    The epic combo is changeling, mask of many faces and actor feat together. Mask of many faces is awsome, but you are limited to a creature near your own size. The changeling can alter size between small and madium, but not alter clothes. Combine those two and you are insanely good at infiltration. Add actor feat on top of that and things will just be crazy good.

      I forgot about size changing! But yeah, that does add an even deeper layer to the deception

      I'm going mask of many faces but instead of actor feat I'm just going kenku and will try to listen to my target talk a while before taking his Identity(maybe just capture him and force him to say specific phrases I could use).

    2 levels of Warlock to get mask of many faces, soul knife rogue for the rest of the build. Get to add 1d6 to any skill or tool in which you have proficiency. You also don't need any weapons to make this build work. I would also try to get eyes of the rune keeper so you can read any written language. Perfect for gathering information.
    Really enjoying your videos 😊.

    My favorite way of doing this is based on recreating the T-1000 from terminator 2. It goes hexblade 3 to 5/ eloquence bard x. You will need the actor feat, the charlatan background, and to be a plasmoid. The hexblade/blade pact gives you mask of many faces, and a weapon that you can choose the form of. Eloquence bard gives you expertise in deception and the silver tongue ability. Plasmoid gives you amorphous for that full shape changing and that T-1000 flavor. If you take improved pact weapon and armor of shadows this becomes what I call a “naked build” you don’t really need gear to be fully functional.

    I know this is a year old, but I just made a character for a new campaign that runs around the concept. Using changeling as the race, with Soul knife rogue and Eloquence bard. And since we're starting at level 11, I picked up the glamour studded leather armor. Combo the built in Telepathy from soul knife rogue, with detect thoughts, and charm spells. there's not a lot in a spy role that the character can't really do, along with 6 expertise skills.

    I played a build based around the Actor Feat + Disguise self combo all the way to level 16 in a campaign that just wrapped up. It was the most fun I’ve ever had as a character. It was a homebrew bard subclass (but I would’ve taken whispers if I couldn’t have don’t homebrew), with bard all the way. Actor feat plus disguise self, plus expertise in deception, plus suggestion (“answer my questions truthfully or my fighter will beat you up”, is surprisingly effective as a reasonable suggestion) with Scrying, dream, and a regular disguise kit, I was super effective at gather info and blending it. I never failed a deception check until session 60 out of 61. Very cool to see someone make a video about such a similar build!

    • @smilesschemes
      @smilesschemes  Год назад

      Wow, that's awesome! It's really cool seeing something similar to this build work out so well in an actual game. I'm also just blown away that your build was blessed by mechanics and die rolls for almost the entire game. Congrats on finishing the campaign!

  • @zombinekiller
    @zombinekiller Год назад +3

    Eloquence bard is good here too. Silver tongue and expertise in deception is like always rolling a 21 on this check. Plasmoid is a good race if you like your shapeshifters to make different shapes.

    I love this build idea. Eloquence bard or any bard tbh. Eldritch adept for mask of many faces. Illusion yourself as someone, use the friends cantrips. Get whatever you can with your advantage and redic high deception and performance and when the spell wears off they'll think whoever you disguised as cast the spell on them.

    Im really liking this build idea, im planning on making a changeling who has schizophrenia and dosent have a true identity instead just changing its look either subconsciously or consciously, also having an existential crisis after killing someone and seeing their entire life in an instant while becoming them for an hour thanks to college of whispers, after the warlock and bard levels im definitely going to go into echo knight the rest of the way and the echo will be souls of the people that my character killed that will haunt them, i love giving my charecters intense trauma :P

      @smilesschemes  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah. Keen mind would go so hard with this. Imagine this with Mantle of Secrets. You get access to all their casual information. And then with Keen Mind you can remember that extra information. Normally Mantle of Secrets is an ability that simply lets you "know" things about the person for when it's relevant. However, with Keen Mind, you can just flood yourself with information, and then remember it. Just because you lose access to the memories and information after the ability, it doesn't mean you can't remember things you learned while in that state.

  • @garyboyles5762
    @garyboyles5762 8 месяцев назад +1

    Say changeling: physically shapes one way, disguise kit another, mask of faces into another, hat of disguise. 4 layers of disguise. Add in elo bard, expertise in deception and persuasion, 1 level peace cleric, bless and bond, inspiration adding 3d4 to the check that you can only roll 10+? Not only that, but further rounds you can always roll attacks or saving throws constantly. Elo11/bladelock 5/gloom3/1peace support, but also shoots arrows and pretty good with 3 weapon attacks, blade curse making them crit 19s, deal +cha to hit and damage, holy buffed with 2d6R per strike(3). Ability to smite as well, +1d6perLvL, Wis bonus to initiative. Good berry, Aid, Hero's Feast, Find greater steed and holy weapon...

    • @smilesschemes
      @smilesschemes  11 месяцев назад

      I would say that the poisoner feat would be a must. I briefly talked about a dip into warlock for mask of many faces, I would even go a bit further to pick up pact of the chain to get an imp or a sprite familiar. They can turn invisible, and can do some lovely poisoning as well

  • @morganpetros9635

    If you want to play an assassin, you definitely want some levels in rogue if only for Sneak Attack ... though you might want to consider Soulknife for the ability to add Psi dice to skill checks. One might also want to consider Lore bard for the extra skills. In fact, right now I'm thinking Soulknife 11+ (Reliable Talent & four skill expertise)/Lore bard 3 (+2 expertise,. +4 skill proficiencies, some utility spellcasting)/literally any warlock 2 (Mask of Many Faces, possibly Beguiling Influence) would make not only an effective "Faceless One" but also one hell of a skill monkey ... 🤣
