because I would be distracted by my hair and I would miss discussions because of it. I am 16 years old now and I want to have long hair like any other girl my age but, due to hair dysmorphia I would end up cutting it every chance I get. I have been looking for solutions but the sources says that I would have to get Behavioral Therapy which I can't get since I'm only 16 years old and my parents doesn't believe in dysmorphias. Thank you for the wonderful video. I'm for sure gonna try this tips.

    Ive had this since i was 16 and im now 37, in less then 2 months i went black, red, blonde, ash blonde, chestnut, dark brown and now a cherry red. And i have lost long hair and its now short and i still do it! i had a eating disorder when i was younger and obsessed about eating healthy and being thin, have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, another weakness i could fall into is tattoos i have 8 or piercing but ive managed to stay away from completely going nuts in that catagory. The hair and body thing is a struggle.

      Thank you for opening up and sharing. I know it's not easy. Even in our adulthood we carry these things with us. Just know that there are a lot of us out there that struggle with this too. The beauty of being obsessive and self conscious is that we are very self aware and by being aware of out dysmorphia we can choose to let it pass or we can choose to let it bother us. Just know we have a choice, even when it's difficult. We are strong and capable! You can always feel free to reach out to me further through social media 💖 ✌️

      I could have written this myself! I’m 38 now too .. seeing that u wrote this a year ago. Omg the fucking hell is unreal. I have bleached and cut my hair ( mostly chemical cuts LOL) more times than I can begin to count . My hair is a chin length eternal Bob yet I STILL won’t leave alone. I then fell into an amazing cover up of wigs + extensions which I’ve now wasted a whole inheritance from my Nan on … so sad but true … it’s a non stop obsession that just won’t leave me alone ! Online shopping is the worst thing ever to enable it too . Ive had to take every mirror in my house down before for every time I go to wash my hands I’m fussing with it again , ‘oh it looks shit… need to take out n re-do’ omg what if ppl knew I had no hair left ?! They wouldn’t give me the time of day …. And of course with all the wild colors n long hair it’s become a party piece so everyone now expects me to have this flawless mane of hair …. Ffs … so now not only am I on my case 24-7 about it , other ppl are too 🙈 I got to the point I wouldn’t even open door to postman without a wig on 🙈And alike u I also had my eating issues .. mine was in in young adult hood. I also hate my eyes so that too is a constant source of buying lashes , eyeshadows etc to ‘make them look better’ and I know it’s impossible for my hair or eyes to ‘look better’ because it’s my actual brain that needs the adjustment. Also now I’m getting older I’ve decided my bum is too hideous for the world to see so I cover it up every day now with various shirts round waist , long cardigans u name it …. Ahhhhhh lord … I’ll never be happy , satisfied. I have so many compliments every day from women + men alike but it’s not that they think it’s this bully on my shoulder that won’t piss off. And the reason I have never sought help is because I’m scared of ppl thinking it’s vanity because of the way I doll myself up every day without fail …. If only it was …. If bloody only . I just wish I was someone else tbh . Anyone but me and that’s not even looking wise … someone without my brain

    I have BDD and hair dysmorphia. I had anorexia when I was 12 years old. I have tattoos and piercings.
    The reason for all this? A narcissistic personality disordered mother.

    • @naturallyantonia
      @naturallyantonia  4 года назад +1

      Aw sending out so much love! I know it's not easy. My parents werent narcissistic but they worked all the time. I was by myself a lot. I also didn't have many friends. I always felt kind of average ya know. So I felt like controlling my food and exercise was something I was good at. But in reality I really needed more love from my family and friends but I pushed away. Like you, still healing from this. Tattoos and piercings are a great form of self expression! I don't have any tattoos but I do like to express myself with jewelery sometimes and of course growing my hair. Additionally taking up instruments was helpful for me. Also thank you for reaching out, BDD, hair dysmorphia, and anorexia is all quite difficult to talk about. I truly wish you the best. Lots of love and strength 💪 ❤️

    I love your hair alot and you inspire me ! I’m now very close to waist. I want to ask what do you think of: if you used them. I want to buy a natural shampoo and don’t know what is the most natural out of these.
    1-andalou naturals shampoo
    2-avalon shampoo
    3-organic exellence
    4-petal fresh
    5-derma e scalp relief shampoo

    • @naturallyantonia

      Thank you so much for the sweet comments! So Andalou is a great shampoo and conditioner! My boyfriend uses the stem cell thickening one and his hair is very thick now! I have seen a difference. I've used their deep conditioning packets, the rose one, and it makes my hair very soft and smells great! I love Avalon Organics, it's my favorite one you mentioned, I use their Lemon Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner and it makes my hair feel so clean and soft. I'm not familiar with Organic Excellence or Petal Fresh. I have never used Derma E shampoo but I do use their Charcoal face wash and it's amazing! Great brand! Some other natural brands I love are Giovanni, Nature's Gate, and Maple Holistics.

      Aw! It can be really frustrating. I understand the struggles. A lot of it is trial and error until you find what works for you. Also knowing your hairs porosity is big too. And sometimes finding people with similar hair types as yours as seeing what they use can be helpful. Hang in there, good things are coming 💖

    Every time I have to go do something important such as going to school my hair always feels uncomfortable that it bothers me so much that I can’t focus. It gives me so much anxiety that I just can’t function. I am always stressing and overthinking my hair all the time. I don’t care if it looks good or not, I just want it to feel comfortable. Can you tell me if this is hair dysmorphia or if this is something else? Thank you

    • @naturallyantonia
      @naturallyantonia  3 года назад +1

      It could be hair dysmorphia, it sounds a lot like a sensory issue with how it feels which could totally be connected. I also am heating some self consciousness which can be connected to hair/body dysmorphia as well as social anxiety.

      Seeing a counselor may be helpful if you are able to. A lot of times therapy like CBT and DBT are good at addressing body dysmorphia and boosting self confidence. ❤️

      @@naturallyantonia thank you for the kind words!!! I’m already off of social media pretty much since 2020. I’m only using youtube. I’ve always had such a struggle with feeling like my sense of beauty was tied to my hair. Recently , after having Covid last year, my hair started falling out and got thin. It was pretty long and I was finally loving it. But then I ended up cutting it super short in an episode of depression and dysmorphia due to going into menopause. I started HRT , so doing better.... but my hair being so short has been such a challenge to my ego. I miss my long think hair and am struggling to feel attractive and “ like myself”. Everyone around me says it looks great but I keep having the perception that I don’t look good or like the way it feels..... I know it’s all in my mind and I’m doing my best to love and accept myself. Your video is the first time I’ve heard of this disorder and throughout my whole life I’ve had such a distorted relationship with my hair . It always seemed like no one else takes their hair as “ seriously” as me or is as disturbed by hair cuts or bad hair days... i was always so emotional around my hair...it always seemed so irrational to me as well but I couldn’t deny my experience. Now I’m realizing I do have a form of dysphoria. I had never considered it before. Now that I know , I can try to move on from it. That saying “ it’s only hair” has always bothered me, bc to me it’s always been so much more. Thank you 💞

    I always say, how will you be blessed with more hair if you don’t love it already! It’s p hard to manifest more of something you hate. I feel it’s why when ppl who focus hardcore on their hair, it never seems to grow yet when they leave it alone, changes are evident
