I have been DYING to take on a challenge like this, and I love to do a thrifted challenge, so this felt so fitting! The Britney Spears denim dress was such a moment when I was growing up, so I figured that a Gunnar spin on it could be a blast! I gave myself 2 days and 1 hundred dollars, although I only spent $77! I've been inspired by you to do things or make dresses at a young age like I am right now also I love your videos and what you make❤️❤️🤓🤩😄
Do you also teach how to construct custom face masks?
You are truly Blessed and Amazing.
♥️🌟♥️
Can you make a pink masquerade ball gown please Gunner
Hi love from India I like your videos
This was actually going to be my Met Gala post, but had to wait a few days for technical reasons! So glad you guys are enjoying the process of watching it come together!
What do you do with all your dresses? Do you sell them or donate them?
This met gala is coming soon realy your designing for 2022 met gala 🧐😮😱
💯% 👍🏻 YES BABY 👏🏻 YES 👍🏻
Gunnar, I honestly have made much fun and totally ragged on britney's denim or that time jlo did the fancy denim or the many other attempts at formal denim dresses that have been made.i mean they are really very weak in effect on any level they are measured as a design imo. Buuuut, you, totally, 100% , incredibly and beautifully KILLED IT. You completely made denim high fashion. It's gorgeous. Structurally it is phenomenal. And the movement you are able to get outta that denim! You literally smacked it and made it your bitch! I am in awe. I can only say that this denim dress is the ONLY attempt I've ever seen at high fashion denim that has been a success. Even including the Ralph Lauren attempts. And we know his ability w denim. But you. Well you made a masterpiece. A beautiful masterpiece.
So glad you had a model, loved watching the skirt move 💙
This is a gown that would have fit in perfect with the American Icon theme of the Met Gala, because what is more iconically American than denim? 💙 Wasn't sure about the skirt at first, but that tulle definitely made the difference!! Love it!
Lupita Nyong'o wore a denim-jeans dress in the 2021 met gala
I actually got to see the exhibit when it opened to the public and when you first walk in, you see quilted denim and other quilted items so it definitely would’ve worked!
I thought the exact same thing when I saw his creation! This dress needed to be at the Met Gala!
I thought the same thing. Love everything Gunner makes.
I just love you and everything you touch. The end. Love from England xxx
As much as I love your successes, I so appreciate that you also share your mistakes with us. I was watching and thought, "Wow, so it's not just me? Even professionals make mistakes." That's an encouraging thought
Highly encouraging. As a self taught sewist, it's always amazing when your teachers show their failures so you're not frustrated feeling like you can't do it the first time, every time. Because no one really can.
I am so bad.... it made me laugh, feel quilty now even if back to watch this video again & again.... 🙈
They are not mistakes. They are LEARNING experiences!!!
If you get something perfect on the first shot, did you ACTUALLY do that, or was it luck? I have a skirt project, that I had some problems with, and set it aside. Now I can think about how to correct it, and THEN continue. (If I can ever find the time)
SO true. You are a fab creator.
Yes and I was flabbergasted to realize that as moms can make mistakes too. I really must have had my mother on such a pedestal.
You’re a textiles magician. It’s actually mind blowing how you’re able to create such art relative to such a short amount of time.
The seam ripping section slayed me it was so relatable 😭✌🏽
Made shirt, used seam ripper to open buttonhole (thanks mom) riiippp😭 went to design school and how to do it with scissors and how to pull and break the sewing threads. The satan ripper never touched a garment ever again
I own 2 quik-un-picks, if that tells you anything. Definitely relatable.....
Definitely can relate to ripping out.....
That turned out so good!! You inspired me so much, I'm still learning about designing tho but your creativity is just, I don't even know what to say, keep on going!
Omg! Many years ago, I saw a denim ball gown in a magazine, and I fell in love with it. Everyone that I showed it to was like “eh”. Finally, someone who understands!!🥰 I also love your cat 🐱
THIS LOOKS SO GOOD GUNNAR!! 😍👏🏻👏🏻 You are truly so skilled and talented, thank you for sharing your amazing content!
