Gordeau bit Royce in ‘93 and lost. Then blinds Yuki and loses in ‘95. As a result Jedi correctly wipes Gordeau’s Dutch heritage and makes him French. Bravo, sir 🫡

That Yuki Nakai vs Gordeau fight happened during the event that the Rickson Gracie documentary "Choke" was filmed. Yuki had three fights that night. The eye gouge from Gordeau happened in the first fight. He went on to defeat his second opponent Pittman, again much, much larger via armbar. He lost to Rickson in his third fight of the night. As I'm new in bbj I'm training alot each week focusing on closed guard as I'm forcing closed guard sparring to learn it deeper as jumping into sparring only knowing a few positions at the beginning was alot harder to find success. Learning everything I have inside the closed guard for me has been so fun and intresting. Its my style for now and it's 1 dimensional but it's getting better and it's helped tremendously at understanding the game itself as its so deeply rooted.

One day when you remake this video, you should add four fights to the bottom level:
Helio soneca vs Megaton Diaz, both 1 and 2. Two high level world champions.
Renzo Gracie vs Eugenio Tadeo. Major no-holds-barred showdown in Brazil between rival clans and styles, BJJ and Luta Livre. Fight resulted in actual violence and rioting.
Rickson vs Hugo Duarte on the beach in Brazil. This fight and the fight between Renzo and Tadeo were the pinnacles of the BJJ vs Luta war.

Great video idea, haven’t watched whole thing yet so apologies if explained, but:
In addition to details about Gordeau blinding Nakai in one eye, I’d also say that, although Nakai went on to become godfather of BJJ in Japan with Paraestra dojos, at the time of Choke Nakai had nothing to do with BJJ and was a pure shootwrestler with a Kosen judo background.. Losing to Rickson then inspired his BJJ journey.
