I shot this. Turned out pretty good huh for a cheap camera? Glad you all are still enjoying this 20 years later. I sat on a small shelf at the side of the room so I could shoot above everyone's head. Cat Power lives!
Roger, if you still have this footage, is there any chance you would upload it in slightly higher quality? I’ve loved this video for a decade, would be great to see it a little more clearly
@@FungusMossGnosis Is this the show where she ended by saying "Knock Knock" before running off stage? I remember that happening there about this time. But maybe she was all acoustic back then. A nod to your clever name, FungusAmongUs ;-)
This is my favorite song among Cat Power's albums. It's kind of hard to describe it, but she just sounds as if she dares to stand against the world collapsing in front of her. The song of solitary.
This video truly captures the essence of chan marshall. The emotion in her voice is so pure and effortless, and thats why it's amazing. As much as chan has evolved until now, i am still a huge fan of hers, and it is understandable that as her life changes, so will her music.
"How selfish of you to believe in the meaning of all the bad dreaming" She is so...I feel such a connection to her, her talent is unbelievable and I'm looking forward to future releases from her. Sure, her music has changed, she's happier, but you can't really expect her talent to dissapear. We will always have her old music, but she's moved in a new direction. And I don't think it's a bad one.
This was the first song I ever heard from Chan. It was played in a movie called 'Picture Claire' with Juliette Lewis and Gina Gershon (great movie by the way) and I fell head over heels in love with that song. Anyways, found the name of the song, name of the artist and became a die hard fan of that woman ever since. That was over 8 years ago, and to this day Metal Heart still remains my absolute favorite song she ever did...nothing compares. I love you Chan. You are a wonder to behold.
i think that the emotion you're hearing in her voice is pain. and pain isn't always the only form of artistic emotion. when i think of chan marshall, i think of her as my friend (in an indirect way) and to see her in pain makes me kind of sad, especially when people are saying "yeah i liked her better when her life was a wreck". maybe her music is different now, but it's still chan marshall's (well, you know, to an extent) and it's beautiful. and i'm very happy for her and her career.
Man she's not only grown 10 years but been through some rehab and therapy since and I can just admire the way she came out there! So well, let her make some money and enjoy her success now. *loves Moon Pix AND The Greatest (and Jukebox as well)*
I love how she's expanded her sound, (and also found happiness!) in her recent work with The Greatest and Jukebox, but my very favorite Cat Power is still this one; on tour playing small clubs with her band, playing songs off Moon Pix. It's probably selfish of me to find her most heartbreaking and haunting work my favorite, but I think it's with out a doubt when her work was the most powerfully intimate. Thank you for uploading this.
Amazing performance, whatever has lead to her changes in style and abilities, it's unfortunate that the power and rare beauty exhibited in this performance has been lost. Also - Dirty Three never got the credit they deserved for what they lent to this album and her performances of this time. They are the unsung heroes here.
This song on moonpix and the one on jukebox are completely different. Their both on my playlist back to back, and I think I love them the same. But seriously, this is my fave song along with Ice Water
Anybody able to name the guitarist ? Quite a few vids with Chan, Jim White and this guy......I feel he needs some recognition as well......pure magic recording.....thank you
for me, she is like a modern saint. i like both studio versions of the song, but this cannot be compared with anything, amazing, really amazing version
Fantastic - I love her voice, I came across it for the first time when I was watching Juno - and I heard her version of Sea Of Love. I didn't know who she was but I was literally blown away and had to find out who sang that song. After that I searched everywhere for stuff by her. Never looked back! =)
i dont think that thier sound diminshes with time so much as changes. and that change is different then what you originaly liked its more of an opinion thing. i just love this song! This is probably the best version i have ever seen. she is brilliant no matter how old and wise she gets she will always be genius in my opinion.
i love her music.. its interesting how her appearance has changed i wonder how'd she look with her attire now back then in her glowing youthfulness.. anyways i thought she's was incredibly beautiful in music and in her looks hehe

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Best live version of this ever in my opinion. Oh to have been there....

Thanks, awesome.

This is the best video I have watched on the Internet.
yep.
Got back here within a year and thought it was my comment on this video...
I come back to it year after year after year.
This truly is a neat deal.
I honestly would have started crying in that audience.
One of the most memorable concerts that I was lucky to see.
I cried when I saw her last night. So did the person next to me.

Metal Heart is such a beautiful and haunting song.
Blue smoke will take a very violent flight.
I keep coming back to this.......
+Trace9924 I thought I was alone on that statement.
Throughout the years right... Damn it's really good.
same here.
"You're losing the calling that you've been faking
And I'm not kidding"
Best version of this song ever. So moving. I love Cat Power!
she was in a very very bad place when this was filmed....yet such beautiful art
I'm a big catpower fan. Her early stuff is really genius. Wow, and she said she was always drunk in her interview. Raw emotion and power.
Love the chilled vibe... possibly her best version of this track.
after seeing this for the first time, i wrote the best song of my life. this is just oh so beautiful.

wow she is so good, you can hear her beauty and sweetness from her voice
Man she's not only grown 10 years but been through some rehab and therapy since and I can just admire the way she came out there! So well, let her make some money and enjoy her success now.
*loves Moon Pix AND The Greatest (and Jukebox as well)*
I owe so much to you for the existence of this video in my life. THANK YOU.
this is the saddest song i've ever heard. I used to cry to this song. This is a beautiful version.

Best version ever.
words can not even begin to describe, she is amazing, this is incredible and then some

You can hear the strength of her emotion in this song. Just beautiful. Love you, Chan. :)
Her music is absoloutley beautiful.
This is an incredible song, so poignant - she's a unique woman.
i could listen to this forever.
how are some humans just this incredible?
i love her. the quality of this video really gives me a feel of it. it just suits her so well..
You aren't the only one. The pain in her voice is so raw it makes you want to flinch.

god damn I miss the 90s underground rock scene...
This song is so amazing and cat power is truly the best vocalist to sing this song. Anyone can appreciate this song and its singer. Love it
This song on moonpix and the one on jukebox are completely different. Their both on my playlist back to back, and I think I love them the same. But seriously, this is my fave song along with Ice Water
If I had a time machine this may would be the first place I would go.
I think that she still is an amzing artist. I really liked The Greatest and Jukebox. This song is one of my all time favorites.
