Lovey video, Ken! We have been in Albrighton few days ago, left with totally different roses, that we originally thought we would leave with!) Came after Princess Alexandra and Queen of Sweden, left with Gabriel Oak and Charles Darwin. I was smitten by Charles Darwin size, shape of the flower and the most amazing tea scent. Next will be Summer Song for this incredible apple scent (although site claimes it smells by bananas, lol). Another unexpected few went into the Wish List: retired Shropsire Lad (where to find it now!) Wildeve and Desdemona. Not to mention that we still want Princess Alexandra and Queen of Sweden (what a straight posture of the last one!). I was completely put off by Batsheba scent (sorry to all admirers), it turns my stomach by earthy, cellar kind of aroma) But everyone's nose is different, thankfully! What sort of soil do you put into the containers, Ken, and what feed do you use?.. I just noticed some roses were unusually thin, woder if it is the "type" or they need something.

Hi Molly you have really time your visit to perfection as most of the rose would have been in flower. My trip to the gardens was purely a visit and see some of the rose that I haven’t seen before so didn’t end up buying anything. My sister has Shropshire lad in her garden and it smell lovely. I just had a look at Trevor white as they normally stock a few retired da roses, unfortunately they haven’t got them. I did put an order for Evelyn and Abraham Darby. Gabriel oak would be a good choice not so is queen of Sweden. Bathsheba’s fragrant is not to everyone’s liking, has a damp myrrh scent which I really like. I remember seeing Darwin but don’t recall having a strong scent . I feed I roses with top rose twice a year. Liquid feed my potted roses with boost ( liquid fertiliser) and spray all my roses with Uncle toms tonic, which they will obsorbes the nutrients through their leaves. My potted roses have been in the same soil for few years, I remember they were mixture of multi purpose compost and John inns No3.

You must be very pleased with how good the garden is looking now - the result of a lot of hard work on your part, and the sunshine helps! This weekend I forced my wife to walk around and sniff all the David Austin roses in a garden centre - do you think this counts as marital abuse? Of the ones we don't have in the garden (yet?) Wollerton Old Hall impressed us both with its strong fragrance, which we agreed was like liquorice, and we also liked Sceptered Isle's strong myrrh scent. Mum in a Million as you say has a beautiful fragrance too. Did you see the Blush Noisette in Jay Jay's video today? - backs up my opinion/recommendation I think. Your Penelope Lively duo demonstrates that performance can vary greatly between two of the same rose, and we should be careful not generalise too rigidly based on our experience with one example in one situation. It's always interesting to see your garden, particularly to see roses I don't know, or how roses I do know cope in different situations, and maybe pick up ideas and recommendations. I think we all have to be careful about getting too obsessive about our "preciouses" though - people might think we are fanatics who've lost the plot. We know we are qute sane, but other people can be a bit odd, don't you find?

Hi Nik, yes I’m pleased with how the garden has turned out. All the time and money has been well spent. I always thought you were the victim of roses abuse. I love my life more to even consider enforcing such a thing.
If only I knew WOH was fragrant, I would have bought more, yes the fragrance of WOH and sceptre truly is another level of potency but not to everyone’s nose pallet.
Yes how Jay Jay and Peter connected is pretty unbelievable, his Blush noisette is stunning like you said. And I have finally managed to get hold of Abraham Darby and few others for next year, my list is now truly complete .

Hasn't it be lovely weather? I've been in my garden for most of the day planting containers with bedding plants. I always sow too many seeds thinking they won't germinate and then they prove me wrong. On top of this, I get carried away and buy loads of summer bedding plants from the garden centre then get them home and think where am I going to put them! Looking at the amount of buds on your roses, I think you are going to have beautiful flowers for a very long time. Love the story about New Dawn. @@calittlegarden-3311 😂 at least you tried. Some times we can only choose one or the other and can’t have both. You should stick to what you are good at don’t listen to other people’s opinion.

Thank Gavin, really glad the first tour is out the way. Been impatiently waiting for a decent flush of flowers and so glad the weather finally held up.
