So being newer, coming up on 1 year next month, I dedicate a lot of time to escaping from side control. I've spent as much time on the mats practicing it as I have searching for technique and tips. This is an excellent tutorial. On par with Knight, Keesling, Chewy, Grappling Academy, etc. The editing and with real life examples is so very helpful and distinguishes it as top notch. Thankyou very much.

So I did #3 today. It was interesting because I never had a chance to drill it. I've just watched this video a half dozen times. Tonight's training was on side control and by the time we got to rolls I was already pretty spent. I started by bridging shrimping out and throwing my knees back in but I just wasn't fast enough so just as my partner settled I bumped again, shrimped out and put my legs behind and underneath me and got up. What I forgot was to control his sleeves which allowed him to sprawl and attack which added some other challenges. Thanks again for another great video.

Jedi...worked the steamroller and the steamroller with the single leg tonight. Surprised the hell out of the instructor when he saw me doing it. I got a “nice sweep” compliment from both my situational partner and the instructor.
    Staying consistent! 🔺🥋🔺

As a whitebelt who is absolutely worthless at escaping side control, I drilled #1 and #4 religiously and was able to pull both escapes off in class yesterday. I love your videos man, keep up the great work

hi mate. I'm 48 and have only just started jiujitsu. in that month ive nearly broken my finger, my nose, ribs on both sides, and getting the start of cauliflower ears, but I love it! I'm trying to get as much content as I can to stop getting these injuries and your one of the main guys I get it from. I can really see your passion for the art come through your channel, (except for the skateboarding !! haha) your great at explaining the techniques and I appreciate the content to help people like me not get submitted so much and to grow the love of the sport. keep it up Jedi, great work

That's it brother. your body will never be pain free again. And why so many injuries? Not saying this to be a jerk or anything...but are you training too hard or have the new white belt spasms..(we all did it myself included) I am only a 4 degree white belt..but training 4 years with a two year break..so two years.. I have also experienced similar injuries at a close age. 43. Toes, ribs, fingers, .constant neck pain, lower back pain. All manageable, but a real pain in the ass..pun intended..because i used to train too much. i was addicted to the art and the affect the gym had on my body. Since im just back after a two year break i am relativity pain free...for now. But feel the familiar nagging pains returning. As we evolve our game we will train with less injuries by understanding pressure and angles and movement better. Jedi's content will definitely help, and i cant wait to start using some of these techniques more as my cardio comes back.
and you are correct..our man Jedi makes really good videos. And his jits game is really tight.

    Hi Jedi
I am looking for somw advice.
I am new to jiu-jitsu, made the decision to start training just as the world shut down. When this happened I got myself a dummy and a bjj dvd and some selected RUclips videos (yours included of course). I have drilled techniques over and over, trying to keep everything simple (no choice with a dummy lol).
My club has opend back up and I am now rolling with real people.
I am really struggling to relax during rolling, I can escape from mount and side control like I'm made of smoke but I find myself back in closed guard bottom and then I lock up. Blue belts struggle to pass me (which I suppose is a bonus). Although my brain is screaming triangle or arm bar nothing happens, it's like I'm holding on for dear life.
This has a knock on effect as for days later I feel like I've been hit by a bus (really bad doms).
Any advice you can give would be appreciated
    Best wishes
    Paul

Yo Jedi, thanks for posting this video. This may sound horrible but I am a blue belt and whenever I roll with someone who has a nasty side control, I literally bait them into taking full mount because I find it much easier to escape full mount lol. I know I shouldn't do that but I guess it is a strategy of a sort right? I will try these next time I roll and see how it improves my side control escapes!!
