Just bought a 2017 Silverado 2 days ago and drove it to work today. Low and behold, I get on the gas to pass a car on the freeway and BAM! CEL!! P2635 pops up on my scanner. I’m going to have to see what I can do about this. Definitely a great starting point thanks to this video
Glad it was helpful! This code is a royal pain to chase down, but in my case the active grille shutters as well as the in-tank pump were replaced. It's been over a month since the pump was replaced and the code hasn't come back...fingers crossed that it stays gone, haha. Good luck!
I just took mine to the shop to explain this same issue and they replaced the pump which didn’t work like I mentioned so that was free of charge. I also mentioned the sensor which was cheaper if all checks and now I’m gonna mention these. Thanks for the video!
My truck is a 2018 Silverado 5.3L Engine mods: L86 ported mouth (Only), LT5 throttle body, S&B cold air intake, MSD spark plug wires, 1 7/8 TSP headers, Y-pipe and dumped exhaust, lethal garage flex fuel 🌽, Mighty Mouse oil catch can And I have that code popping up and my tuner did mention the pressure is off. You still think I could be the shutters or will it actually be the fuel pump?
If you're actually having flow and/or pressure issues, that definitely points toward the pump itself going bad. The grille shutters are in the same diagnostic flow as the fuel pump but only cause the code, no fueling issues. How many miles are on your truck? If you're anywhere above 75,000 and you have the six speed, pull your transmission pan and check for metal. The torque converter clutch just started coming apart on mine at 113k and sent debris all through my transmission, and I'm facing a $6500 rebuild now. I have only towed with my truck like 3 times pulling a side by side, never abused, no burnouts, racing, etc and I've always used amsoil full synthetic...didn't matter. Service manager at the dealership where I bought the truck said this is a known issue with the shitty JMBX converters and he replaces 2-3 6L80's a month. If you don't have any metal in the pan yet, yank the stock converter out and put a billet sonnex or other aftermarket converter with a billet cover in there asap. $1000 for a converter is a hell of a lot better than a full rebuild. I'll have a video coming out about this soon...I'm still reeling from the bill I'm looking at. My truck is still drivable, but just barely...the trans is a ticking bomb.
Neighbor's 2016 Silverado had minor front end damage. Ever since fuel pump code (P2635) was popping up and also killing the battery overnight. All because of those stupid shutters binding.
Really interesting that the shutters and the fuel pump are so closely linked within the circuit...makes zero sense in my head but then again, I'm not an engineer lol. It's a huge load of crap that the shutters can't be deleted without a permanent CEL, or I'd have ripped them out and chucked them in the garbage years ago.
Damn.. I have a 2016 sierra with fuel pump low performance but the truck drives great, I've switched relays with another and code came back.. gonna try sensor I guess... I don't have the shutters, or any other codes
Without the shutters present to add to the complexity of the system, the pump itself more than likely is going bad. Mine never actually stranded me and it always seemed to run decently, but it was definitely starting to crap out toward the end before the dealership finally replaced it. It started becoming really sluggish on the highway, especially going up steep grades. Hate to say it, but a new pump is probably the ticket here.
The list of potential causes for this code is too long to make a recommendation. You could buy a fuel pump and have it installed, but there's no guarantee it will solve the issue. Your best option is, unfortunately, taking it to a shop and having it properly diagnosed.
@@Kleiberltx no worries, sorry I don't have a better answer for you. Replacing the fuel pump on my truck completely solved my issue, but I've heard from several people on here that replacing the fuel pump didn't work for them. Since the pump itself is pretty expensive and kind of a pain to replace, it's one of those things that really needs the correct diagnosis before you go throwing money at it, you know?

Thanks for the update. This should save Silverado owners some grief and cash.

@@AllThingsMech right on, yes if I notice any changes I'll go straight to a pump replacement, so far drives like new still.
Do 2015 Silverados have these?
I believe the shutters were introduced on the 2017+ trucks.
I have the same problem but I don’t have warranty on the truck anymore!!! What should I do?

👉🏽 Injector going bad
It was the fuel pump. Replaced under our extended warranty, no issues since.
