"What gets bigger the more you take away"
A hole...
That's the moment i realized that they were not just NPCs to help you upgrade your gear. That their lives meant something in that world and its story.
It almost made me cry no joke.
What's heartbreaking to me is that the creators of the game were very intentional in crafting a narrative of a character that gave and gave and gave but received nothing in return, and in the end lose everything. Erik Williams, the game's director, said in a commentary that the allegory they used for Sindri's character is The Giving Tree, a children's book about a sentient tree that gives endless care and gifts to a young boy until in the end the tree is nothing but a stump. To quote Erik, Sindri in this scene is the stump. He has nothing left.
Well he got bunch of quicksilver for all that trading :D

@@keithredacted8154 ah i see, very well then.
It sucks that Brok had to die, but this is EXACTLY what Kratos was trying to teach Atreus about the consequences of war. The writers did an AMAZING job with this.
Atreus is so naïve to think that war is the only solution…
@@aaronjohnson1286 there are always have choices, but that lad chosen to start the war
Atreus got a taste of what his father did when he was in greece. Screwing over others.
@@Cloo_studio only difference is hopefully atreus and his soon to be wife don't suffer what kratos did during his first marriage. And family
@Prince Zane that will depend on what direction Santa Monica studios goes. As far as what the next game will take place, Atreus will be searching for the remaining Giants. So I doubt he will be looking for any possible life partners. Unless he stays with Angrboda.
The small part that also hit me in the feels was when Atreus says "I thought we were his family" and Kratos replies "we were"
We're so used to seeing Kratos as some big ole grump free of emotion, and that one line shows how even though the dwarves have always come off as an annoyance to him he still saw them as family and had love for them.
To put the (very sad) cherry on top, when Atreus says "I thought we were his family", if you pay close attention, some "panting" can be heard from Sindri's bench. That's not "panting", that's whatever little Sindri let us hear from his sobbing.

The sindri we knew died with brok
I cant imagine the pain Sindri must feel after feuding with his brother for so many years then making amends with him only to lose him again
Kratos can relate
Sindri didn't even do that. He didn't tell Brok he already died even when Brok insinuating it to him, he just won't admit.
The guilt of denying his brother a good afterlife and taking amend or saying sorry is probably what makes him like that.

Great acting by all involved but my word sindris va absolutely killed it here. You can feel the pain and sadness with every word and breath.
The cold bitter anger, the grief.... Godamn...
This part absolutely killed me. Adam J Harrington nailed the impression of a heartbroken, mourning, and incredibly disillusioned person. Nothing Sindri said was wrong, either, and that's what really made it hurt the worst. Throughout the entire game, Atreus took advantage of Sindri's kindness more and more, and the person punished the most for it was Sindri. Brok's death hurt everyone, but it killed a piece of Sindri. And it shows here, in this voice acting.
Atreus didn't take advantage of sindri. Aureus treats him like his uncle as he mention in the game.
Tyr aka odin was there before Atreus was taking risks and sindri was helping him of his own accord at that moment
@@garouplays4324 Took Sindri for granted would be a better way of putting it.
@@garouplays4324 he took him for granted, silly dwarf that would be there no matter how bad you treated him, and don't kid around, he did treat him kidna bad, hid shit from him, mauled him to escape, ect, ect.
Well, I think Sindri is just hurting really bad. Like, everyone was fooled by Odin, not one of the crew knew what was up until "Tyre" accidentally called Atraus, Loki and even then, only one of them picked up on that. Even if we try to pin it on Atreus because he was looking for Tyre but keep in mind the only reason they found "Tyre" was thanks to Odin's manipulation. The whole thing was a trap in order to get Odin into the team's inner circle.
I definitely wouldn't say everything he said was true since he's saying these things with a broken heart, he has nothing but bitter words and blame on his mind. He's clearly not thinking this stuff with a clear head and after seeing him at the end of the game, I think he's broken. I don't think there's gonna be any getting better from what happened to him.
Even when he's breaking, he still tried to protect atreus from thrud shows deep down he still cares about atreus but its covered with vengeance

