It came out perfect and I'm so proud of how she looked in it. My daughter passed away since then and I have photos of her in the dress, priceless memories. She rarely dressed up so it's extra special.

In the movies, "The Sounds of Music" and "Enchanted" there are clothes made out of curtains. My challenge for you (should you choose to accept it), is to pick out some curtains and create an outfit from them. You can make a beautiful dress out of a table cloth, so I have no doubt you could do this if you wanted to.

😍 The dress makes me think of 1940s wedding dresses.
Thrifting material or repurposing things you have at home is a great way to learn. When I started sewing a lot of clothes for myself we did not have a lot of money and buying fabric from the fabric store was not something I could do often. I remember searching through my grandmothers old curtains when I was 14 years old. I found a pair of green floral curtains that I used to make a pair of pants. I loved to be able make something that no one else in school had.
Thrifting and repurposing materials is not only inexpensive and Eco friendly, it can also be a big part of the creative process. Working with what you have often forces you to make choises with how to construct or modify your pattern that you otherwise would not have done. It forces you to think creatively and helps you grow.
My grandmother was also a seamstress and she taught me so much and has been a big inspiration. Many years after making my curtain-pants I chose to become a crafts teacher and I have never stopped using curtains, bed sheets, tablecloths and old clothes both at work with my students and at home creating things for myself.
My grandfathers name was Gunnar. 🙂 He was a skilled wood turner. He taught me a lot too. Never wood turning, but problem solving and fixing and mending stuff.

Oh.my...Gunnar...you did such an amazing wedding dress. I've been married 31 yrs. This is a #1 wedding dress I would pic if it existed then. And looks like that dress in the Cars rock group with the emotion in emotion....and believe me...both are to fit a princess or queen!!! Thanks for showing us all your skills!!!

Absolutely beautiful! The 70s was my era, and you nailed that boho vibe. The sweetheart neckline is sooo pretty, and the tiers of the skirt are so feminine. It's one of my favorites of all your work! ❤

Gunner, I loved this video. I can’t stop buying beautiful vintage linens and curtains even though I don’t need them. They are so beautiful. Your gown is lovely! Vintage linens are great for first communion dresses and baptismal gowns. I took my deceased mother in laws wedding gown that no one wanted and turned it into a family baptismal gown that all her great grandchildren have used.

Beautiful! Reminded me of my first dress for SCA. Found some gorgeous colored curtains in the thrift store. I had that dress forever.
Never thought of cutting out the detail like you did. I'll have to try that.

I absolutely adore You!!!! You’re so talented and sweet!!! My husband is just wowed by your “ART”!!! I was born in 1963… My mother made all my clothes except for tights and socks… she even made slips for my dresses… We made a quilt together when I was a teenager… I can sew a few things… I made doll clothes for my red headed Midge and Barbies… I love those memories that watching you brings back… I had those curtains… 30 years ago… You just keep WOWING Us Please…

I grew up a coal miner’s daughter’s daughter in the Appalachian mountains in Pa and my paternal grandmother was a seamstress. She passed away before I was 21 and started ballroom dancing. She used to make some of my dance recital costumes and they were beautiful when I was younger and I really missed her and her resourcefulness when up against those expensive ballroom costumes. When you don’t have much you have family and we were close. Lots of talent but nothing in my pockets. I wish I would’ve had time to learn from her. Your story touched me. The result was gorgeous btw! ❤️❤️❤️🪡🧵

I just got done crocheting shawls for my daughter and two granddaughters. I put my mind to it and got it done. I'm so very proud of myself for sticking it out and getting the work completed. I go to the bag o day site on youtube for most inspiration, or other youtube sites. I recently found a simpl shawl design that is completely easy, nothing fancy. Nothing says love like homemade gifts!!

Sending you lots of love. I watched your short about this dress, and I wanted to let you know that you aren't alone. I was raised in a similar type of family, and my grandmother was the one person I was closest to. She died in 2020. I miss her everyday, and she helped me become the person I am now. Take it easy, and again, know you are never alone. ♡

Ummm… gorgeous!! I’m so thrilled to see your ingenuity! I made a white dress out of vintage lace curtains for a little girl I adore. It turned out so cute. She and her mom loved it! My mother was my influence in my sewing. With 7 children finances were tight. My mother would craft the most wonderful clothes out of things like bedsheets and hand me down fabric remnants. I enjoy learning your background is so simple and humble. It definitely brings even more of an appreciation for you and your talent.

I becam familiar with you on the short videos, great to see you make longer ones. My first wedding dress was actually made from curtain material because we could not find the tulle that I wanted in regular dressmaking fabric so we went to the kitchen fabrics and found just what I needed to make the dress. Your creations are just breathtaking. You are so talented.

Please skip through any such contribution. Try to feel pity towards those who are very obviously too bitter and vile to see the joy in what you do everyday.
