I have an 8 month old pup and we live in the city so we don’t have a fenced in yard but we live about a 3 minute walk from a soccer field! I recently ordered a 30 ft leash for her because I don’t yet trust her to listen to me (it’s a work in progress!), and I’ve been taking her to the field the play fetch and it’s helped soooo much!
Oh my gosh, thank you for sharing that. I literally was just about to post a question asking about this, because my pup is also 8 months, and I am nervous to let him off leash in a dog park, or anywhere really. I will try that long leash thing.
This is one of the reasons why I continue to recommend you almost daily! I take my three Shih Tzu to the park every day and I’m commented to constantly about how good they are how well they listen and how sweet they are! I owe it all to you Zack! Granted one of them is 17 and probably didn’t need any more training he still has responded beautifully! The other two at 9 1/2 months and a year and a half are the most amazing dogs and it has brought such joy to my life! Thank you very much for sharing all of your knowledge. YOU ARE APPRECIATED 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏼😇💕🐶🐶🐶
Zak you should make more videos about getting a dog from a shelter. Too many people just assume everyone gets their dog from a breeder. Also, I've been looking for a good dog from a shelter for a while and it's hard so talk about that too. Sometimes shelters are very non inclusive and a first time owner like me or someone without a fenced in yard can't get one from a shelter because they are too strict with their requirements. I think more people need to know about things like this
That’s because dogs from the shelter will often have behavioural issues from being abandoned or abused or being in a shelter in general. They need a pet parent with experience who can handle these problems and won’t be giving the dog back to the shelter , because that would only worsen the dogs trust in humans.. But I’m sure if you keep talking to the shelter and showing interest and show that you educate yourself, they could maybe find the right dog for you after all. Keep trying keep learning! ✌🏻
I got my first dog from a shelter when she was 6 months. She’s a year and a half now. She definitely came with issues and it took her close to a year to even cuddle with me on the couch. If you plan on getting a dog from a shelter be prepared to work with them for the long haul in terms of their trauma and behavioral problems. But, they are definitely worth the extra love and care
His videos and approach won't help many dogs that have behavioral issues or are under socialized. He is only good for people starting from scratch with more natural confident dogs. There are plenty of other dog trainers that can help and be more sensitive to deal with rescued dogs. Search for Kikopup. She has amazing border collies and also rescued dogs that used to have severe behavior issues. And she managed them like a real pro and still very sensitive and gentle about it. :)

You guys are lucky enough to have this much open space and fresh air. I live in the Middle East where it's burning summer for about 6 months and not a lot of outdoor dog friendly places. My 4 month old rescue pup gets a bit hyper when I'm not able to take her out everyday (not to mention vets seem to advise against taking young pups out when their immune system is still developing) and starts chewing everything, or snapping at our ankles. Toilet training also poses a HUGE challenge with apartment living.
I live in Canada so my problem is it's too cold LOL For potty training, I take my puppy to the balcony with pee pads. It's outside, but easily accessible. Hopefully you have a balcony. If not, you can train them with a tray and pee pad and basically get them to use it like a litter box like cats.
I would love to have a place like this to play with my dog. Dog parks here are very rare and full of other dogs. And other places usually are not dog friendly.
You are totally correct in this. If your schedule allows, try do parks at off hours. Another option is Church parking lots are an option. So awesome to see Inertia grow. I have no idea how you have the time to do all of this training. My wife and I both work 8+ hours per day so we have limited time, especially in the short daylight days. We got our Border Collie recently and he is 3 and didn't have much social training before us so he has been a challenge.
Getting my black Labrador puppy in a couple of days and your videos have helped so much!! I may have watched all of your inertia videos in less than a week... oops, THANKYOU from Australia ✨
I love your videos. I’m a first time dog owner, we got a puppy and I was very nervous because I have NO clue what I’m doing and my fear was that our dog would pick up on that anxiety. But your videos are so practical and give me confidence, and our puppy has been very responsive.
I suggest using one of the soft frisbees rather than a plastic one. I have found it’s easier on the dogs mouth. I bought 3 recently for $10 on Amazon. Good video.
Funny enough, aside from working with pullers (those purple rings) I had never really "trained" my dog to fetch and one day she decided she wanted to bring back the ball and since then, she fetches really well. It's honestly all about my energy and how stoked I am. I find it fun? she finds it fun! This is kind of a fluke in my training, but I honestly just wanted play time with her to be about creating a bond rather than having her follow a set of rules. I think I need a frisbee now though...but I tried to make her go around me and she looks at me like "why?"