The will find anyone remotely at fault to blame to distance themself from them because they remind them of that event. Based on this reaction, I'm not sure he will ever recover from his grief.
@@coyote4961 I dunno, Atreus dragged him along every time he snuck out without much regard for what Sindri wanted, Sindri was just too nice to push back which built up the resentment
the way the actor says "...not even my family" always breaks me, that's amazing acting
The saddest thing is how Broks death completely changed Sindi. He no longer wears his gloves or fusses over cleanliness. He’s completely broken to his core and just doesn’t care anymore
When Sindri says “and now what have I got!?” Followed by “not even my family” as he leans down next to brok… I can’t even begin to understand the pain Sindri is in, but I can understand Kratos. To lose a friend, and to have their sibling blame you in their pain. Cuts deep.
When Sindri says "This is what sorry looks like!" he isn't talking about Atreus he's talking about himself.Underneath it all he knows it wasn't Atreus's fault. Sindri blames himself more than anyone for what happened to Brok. If he had just left well enough alone the first time Brok would have at least had an afterlife but he didn't and now Brok is truly gone. 😢
Damn. I played God Of War and the moment I met Sindri, I completely respect him because of how polite of him when meeting Kratos and Atreus for the first time. Even I prefer talking to Sindri rather than Brok.

It’s amazing to see how understanding and patient a person Kratos has become, both to Sindri and Atreus. Before he probably would’ve shouted at Sindri or scolded Atreus, but now he was willing to let Sindri vent his anger and mourn for Brok and comfort his son.
Kratos of old wouldn't have bothered to visit Sindri at all after Brok's death.
Kratos knew Sindri was right on many points and that Atreus had to learn the consequences of his eagerness to start Ragnorak. So he stays out of it letting Sindri vent his anger and telling him “mourn how you wish” and comforts his son now that he realizes his mistakes. He was both a good man and a good father to both Sindri and Atreus.
tbh when kratos lost a brother he went to war against his father and ended up destroying his whole homeland. He understands sindri's pain more than anyone.

As painful as this is, I admire the fact that this was built up ever since the 2018 game. Atreus' ego trip from the first one was the first stepping stone that led to this break in their friendship, and even though he genuinely cared about Brok and Sindri, his impulsiveness and ambitions are the reason the latter wants nothing to do with him or his father anymore.
Yea Atreus didn’t intend to but his eagerness to start a war led to him being inconsiderate of Sindri and took advantage of him.
Bravo! I thought about that too! The impulsiveness Loki had when he found out he was a god in 2018, how he completely dismissed the dwarves feud. Loki was too young to understand the importance of family back then, he was still attached to his mom. Even tho he understood emotions thru her, he never understood the extent of having a family and the cost it requires to keep them safe. The disregard is shown leading up to this exact moment, Sindri kept secrets to protect Brok because Brok was THAT important to him, it sucks that Sindri opened up to Loki about his secret but now that he's gone, what's the use of trying to make everything work when he doesn't have his brother?

That sword Sindri was forging 00:30 was the same one he later used during the battles of Ragnarok. I can't help but notice how plain and unadorned it is compared to his normal level of craftmanship (like his armor). A crude thing, hammered into shape not 10 paces from the body of his dead brother for the sole purpose of vengeance. It is mentioned in the game that the dwarves can forge strange things, like a breastplate made of dog's barks or the sound of the wind incorporated into the Draupnir Spear. Makes me wonder how powerful a sword imbued with the grief of a brother lost will be. Don't know if Sindri named that weapon, but Aumleikr seems apt. *Misery.*
“And now what have I got?! … not even my family…”
Utterly heartbreaking.
Really impactful scene I did not expect Sindri's character to change like this, though I did expect one of the dwarves to die at some point
So true. In fact, I thought that he was the one who would die for beeing such a nice character but I didn't consider that It would be worst to watch him turned into this vengeful being.

The thing is if losing Brok wasn’t enough to crush you seeing the aftermath for Sindri finishes the job. Such a heartbreaking end for two loveable characters
Seeing Sindri end up like this really breaks my heart. Characters die in things all the time, but showing how truly broken Sindri is after losing Brok make it feel so realistic and that much more awful. I'll miss seeing both of them in the game

I think something that is also heartbreaking is how Sindri ignored one of Brok’s final wishes: “But y’gotta stop. Y’gotta let go.”

seeing his voice break as he's shouting about all he's done for them really sold this scene. He's so mad at them and for a good reason, but having to feel anger towards someone you once cared for feels like it would hurt both ways. I also felt his whimpering grew stronger when atreus said "I thought we were his family too" because he knows he's also destroying his ties with them because he can't forgive them. I love how the game ended with the same consequences like the last 2018 one. Freya lost her son, and Sindri lost his brother. While in the end, someone who has been the closest to you ended up despised you because you just "Robbed" their everything.
But the difference is while Baldur openly hated and did not forgive Freya for what she did to him and wanted to kill her, Brok loved his brother greatly even if he was gruff toward him and did not want to see him in pain, even forgiving Sindri for his careless mistake.

