I guess I don't need to explain to anyone watching this video and reading the comments, that we're all in a very bummer, dark time with our Bimmers right now... Oh man, not the best place to have to be on youtube right now.
About how much did you spend on all of this? The parts seals and tools… was it better then to take it to a shop?
All parts and tools that I needed for this cost just around $4,000. BMW quoted me $12,000 for the repair and a local independent shop quoted $4500. Personally, I'd say the tools I acquired were worth the investment as I still use many of them for other jobs to this day. If you skip out on the "QuickJacks" lift system, you can probably get away with this job on an E60 XI for around $2500 in parts and tools. I did replace every single aluminum bolt as well. I also ended up having to replace the passenger side front axle and a power steering hose as well. So if those aren't needed for your job, that reduces the cost as well.
My belt is making noise on cold starts, I need to do this asap on my N54 .They also make a block off plate to prevent it from going into the motor
Hey Man. I have 535xi 2008 bmw. It happened to me. Auto repair place charge me 4k. is that fair price?
Sorry to hear that. But honestly with all the labor and if they replace all the bolts as well, that's a pretty good deal and I'd take it. Have them replace the oil pump bolts too while they're in there, those fail eventually.
So were your cam ledges okay? I'm dealing with the same issue right now.
As far as I could tell, there was no major scoring and there's no werid sounds. Unfortunately I didn't have the tool to keep timing correct, so I never removed the cams to inspect them or the ledges. My guess is if you didn't run the motor very long after the belt was ingested, your ledges are likely fine.
@@FoulNews well I know you were saying yours was only drove like 20 miles after it happened, imma say mine was drove maybe 80 miles or so. But there still arent any weird noises or anything. I'm starting this exact process next weekend.
@@TimmySCVM good luck! Hopefully nothing is damaged at all. I'd recommend to replace the oil pump bolts too, while you're in there. I've been reading more and more stories of those bolts backing themselves out on N54s lately.
ForeverInPeril2012 hey what happen to yours? I drove about 30 min after steering got stuff & battery light came on
Hey guys, I just bought a non running 06 530xi for 1300 and an thinking it was a terrible idea. It was running and has belt on but showing oil leak signs everywhere. Belt still on but dealer said belt pieces found soooooo I'm wondering if that automatically means engine gone?
Damn near same situation except i dont know where im at with the 335. Shredded a belt and drove my wrx (winter car) and she blew out the clutch master cyl within 2 days. Im dropping the pan in a few days. The like inner liner on the crank seal seemed pretty far inward, so im gunna double check. At least im not the only one that gets hit with the bad luck
I don't fully understand your jammed driveshaft. Did it not go all the way in? Or was it fitted earlier and you then couldn't get it out. Cheap aftermarket parts can be a problem...
The c-clip on the end if the axle got caught in the front diff before fully being installed. That can happen sometimes, so when installing it's best to really soak it in diff fluid and make sure the opening of the clip is faced upwards when pushing the axle in. Yes, cheap parts are an issue most of the time, I bought that axle just to finally get the car out. So far the replacement one has been solid with a number of hard launches.
Did you reuse the (6) E10 crank pulley bolts? Any loctite?
Yes, I reused them. Since they're steel, it's okay to reuse them unless they are damaged. I did not use any loctite and just followed the torque procedure from the NEWTIS site.
My friend said to use loctite you think it’s ok to use it on those bolts?
@@tonytrinh5815 I don't think it would hurt anything, just might make it a pain to take off at a later time if needed. www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e60-535xi-lim/repair-manuals/11-engine/11-23-vibration-damper/5prTbK5
Foul News how do you get the crank pulley on, kind of being a pita from the top lol
@@tonytrinh5815 It's a pain no matter how you do it lol. My suggestion would be to look at the crank, make note of at least one bolt hole and then put a bolt in the pulley itself and try to get that bolt to the closest hole and thread it in there. The rest are much easier once the first is on.
Good job bro not even bmw dealer was able to do that big ass job 🤙
Last night my belt got shredded in the freeway. Once i managed to slow the car around 20(was traveling around 80, was not letting me shut the car off) it let me shut it off. Coast the car of the highway about to take out the crank pulley hopefully it did not go thru it was only seconds from where I felt the steering get really stiff..
lpa187 That’s unfortunate! Hopefully the crank seal is in tact when you pull the crank pulley!
Foul News unfortunately it's not.. it ripped just a little.. so I gotta drop the oil pan too and valve cover
@@lpa187 That sucks. Better safe than sorry though!
600 dollars later fixed my 335i. luckily belt didn’t get wrapped behind the crank pully
And all was needed was a new oil filter housing gasket and new belt.
Mechanic said there is a leak coming from the oil pan gasket now
I love beamers but crazy expensive to maintain swear
Yeah you definitely got lucky there! However on the 335i, the oil pan is like a weekend job since nothing major has to get removed. Hopefully that won't run you too much to get fixed. But yeah for sure, they are very costly to maintain. I normally try to stay ahead with preventitive maintenance, but when you miss something it really adds up quick!
I sold my 335i and bought a Lexus Es 350. Best decision I've ever made, I''m done with these german money hoggers. I bought the car for 11k, and put in 7k in repairs within a year of ownership. Yes the handling, acceleration and the driving experience was good but unless you're gona lease a new german car I don't think its worth all the headache. Either way, good luck man!
