- How to clean a cowhide rug. In this video I teach you how to clean a cowhide rug using a Shopvac. To start I teach you how to vacuum the cowhide rug using the small open spade supplied with most vacuum cleaners. In this video I'm using a wet and dry vacuum to clean the rug. I also teach you how to remove dog urine or cat urine if your pet happens to pee on the rug using the wet vacuum and peroxide to neutralise the urine.
Full instructions on my shiny new cleaning website (along with all my tutorials broken down by category): cleaninghow.to...
I don`t believe it, about 2 years ago I searched desperately for a tutorial like this! My dog peed on my cowhide rug and as I could`nt find any video, I put it in the basement. 2 weeks ago I reorganized my basement and wanted to throw the rug away but a little voice in my head said I should not...am I glad! Thank you for this vid, now I can give it a try!
Love this!! Let me know how it goes :)
Why do I love this so much
I dunno but I do too :P
Hi, how would you recommend cleaning an area rug? I tried cleaning a basic area rug with just oxiclean, a brush and power washer and let air dry but afterwards I get the wet rug scent. Should I add fabric softener to the oxiclean or add laundry detergent? Any pointers would be appreciated.
czario bourne don’t pressure wash a rug, there’s no need and it will be soaking and very difficult to get dry quickly. I’ve a video about spot cleaning a wool rug which will teach you a good method.
Oh ok. I also have an upholstery extractor if that would help my situation.
czario bourne yes it would! Give it a good vacuum first!
Thank you for your responsiveness to my queries...appreciate it
czario bourne happy time help! Let me know how you get on!
I’m confused. Cleaning solution? Is it straight peroxide? Thanks love your channel. Thank you.
What strength peroxide are we taking about here?
Any suggestions if you don’t have a shopvac?
Anastasia Cox I’ve a velvet upholstery cleaning tutorial - that method will work but not as well!
Thank you for this video. How do I clean a large amount of dog vomit that’s lots of water?
Hey! My boyfriend and I use a bison pelt as a comforter and he's had it for about 8 years. We take it to the dry clean every once in awhile, but I was wondering if there was a way to clean it at home. Do you think this would be suitable with an animal pelt with such long hair? Thank you!
I didnt know a bison pelt was a thing until today but I've never wanted something more :P Watch my sheepskin cleaning tutorial that should work :)
@@CleaningHowTo thank you much! ❤️
Will try drycleaning
I have question...
Can you please tell me how should I store my Cowhide Rug...?
Should I fold it...?
Should I role it and lying it down on floor...?
Because I'm moving I just can not keep it in floor, so I have to keep it in my storage room, maybe fold in a plastic bag...?
Please give me advise.
Thank you in advance.
It depends how long it’s going to be stored for. If it were mine I’d roll it with a blanket/duvet inside and tie it.
How can I clean vintage cowhide leather chairs? No stains, only a strong stink of "staple" after being stored for several years in a garage. They had never stunk when they were a regular piece of furniture in my parents' house. Thanks in advance for any piece of advice.'
@@deborahricerca2508 leather chairs or cowhide like in the video? If like in the video the same method
@@CleaningHowTo cowhide, thanks a lot🌷
Hi There
Thanks for the video. Interesting. I left my hide out in the sun and now the back of it has dried up. I'd there a fix to this?
I’ve been told if you bend it back and forth it should relax but I’ve never done it so I can’t be certain.
So I just fleshed, salted, and smoked my first whole cowhide. I've got a few problems. Plan On it being a rug for my daughter but there is definitely a smell along with ripples. Any ideas or can I fallow this video and flatten it with some bricks and boards?
This is far beyond me skillset (though I'd love to do this and my in-laws have 100 semmental cows! I suspect steam and stretching may help and possibly oiling afterward but thats a total guess!
Thanks for this video. If I don't have a wet vac can I accomplish the same with just using towels to soak up the excess?
You could do a low moisture type clean; this video will teach you the method ruclips.net/video/cv7z3IGd2jU/видео.html
Will this also work on a zebra rug with a backing felt?
@@pattiwallen zebra is just a fancier cow I suppose 😂
I have a spot cleaning carpet shampooer, would this alright or will it leave it to wet? Our new puppy used my cowhide to pee on , I've been using the enzymes to stay on it but all I can smell is pee!
I'd try some peroxide and rinse it out!
Great video, thanks. What if I do not have a wet vac? Do I just go straight to air-drying outdoors? Or do you recommend I dab the excess water with a dry cloth or towel before hanging for air dry? Thank you.
Towel it off before drying :)
Thanks for this great video, it's very helpful! Is it ok to use clean water to rinse the soap mixture out before using the shop vac? Seems like removing the soap would be the best way to go.
Sure!
What can I do if I don’t have a wet vacuum?
@@pumpthebrakes towel it down.
I inherited a cowhide rug from a smoker and it reeks of cigarette smoke. Will this method work to remove the smoke smell? Or is there something else I can try?
Washing can only help. You might want to include some rubbing alcohol in the mix to help with the tar residues.
Would this work on a hairless cow hide?
@@riffraff0607 I don’t see why not but test it.
Can you scotch gaurd a animal rug?
Nothing better not pee on my rug
Ha - heres hoping!
I have hydrogen peroxide but I know peroxide bleaches...how does it not bleach the hair of the cowhide?
Always test it but the fibers are very stable in these rugs.
Will hydrogen peroxide work?
Yup, just rinse or neutralise it
Peroxide bleaches hair I thought
It does, but it can also be used to perform other tasks and the reaction can be halted.
Im here cus my dog threw up all over our cow skin rug and im losing MY MIND RN IT STINKS SO BAD😭😭😭😭
Use a bio washing powder/liquid on it :)