Would've been better if you didn't spoil yourself, but hey, you do you pal.
@D DOG Same to you.
When I heard Sindri say f*ck and creating a sword bare handed, it never hurted this much seeing anyone so broken for a loss
Was not expecting this level of emotional honesty from a video game. Scene hit me like a train.
A small bit I liked during this exchange was Sindri's rebuttal to Kratos when he says "We were all fooled" by saying "Oh, but some of us were bigger fools than others". Saying "This happened to all of us" is often used as a way to justify everyone feeling the same level of pain or dissappointment, but because Kratos, Atreus, Sindri, and really everyone else are under different circumstances, it can't possibly be the same. To Kratos, this is Odin getting one over him, to Atreus, this is also feeling how untrustworthy Odin is on a more direct level, rather than just being told over and over, but to Sindri, it's the loss of a loved one because of what he now feels is a betrayal by another loved one, coupled to the full realisation that Atreus has been doing nothing but taking to the point where Sindri is now losing things that are not just materialistic, as he now has lost Brok AND his trust in the boy.
Now whether Sindri is in the right or wrong is usually a topic for debate, but I like that he deflects the usual excuse of "We were all tricked", because in the Dwarf's mind, yes, all of them were tricked by Odin, but only Sindri was tricked by Loki.
Sindri easily forgave atreus when he was a cocky mean kid. He said something unforgivable in the first game yet sindri forgave him the moment he realized his mistake and said sorry. Atreus said will you forgive me and his response is already have. I hope when the time comes sindri and atreus are reunited again as family.
Perhaps (no way to predict what the series writers will do.)
But Sindri befriended Atreus due to having respect for his mother, and to be fair...he is angry and in mourning over a recent tragedy.
Kratos knows that we "grieve in our own way" (hence why Kratos allowed Sindri's outburst towards his son. He understands his anger, and can't be reasoned with at this stage.)
sindri is full of hatred
I Remember that part
atreus the jerk
it is one thing to say bad things about him and his brother and quite another is that he died because of him
is Sad, unfair but is the true
Atreus needs to really take to heart the lesson Kratos tries teaching him over and over in regards to being reckless in war as it always has a price. Even w his apology he is being naive w the “family” bit. No kid, you screwed up and don’t get automatically forgiven, you need to really understand how bad a screw up you’ve been.
There are some relationships that are permanently broken. The best course is to move on and accept that it can't be fix
It's really scary watching how a kind soul can become the most unforgiving person
That "not even my family" hits hard the voice actor nailed it
Anyone else notice how sindris situation is a reference to the giving tree, he gave and he gave and kept giving till he had nothing left...
Yes but sindri has his part to blame to
@@Freethinker_94 How is sindris to blame??? Kratos and Atreus are the ones who brought Odin into his home? Sindris even said he didn't want Tyr there at first but no one wanted to listen to him.
You heard one of the show's creators say this, you did not at all think of him being similiar to that story yourself
@@rdc489 Nope, I have yet to see someone else say this, and note I said this awhile ago
Man this is heartbreaking, I hope they give him some closure, see things ending like that for Sindri is just so sad 😔😞
By far one of the most amazing performance among everyone in this franchise. The voice actor Dick an amazing job. My god
I can't just listen to Sindri.
It realy hurt my soul. The ones that light the brightest. Cast the darkest shadow.
VA is just somehow make it personal. Great performance.
There is a subtle pause where sindri glances down considering his next words before telling Atreus to fuck off. It’s a triumph of the voice acting and design team working in tandem.
Another really subtle detail is how the entire series the dwarves (even brok) go through extreme lengths to never show their ability to teleport. After broks death Sindri no longer cares if others ascertain the workings of that magic. It feels like if brok was willing to go through such lengths to hide it then it must be a vulnerability if figured out. My take is Sindri has a death wish.
so that explains how they are available in every workshop when you explore around
Damn, from a pure hearted, loveable dwarf to a bitter, vengeful one. He really do love his brother Brok.😭 My heart is with you Sindri.🙏
Watching him in that state and the whole situation itself hurts more than any weapon
Such a great scene. The music is on point as well
God, I can't help but feel for Sindri the whole game; he was such a nice person who just wanted to help every step of the way. He offers his home, stuff, and everything else, and in the end, he loses what he loves the most.
