Dress to Kill remains one of the best stand up specials ever.
Got that right.
1000%
Yes!
the bit on puberty...HA!
Cake or death!!!!
Eddie is proof positive that it doesn’t matter who, what, why, how you are. When you’re wonderful, you’re wonderful!
Been a fan of Izzard since 'Dress To Kill.' What an aware, adaptable talent.
I agree! Loved that comedy special!
:) It's definitely been too long!
Still the great Eddie Izzard! One of the greatest guests on any talk show, deeply human, funny and cuttingly intelligent.
I agree!!!!
All that and killer nails!
I guess I should like him.
She's fantastic!! ⚘
💜
having such a grip on 4 different languages that you can do a successful standup show in the native country is really totally insane. very impressive
Especially for a dyslexic. He might as well be blind.
@@MultiMolly21 *she. Since 2020, Eddie Izzard uses she/her exclusively.
@@MultiMolly21It's interesting. I know several dyslexic people who are liguistically skilled. It's just the reading/spelling part that's impaired at I think in some cases the impairment hones unusual skilld in picking up oral language, by ear, dialects, attention to tones and phrasings. I know several authors/poets who are dyslexic. It's just a theory, but I'm guessing Eddie is better than most at remembering lines he's only heard, not read, as a result. Which is fabulous when writing material from your own experiences, bc you naturallt memorize whole conversations!
Eddie is endowed with rare intelligence though, and multitalented. I think she inspires us all to share her attitude of being curious about the world and ideas, and not letting obstacles or otherness limit our confidence. And reminds us that being utterly silly and intellectually invested are entirely compatible, wonderful traits.
On top of that running Marathons for charity all over the World
I am nearing 60 years old, I have seen a lot of the greatest stand-ups, but no one has made me laugh as hard as Eddie Izzard. PLEASE do yourself a favor, watch Eddie Izzard: Dressed to Kill. It's free on PRIME right now. I laughed so hard, I started to cry, I couldn't breathe, I had to stop the show just to gather myself. No Stand-up has ever made me laugh that hard, she is one of a kind. People toss around the word Genius to easily, Eddie IS pure GENIUS.
Thanks for the heads up - I love standup but have missed seeing anything by Eddie so far. I just added all of her available specials to my watchlist because I am excited to see more of her work! 🙌
@@lb5368 OMG watch them ASAP. They will change your LIFE!
Dressed to kill was definitely my favorite! She’s an excellent comedian and character actor!! So smart and witty!
Chao!🛵🐿
She's been my top favorite comedian from the moment I discovered and devoured her comedy. Wish I could travel and see her one-woman show and hope it's filmed and streaming at some point for those of us who can't see it any other way.
Thank you very much!
To this day, I can't read "San Francisco" or "Alcatraz" without hearing Eddie Izzard's voice from Dress to Kill. And it's made my life richer.
"Al-ca-trazzzz"
From a distance, it's almost pretty...It's got a lighthouse! It's got a big thing at the back that looks like a monster but NO! It's Alcatraaaaaz
How tightly can chains be pulled???
The ciiiiity. Everyone got a bag of snakes. Paris gigs. No snakes
Eddie Izzard's a beautiful piece of humanity, heartwarming.
I missed hearing Eddie's cadence so much! I can only pray she has another recorded special soon so we can see her outside of NYC
i cannot overstate how much i love eddie izzard. her creativity, her energy, her bravery of being her very self. awe-inspiring. ♥️
Ditto!
Agree!
An absolute gem of a person.
❤

I love Eddie Izzard so freaking much, she's the best
The Death Star Canteen bit is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
Somebody did a Lego reenactment.
You can tell how much Seth admires her
I've always loved Eddie, so intelligent and hilarious at the same time❤
This was such a nice surprise to wake up to. Eddie is one of my favorite people on the planet. She has such a beautiful comedic mind. I don't think anyone has made me laugh as hard or view the world in a different lens as Eddie has. Love to see it!
I think it helps that she is insanely smart and has such an interest of history.
ditto! More of this always! So funny and such a deep conversation. I love when Seth gets to get deep.
1000% I remember watching his HBO specials in middle school. Genius!

Eddie is a living Legend
Glorious and Dressed to Kill have been the sound and humour of my childhood. She is so so supremely talented and has invested so much in her craft! I've wanted to see her live!
The bit about the computer and the unrecognized printer kills me every time - the pain is real, so very real.

@Patrick Walsh lol, glad you're using the usual responses. Just because it doesn't suit you?
@zed Bou it does suit you, SAD!
Oh we saw the play last week! She was brilliant. I hope she records it, because I would love to see her performance again.
I would love to see a recording of it! Maybe it's been recorded for "Great Performances" or the like.
As a woman, I take issue with a man being a she. Womanhood belongs to women and morons like you ought to be beaten!
I love whatching British comedians as they get older. The voice, the cutting wit, it all gets sharper.
I came here to say how much I love Eddie Izzard but everyone already got ahead of me. It's really hard to not listen to this interview and love Eddie even more.
I was in London over this past holiday season, and in a span of about 3 minutes at the South Kensington tube station, ran into not only Eddie Izzard (She was very noticeable in a flashy pants suit), but also Sir Ian McClellan!
Just a very fleeting interaction with both ("Hey. I love your work." while passing by), but both responded with a polite "Thank you".
It was a very unexpected "brush(es) with greatness " moment.
Love you, Eddie. Dressed to kill is still one of the greatest specials out there
Eddie is just such a cool human being. Apart from all the comedy and all the languages she does them in, also her marathon running and philanthropy and just all around being a wonderful human is absolutely inspiring
It’s the marathon running for me too. Plus performing in French. The biographical documentary about that is amazing.
She did a performance while running on a treadmill the other year. Talk about a difficult task.
He's a bloke.
@@crunch8484 Are you her dad?
Been a fan of Eddie since their Dressed To Kill days. What a brilliant human being!
Eddie is the first person I have ever seen present herself as she is and make it feel like the most normal and non-issue thing in the world. Fantastic.
right?! 100%!!
As a trans person she is extremely inspiring to me!
Also remember, eddie goes by he or her, he has no preference.
@@TheJiggs666 I know. I was responding in the context of the video. Go watch his interview on Hiking with Kevin. Eddie talks about that. 😊
Agreed!!!
I've been a fan of Eddie Izzard since I was in my teens. She is a multi-talented visionary, far ahead of her times. She is so engaging, funny and authentic. The best part is that my hair is growing back due cancer radiation treatments and I'm definitely adding her hairstyle to my style list for when it grows out about another inch!!!!! I had waist length hair so it will be different. Absolutely LOVE IT!!

