Its so interesting looking at what his career would have been if things worked out differently. If atlantic wasnt dumb as shit.
There are also some tracks that were given to other artists instead that became hits. Airplanes was originally intented for him, look how big that got n it was given to b.o.b. Even got a remix from Eminem. Then just the way you are, and nothin on you were also meant to be lupe's originally, n were given to bruno mars n b.o.b. Short answer: He didn't sell out and dumb down his rhymes to go commercial. #artisticintegrity
Indeed. He actually practiced what he preached.
But you don’t have to “sell out” to go commercial. You can still make bangers and keep it real. Kendrick and Cole for example, are household names with all the integrity in the world. We know Lupe gained notoriety with Kick Push and he don’t even skate.
@@stevienguyen2047 You for real bro? Cole only just starting to come back from commercial rap and getting into his woke shit again but even he using sublims to hide it from the industry. And Kendrick never speaks on the shit that Lupe touch on. Never.

Make sure you use rap genius 😂
The greatest rapper of all time, T&Y and Drogas wave was highly overlooked and they where his greatest albums without a doubt. First 2 albums were legendary but the way he has grown and improved especially in his bars shows in his new projects. Very unfortunate for Lupe to release his first 2 albums at a time where he was getting overlooked because of the gangster image that was present from other rappers and now since we are in the age of mumble rap, most likely a conscience rapper with overwhelming bars will get overlooked. I don't think lupe will ever get the recognition he deserves.
Almost all lyrical rappers besides J Cole Kendrick and Eminem are all being overlooked completely. Just like you said it’s even 10x worse he is trying to do conscious rap now too. It’s so hard to stay true to yourself in this industry, especially if you try to do conscious rap.
Lupe is just ahead of his time and his music just goes over so many peoples heads.
Nothing happend. He just stepped away from the limelight. Released an incredible album in 2018, he's in a good place right now.

That type of % only exists with maybe less than a dozen albums in the history of hip hop for me. Nice Lupe breakdown. This would be a good video for casuals to get a better understanding of his career I personally already knew a lot of this stuff, one thing I did not know about was the rap group Da Pak and that record that he released with them. Basically didn't sign a 360 deal with Atlantic Records, didn't sign his life away, they said "Nah, son! You ain't gonna get to shine".
I was kind of shocked. I actually was one of the main dancers for his video Hey Lupe. I didn't even know he was going to make a music video for his mixtape songs, but he did. Anyways, I am honestly honored to be part of his legacy. He always kept real to his roots and never sold out. Respect to that.
*bumps DROGAS wave every day, but sees this video pop up on my feed* “like wth do you mean 😂”
I love you
Forreal.
Man I love Mural! The first time I heard it I listened to it all day, then I watched Grave of the fireflies. Every time I listen to Mural it reminds me of that movie. These two extremes of Beauty and sadness.
I actually really loved drogas lite, it was like lupe's kid A. Everyone was expecting one thing but got another. I look at it as a parody album of the current state of the music industry.
And yet, tracks like NGL are still heavy for the culture...
I love you by the way
Harvey Too Fresh lol woah there 😂😂
@@snikeziwevendle1468 no where
@@harveytoofresh8746 NGL gives me chills every time. That album is a sleeper and just shows if he wanted to he could be the biggest mainstream rapper in history.
Food & Liquor was leaked before it's official release date. It was illegally downloaded over nine million times. The official release sold 81k.
Tetsuo & Youth is a contender for the best conscious album of this generation.
As far as the What Happened, this is one of the more positive. It seems like the fans of Lupe Fiasco have a good journey for the most part following him. I really respect the fans who kept supporting him.
Lupe is my second favorite of all time behind Nas.
I can't believe that you didn't mention Put Em Up, off of Food & Liquor 2.
One of the best tracks on that joint.
Thank you for making this video!
Long Live (real) Hip Hop!!
Hold up... _Daydreaming_ didn't chart?! No, shit. I remember listening to that song as a kind. One of the best songs ever!
Love that song
I got put on to Lupe by a woman who i was her side dude. She met me on one of our get away from reality weekends we used to have and when she came to the room i had a playlist going that had like Mos, Slum Village, Common, Jean Grae so forth and so on. She was like "You listen to this?" She puts in this mixtape and Lupe was spazzing out i've been a fan ever since