20 out of 10 voice acting, he brought sadness and anger out so perfectly
This is simply one of the best scenes I've ever seen in a video game. Amazing everything. Animation, writing, cinematography, line delivery. It's incredibly powerful.
His brother's death made him forget all his fears and turned him into a true blacksmith
That's bit rude. He was already a true blacksmith.
He just got over his germophobia.
@@MaiconDouglas-ik6qs oh please blacksmiths deal with germs all the time
@@Philthorn people don't choose their phobias my man.
If anything, just shows how skilled he was, working with a stupid amount of hygiene, and he took pride on that too.
Eren Yeager pfp where?!
@THE INVISIBLE WARRIOR it's rude to assume he wasn't before
Seeing someone so kind broken is horrible.
Happens often
Sindri is definitely going to be the final boss in dlc/sequel
No Sequel
This is it.
God of War Ragnarok is the last game of the GoW series set in Norse mythology.
DLC maybe
I don't think so, Sindri just is pissed off. Soon he will forgiven Atreus and Kratos.
He just pissed Atreus for letting Odin in Tyr disguise kill brok and he already break Odin’s soul with his hammer at the end for revenge
Looking back at this game (and this scene) again made me think of something. A detail which may or may not be amazing foreshadowing. Do you remember that bear Atreus killed at the beginning of the game? His grief allowed him to turn into Björn, where he was not himself and killed an animal, something he loved. In other words, his (inadvertent) actions allowed something he cared about to die, much like how his search for Týr inadvertently got Brok killed.
That alone would have been enough, but look at the two bear cubs' reactions to Atreus (and Kratos). One is nuzzling the corpse, almost begging it to wake up, while the other is highly aggressive and lashes out at Atreus, much like how Sindri (at first) is in denial of Brok dying again ("Maybe if I go back to the lake?") and then him getting angry and bitter at Atreus (the video). In fact, just before that dreaded conversation in this video, we see that exact same bear corpse.
You can hear sindri start to cry when atreus says "I thought we were his family too".
“I thought we were his family.” “We were”
Takes a lot to make me tear up.
This does it.
That "get the fuck outta my sight" really hurt...
Am I the only who felt like I lost two friends in this game? Even with the ending, it still hurts that I lost them.
brok is not just dead he is gone nothing is left of him
The last game that really hit me was The Last of Us with Joel losing his daughter. Now I can confirm this is the latest most heartbreaking one for me. What a masterpiece of a game.
When you realized your expectations of death from one of the dwarves is not one from being killed, but rather the one who have truly lost everything... 😢
He's become like a combination of Brok and Freya in some way, a kind hearted, timid and germaphobic dwarven blacksmith now a rude, depressed and dirty shell of his former self.
His story is so depressing. I couldn't imagine losing my brother, every second would be confusion and every dream would be a nightmare, I'm tearing up just thinking about what it'd be without him.
You know Sindri is completely broken when he doesn’t even care about the germs.
"And now what have I got? Not even my family" the way his voice started to break when this sentence started and how it just broke into a momentary crying on the seccond half hit me like a fucking truck, specially because I had a recent loss in my life (my mother during COVID).
I know far too well how much it fucking hurts to touch subjects like that, specially when the loss is that fresh and how it comes out in your voice. The VAs on this game were just top tier and the story was also very good, this game was a friggin rolercoaster ride when it came down to feelings.
I believe Kratos’s quote was rather important too. “Mourn how you wish” as if he’s saying to Sindri “We get it dude, but you’re taking it out on the wrong one, you’ll realise when you’ve mourned.” The implications to me may be overthink but still, I like to think he was trying to push Sindri to let himself heal best as he could but also not lose sight of why this happened.
Sindri And Brok created Thors Hammar and Fayes Axe. Both are classified as super weapons before he cared about spreading good in the world. Now, he does not and didn't even look slightly phased when he hurt those people at Asgard's walls. It doesn't seem like he's sworn off creating weapons, so anyone who thinks Sindri in his mental state isn't much of a threat to anyone, remember the tool used to genocide the giants was him trying to create a weapon for good. Imagine what he could create now without his high moral compass.
"I...I thought we were his family, too."
"...we were."
When he started naming the things he gave them it was sooooo sad🥲
I read a comment somewhere about what happened to sinderi after brok died. "Deep down sinderi knows it wasnt truly their fault. Right now he's just to angry to care."
