Thanks for all the kind words! This is a pretty straightforward track, as far as drumming goes… but what matters is the groove and feel, and playing a Bonham-esque kit makes it all the more fun! I just wanted to film part of our soundcheck to hear the snare as it sounded pretty darn good that day! (I bring 5 snares to these shows and ask the guys which one is the best. This time, it was the Ludwig Supra 6.5 x14. Supras always rule, as they are probably the best snare ever as far as I’m concerned. But the heads and the molecules in the air make every day a new thing as far as tone goes… Anyhow, what with all the insane technical drumming on line now, it’s nice to hear your kind words when I’m doing nothing more than just trying to play the song well, tune the drums ok, and groove…. Drum On! 🥁👍🏼
And yeah: the new “technical online drumming” is something else. Doesn’t resonate with me at all. When groove, swing and feel isn’t the essence of drumming, then it’s not drumming to me. It becomes more like a video game and expertise in “Guitar Hero”. Music through clinical techniques - no thanks ✌🏻😂
Fellow Bri, so well done (full kit sound and your playing), but as others have said - That snare is wonderfully spot on! And all the fills are just terrific.. 👍🤘
Awesome, Brian! You were and still are actually my drum hero when I was growing up. I still remember when I first saw you play with P&G and Mr. Salas back in the 90’s.
Have always loved your drumming. Great feel & technique. As a bassist myself I love playing with drummers of your caliber...brings out my best bass playing. Ive always felt that any band you play with I consider you a great upgrade.
This is pretty cool to watch from the sidelines or should I say from the internet lol that sounds great dude 🥁or at least from my iPad drums sound great And as always your making them drum talk love it ❤️🙏🏻🥁
Excellent snare sound!!!! Really nailed it. Did you use any additional muffling besides the Emperor X? Tone control or other dampening? That head is pretty thick so curious.
@@Briantichydrums I’ve heard a rumor about Bonham and/or AVH using full thickness batter heads on the snare side head. Have you ever messed around with that? I exclusively do it for 80s VH stuff because it cuts down on the snappiness in the room that you don’t hear in the multitracks..
I had heard that too and tried it a few years ago and , it sounded bad! Ha.. I think it may be a rumor bc Alex had used lots of gaff on the top of on the underside of batter head, so I think people ran with it and made up new, exaggerated stories … but, I could be wrong … but I’ve never heard a snare drum w a batter head on bottom that sounded good..🥁👍🏼
Honestly, very few (if any) drummers out there match Bonham’s sound and style they way you do. Insane.