She is just brilliant. Dress to kill is my all time fav
Love Eddie. So intelligent, entertaining, quick witted, funny-as-all-get-out and just glorious!
Eddie is such a fascinating person to listen to. Brilliant
Funniest human being of our lifetime!! I've adored her for years and years and she honestly just keeps getting better. (Also, very pleased to see such love and warmth in these comments--thank you all for being good people!)
Seth’s audience are usually good people 😊
I took my daughters to see Eddie in Mtn. View, CA and we all loved her! She is so smart and funny. I really appreciate intelligence in comics now and Eddie has always been on top!
I loved her on Joe Rogan's podcast, did you see that one?
I'm genuinely almost in tears with how much love and warmth I'm feeling toward these amazing comments. Nothing but love and admiration. 🥰🤗
Eddie is just so talented. I bet the show is fantastic.
I once read three of Dickens’ novels in a row and started speaking Victorian english subconsciously! My friends thought I had lost it! Izzard is an amazing person!
Hope they film that show so we can see it.
It's amazing how Eddie can talk up a storm and still get us all to hang on to her every word. Her brain works on a different level than us normal folk.
I remember a while back, she had a joke that she told in 3 or so different languages at the same time that somehow was still hilarious to anyone listening.
Her brain? That is a man in drag.
Both Henry Rollins and Eddie. They're phenomenal.
Eddie is so smart, so quick witted and yet so nice and sweet, I mean, it's the perfect combo.
I actually really like Eddie, I remember watching her stand-up in the late 90s when I was like 13.
Even then, it was just funny. I appreciated the comedy, even though I had no understanding about the identity of the performer. Kudos Eddie 👏

Absolutely love Eddie - always so great to see her! Everything she does is amazing. Watching this was a great way to start my day.

Did see Eddie Izzard a few years ago live on stage in Cologne, after being a fan for many years.

PS Tip: get her Audiobook-Autobiography on Audible, it's wonderful to listen to.
Eddie is such a great guy, clever yet humble, confrontational yet reassuring. A real beacon for humanity...
He was the star of a wonderful TV show titled "The Riches" some years back. I was so disappointed when it didn't get renewed for a second season.
She can cram so much information into one sentence! It's brilliant!!

@@juliadavisart OMG Thank you for correcting me!! Edited!
That's how this should be done ❤️
That's the superiority of the UK education over US education. Eddie came to South Carolina, most of it went over people's heads.
Actually he/she just rambles.
Eddie is such an inspiration! You can be dyslexic and still speak and inform the opinions of an entire generation. Happy Birthday, Eddie!
I’ve loved Eddie Izzard for years, I’m so glad to see her still thriving and doing the fun projects that she wants to do! I need to rewatch Dress to Kill now.
Trabscending normal? Ha+
This is how you know Eddie's brilliant: "English is an easy language to grab hold of."
It is. Most languages have rules. English has five rules and the rest is a "come as you are".
Because everyone speaks it on television

Kudos to the Late Night team for introducing Eddie properly. Not sure if it was a specific decision, but thank you. I know Eddie has had a fluid gender presentation in their life, and I appreciate Seth using 'her'. Thank you ❤️
Seth's not an idiot.

"....had obviously been arranged by a dying relative" is such an exquisite line.
I have many questions.
Eddie is such a treasure.
Eddie is a gift to humanity. I loved her in 'Velvet Goldmine.'
This was a delight. Eddie's interviews are always fun to listen to when she gets into stories, which speaks to how great a storyteller she is! :D
Eddie has so many good quotes, but I think I love it the most when she says, “ohhh…” in the way she does 😂
Same!! And with that little smirk. That's enough to crack me up
yup yup yup. This whole interview was a bravura improv incorporating her own language of expression that we know and love. The brilliance! Every "ohhh" is full of every one of those we've ever heard, it's so rich.
I've had a massive crush on Eddie for years.
Eddie is great I've been following her for at least 20 years. Can you imagine bak in the day going to the Scottish Comedy Festival and seeing her and Robin Williams on the same bill?

Jolly spiffing marvelous to see Eddie on Late Night. She is truly one of the all-time greats of comedy.
Her brain never stops.
We used to watch Dress to Kill after finishing AP Euro in high school. So refreshing to still hear the same comedy cadences all these years later
Oh my God this is one of my most favorite actors. And we both loved Charles Dickens.
How does one become so outrageously impressive without being able to read? How do you learn multiple languages and know so much history and literature, etc and memorize scrips and entire solo shows? I have no trouble reading and I speak one language and know nothing. Eddie is a singular force.
Because dyslexia has for too long been misrepresented as a learning disability. I can tell you as a teacher that our rigid ideas about learning are the only disabling thing here. She’s found a way around that limiting system and thrived. Dyslexic people are deeply intelligent and creative. Perhaps you were disabled but such limiting system too, as many of us have been.