Long-time fan I was watching your videos six years ago when I got my GSD Stella. You really turned me from ok to pretty good. After some basic clarification on terms she really became an avid fetcher and it was our daily activity for years. Unfortunately she tore an ACL a couple years ago and we couldn't have it fixed, partially because it seemed unrealistic she wouldn't hurt it again because of some quirks she has. Now she can't really do anything without hurting it so I'm looking at amputation but it's still outside my budget right now. I hope to be able to have it done early next year. I think it has really hurt her feelings that our relationship has essentially changed so much and she doesn't understand why. Sorry for the shpeel guess I just needed to get it off my chest.
Without twice daily fetch my B.C. is very high strung. ( Paces, will only settle for a few minutes, always staring at me etc.) With it, she is as close to a perfect dog as possible. You're fortunate you can use a ball park for fetch. Ours are dog prohibited, if they are open at all.
Hey Zak, love the series, I have a Border collie 1y 9 months, great companion, tons of energy. Ren loves the Frisbee but sometimes gets bored with it (not to often). You mentioned Inertia sometimes gets bored with the frisbee. Have you tried any of the large herding balls or egg shaped ones. They are made of hard plastic so the dog can not cheat and just pick it up with their teeth, it forces the dog to move the ball with their nose or body. Ren loves them, we have him work the ball back to me. Not only does it relieve a lot of his energy in a short time it also really stimulates his mind, because of the concentration he needs to work the ball/egg back to my location. Maybe just a little suggestion from us, since you help us as dog owners so much.
What is your favorite dog frisbee? Some disc golf companies have dog lids in much tougher plastic that can stand up to dog teeth a lot longer. Try the Latitude 64 Bite. 👍🏼
"But she's also being with a human being, like me." .... I love how it kinda sounded like he was questioning whether he was human or not. Maybe he's an alien 👽
Zak I have been watching you fir sometime now.I love every thing I have seen.. Thank you so much for all the hard work you and you wife do. I have a Mini Aussie… And arthritis of the knees and hips so I’m not as agile and jumpy around as you are… My husband is of course when he comes home in the evenings… But during the day I feel so guilty she just sits and stares at me we do little things like I was tired to sit up and touch and talk to me little things like that but I know she’s so much more… Plus my next question was do you have DVDs on training I’m sure you do I’m just not finding them somewhere… Again thank you so much for all the work you both do.. 🙏
I love this series! Poppy, our 2 year old Collie, is not interested in the slightest with playing fetch, but she is so agile and energetic that I might try her again to see if she takes to it 😊
How do you safely and effectively give your dog a diet? How do you maintain the diet while training? And what do you do about or how do you ignore food begging? ..oh those puppy eyes 😍.
I think the toy being used for fetch is important to the dog’s interest. I had a Golden Retriever that had no interest in Frisbees but he would play fetch with tennis balls to the point where I would have to tell him to take a break otherwise he’d keep going. I would get tired of throwing the ball. I used to joke that Midas would die with a tennis ball in his mouth. He was over 14 years old when I had to have him put down in August, but contrary to what I believed, there was no tennis ball in his mouth.
Sorry you lost Midas. Our Golden, Miss B, will be the one dying with the frisbee in her mouth! She never took to a ball. She’s 12 this year and I know how much we’ll miss her when she’s gone. We’ve had three other Older dogs, a white Shepherd/Golden, a Great Pyrenees, and a Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever. All lived good long lives. Keep the good memories of your Midas with you.
lol that fluffy microphone ! I just got a 8 week old pup and she is a darling but very nippy - I'm going to have to check out the video on training your dog not to bite
We got our puppy at 8 weeks, she was really nippy too. Didn't really stop until she got her big teeth. I found giving her deer antlers to chew helped. She is almost 11 months now. Good luck.
oh my gosh inertia has grown soo much she knows so many tricks! Thanks again Zak George for making this series i just cant thank you enough. I now have my own puppy called Coco she is a week old. Since she is a Maltese she is a bit harder to train because of her size. Do you have any tips? Thx so much 😊!!!
