    Great video. How do you like Silas Marner? I checked it in DA gardens and they were small and non-fragrant. Is it not always fragrant, is it improving with age or anything else you could say about that one? Just really can't decide if i'm ready to sacrifice the space in my garden for this rose. Gardener Ben really praised the Dannahue scent which in my opinion is very mild. But I do agree on Emma and Eustacia - both amazingly fragrant. I really liked Elizabeth in real life but again little scent so far...

      Hello thanks for watching, the blue plant below the roses are napeta also known as cat mint. These are great companion plants with roses. Another companion plant I would suggest are salvias.

    I bought the Alexandra Kent rose just a week ago! I notice that David Austin’s roses here across the pond arrive on the rather small size. Perhaps where you are they arrive more developed? What may i use to fertilize my lovely ladies? Please do advise. 🙏🏻

      Brilliant choice!! This is no doubt one of my favourite rose of all time, beautiful high petal count blooms with an amazing scent. Yes I have seen alot of da roses you guys receive from DA in the states and are absolutely miniature babies compare to what we have in uk. I generally use rose food fertiliser such as top rose which comes in pellets form and another liquid fertiliser rose toner which I spray on the leaves itself, and the leaves obsorbes the liquid through the leaves. Good luck 😉

    Your chapter headings have some funny misspellings. 10 should be Silas Marner (not Mana), 8 should be Munstead (not Monster) Wood, 6 should be Gertrude Jekyll (not Jackal). 4 should be Eustacia Vye (not Vai) but from he way you pronounce the names I know you know the correct ones.

      😂 Helen Trope , you had me worried, I had to check my video again to make sure. The subtitles was provided by RUclips and it automatically spells how it sounds through pronunciation using the very clever computer system. How they do it is beyond me?

    Desdemona at #12 is very odd. That rose is only moderately fragrant on a good day.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  Год назад +2

      Scent can vary depending on where we live, climate is equally important to determine how fragrant a rose can be. But the compile is of 12 is personal opinion

    • @nikkonch
      @nikkonch Год назад +1

      My sense of smell has been severly impacted by Covid, but for me the scent of Desdemona is one I can easily detect, so personally speaking I would say it is at the very fragrant end of the spectrum. I know smell is in the nose of the beholder - my wife thinks Eustacia Vye has a disgusting smell. And of course scent depends on moisture content in the air, sun and shade, time of day and temperature, etc. ... It is a complex issue. All we can do is say "For me the smell of this rose here and now is ...."

      I have had an Abraham Darby in my current garden (in the UK) for about 6 years. At its best it is in my opinion the most beautiful and most fragrant DA rose I have. Unfortunately, DA withdrew it from the market here, because in the UK climate it struggles to stay healthy, and after the first flush In June it invariably succumbs to disease. Mine was brilliant in the hot sunny weather we had this June and I think that if the UK had hotter, sunnier summers it would be many people's favourite.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  Год назад +1

      I would have bought it if this was still available. Understandable for Da to have withdrawn this rose. if this wasn’t its preferred climate, saying that why was lady Emma redrawn since she has been so popular?

    • @nikkonch

      @@kenvoong5977 I remembered this comment of yours when I spotted that Trevor White Roses claim to be the only UK supplier of Abraham Darby now, although you'll have to wait for a bare root in the autumn. I hesitate to recommend it because it needs a lot of care, attention and good weather to flower successfully, but when it does it is heavenly! I did post a video of AD a year ago if you search Abraham Darby rose. Though I don't think this is the best it can be.
