- This is a rare extended version of the song "Willie", track number six on Cat Power's album The Greatest. It was recorded during the sessions of the You Are Free album, back in 2003. Also, this was released as a bonus track with the Speaking for Trees DVD.
The vocals on the song are provided by Cat Power (Chan Marshall), and it features M. Ward (half of the She & Him indie pop duet) playing the guitar. It was written by both of them and recorded in a single take.
I'm not a great video editor, so I just selected some pictures of Chan to go along with this great tune, which is the thing to be enjoyed here. She is really cute, though.

In the year 2000 I heard her play alone in the corner of an art gallery, at the pace of Willie Deadwilder, one song blending into another and then another and another, for close to 3 hours, with one light in the corner in the entire place. My heart melted that night but it ran down into a better place.
Oh man, she is touching me again and again and again… For over twenty years now. Her voice is so deeply affecting me. Go Chan, Go!

When I went to Chan concert in Istanbul 2 years ago she explained the story behind this song. Once she took a taxi and the driver told her all the troubles of his life and about his love for this girl, Rebecca.
Then before he dropped Chan off, he stopped by the house of the girl and hug her on the doorstep.

Next yaer I become 50. Last Year my wife, Mother of our 3 wonderful children, left me. No, she didnt die, but emotionally maybe - yes. I still and will ever love her. This Song and this voice is the right 4 today to me. It's the 24th of Dezember and this day the daylight time will increase - the astronomers teaches this as a fact. But now I really want believe it.