How to get her to continue to do it when she gets bored. I have a mini poodle and fetch is boring after a while for her. I tried with treats and then without and she loses interest. I mix up tricks and she mastered all of them. I need your help, been to agility classes and she masters that too, finds it boring. UGH!
Looks like delightful fun and my dog is so easy to teach "tricks" like this, however, we have a big problem. I live in an apartment and have to walk to a location where there is room to play fetch. The last two times I took my dog to the school yard and let her off the leash, she took off running....all the way home, even across a busy street! Now I'm afraid to let her off the leash anywhere.
@@PattRedfern Thank you so much, Patrick, for the great idea. I did look into it!! I, in the process, learned also about reaching for a dog's collar from below and not above her neck.

@@carolinamassironiberchez2457 that's great! Have great Sunday in São Paulo! Greetings from California.
Love the new intro! Inertia’s such a cutie!!!
I’m going to convert to frisbee from my tennis ball thrower. Its valuable to get her to catch vs chase the ball
Good job Inertia ! I am so lucky my australian sheperd instinctively knew how to play fetch I just had to reinforce the behavior. Love your videos
WOW you are so patient!
This series is great because he started from the day he got her home as a tiny puppy 😍 She is growing so fast.
Interia is such a pro!!! I'm so impressed
This is great! I have a pretty big park that’s usually empty and gated so itll be an amazing way to practice this.
I love your videos! There are some great tips in this video! Inertia is so cute!🥰 Keep on doing what your doing!!🐕❤️🧡💛
You're really good tips for me to train my dog
What is your favorite dog frisbee? Some disc golf companies have dog lids in much tougher plastic that can stand up to dog teeth a lot longer. Try the Latitude 64 Bite. 👍🏼
Loving the intro !!
"But she's also being with a human being, like me." .... I love how it kinda sounded like he was questioning whether he was human or not. Maybe he's an alien 👽
Maybe a dog whispering alien 🤔
Lol
I struggled a lot of getting my beautiful puppy trained. Learning these tricks from you. Thanks a lot!
She’s so disciplined
She’s come so so far!
Oh she's such a good girl. Good job, Zak. Definitely following your lead (haaaa geddit?) when I get my puppy.
dude like the warm ups
Awesome tips, especially loved the warm up part! Thanks so much! :)
You are such a great trainier and the kind of owner I want to for my nexy dog.
I love this series!
Poppy, our 2 year old Collie, is not interested in the slightest with playing fetch, but she is so agile and energetic that I might try her again to see if she takes to it 😊
Excellent advice. Stunning dog!
I can only dream of doing this with my puppy
Its up to you not the pup
The Bengals need inertia for wide reciever lol
I love you so much you help me so much with my new puppy!😍
Good luck.
@@dawnross2514 haha well I can't get any deer antlers where I live in Australia but maybe a kangaroo antler
Man, Inertia is so cute and smart. His fetch seems very good
oh my gosh inertia has grown soo much she knows so many tricks! Thanks again Zak George for making this series i just cant thank you enough. I now have my own puppy called Coco she is a week old. Since she is a Maltese she is a bit harder to train because of her size. Do you have any tips? Thx so much 😊!!!
I have been following this series since inertia was a puppy and its amazing to see how much you have done with her. She is truly a well trained pup!
I do this with my lab only she chases hef ball she's always so hyper an this really calms her down she's like a different dog after
zak george should get 1 billion subs cause there are billions of untrained dogs out there.
Watch all your videos. Teaching kobe what I've learned from you thanks
Best tips time and time again, thank you!
How to get her to continue to do it when she gets bored. I have a mini poodle and fetch is boring after a while for her. I tried with treats and then without and she loses interest. I mix up tricks and she mastered all of them. I need your help, been to agility classes and she masters that too, finds it boring. UGH!
Zak, you are THE best dog trainer out there.
Now I'm afraid to let her off the leash anywhere.
look into "restrained recalls" and the long leashes he mentioned. Good luck!
@@PattRedfern Thank you so much, Patrick, for the great idea. I did look into it!! I, in the process, learned also about reaching for a dog's collar from below and not above her neck.
Zak can we teach a lhasa breed which is 2 years old to perform these tricks ..That is fetch, jumping and many more
Love your videos! Would love to see a video on tripaweds (3 legged dogs).
Time for me to go back and watch your earlier videos! That looks so fun!
You have helped me with training my golden so much!
Inertia's grown so much! 😭 So proud!