Pretty awesome how adding the voluminous petticoat really brings the skirt to life! Also, seamripping is sewing life!! I feel your pain!
The dress is really lovely, but I would have loved to have seen more of the bodice detail on the finished garment, especially the waistband / belt that you toiled over.
Your denim gown was definitely ultra classy and didn’t have the patchwork quality of the others. Red carpet worthy!!!
Can you create a Anastasia inspired gown with a tutorial? I've been wanting to try and make it and don't have any good tutorials. Your dresses look fabulous 👌
Oh the blue dress with the gloves or her formal ball gown? Both are stunning!
This is actually gorgeous. And Gunnar, you are just adorable and vibrant. Love your videos and creations!
I 💘 💘 💘 this dress!!! The fitted bodice & full skirt! Dark on top & light on bottom-just hit the spot! 😍😍😍
You are who, in my mind, if I learned to sew, I would be. I dream up stuff all the time but can't do the output. I love, love, love your creativity. Thank you so much for sharing yourself with us.
That was taking casual denim to a whole new level. Loved it and the flow for such a heavy fabric, is amazing!!
lol "I'm always in pain" while smiling. what a mood XD
Lollllll
Absolutely love it. What you did underneath the skirt really made the dress. 💓
I'm new to the sewing machine, and, I agree, the seam ripper is definitely my best friend.
OMG....I WANT THAT DRESS...you definitely elevated the original look....bravo👏👏👏👏👏
I 💘 it! I'm so glad you made the top figure hugging down to that amazing full skirt!!
It’s always a challenge to work with a material you’re not used to….. and seam-ripping just has to happen apparently
But it came out sooooo classy and gorgeous, so definitely worth ittt
Cooool! A video that isn’t a short! Love to see the personality behind the fashionista.
I don't normally dig Denim. But this Dress is just gorgeous. I would so wear this. Beautiful. ❤️
Oh my the sad seam ripping bit is such a mood 🤣. Been there too many times 😥
Hi Gunnar, I'm new to ur channel but seriously I really wish I could have found u before🥺, like u look so sweet and always put a smile on my face☺️, and u r soo talented. Anyway, love from a stranger 💖.
Love how you added the existing waistband to the bodice 💜
You forgot to add "gift to this earth, pure angel, and goodest babu ever" 😃😁🥰 Watching your videos inspires me to try sewing things again!!! ☺☺
The best denim dress 👗 I ever saw. Your outdid them all!
Your style is so great and your skills as a artist in the world of fashion are just absolutely magnificent!😊🖤
You do beautiful work. I love to watch the process. It is an art project from beginning to end.
Seam ripping..ugg... in the end.. Gorgeous!! Diggin the weights and rings too!
Not a fan of denim skirts let alone denim dresses/gowns. Can't believe what you did! The choice of deep dark denim for the bodice total game changer! Your denim gown game is beyond anyone else's! No playing-just artistry.
❤ the cowboy shirt, the dress turned out so elegant😍
You are soooo talented! Wauw! I love your work!
I loved when you talked about your grandma. Mine was going to teach me how to sew but she doesn't remember who I am most days.
OMG honestly that gown is so beautiful and wearable. The way it moves when she walks 😍😍😍😍
Like always you've made beautiful dress & a great video!!! Did you know Goodwill has locations where they sell (last chance) EVERYTHING by the pound. Ordinarily, I'm not a fan of Goodwill but when you can buy all clothes/fabric/bedding etc for $1.49 per pound. It's the last stop before the landfill so it helps our planet. Buying cloth buy the pound has saved me a small fortune! The downside is that you need to be willing to 'dig for treasure'. All those jeans probably would cost maybe $5 total. Finding treasure feels sooo good. Good luck!!!
Ahh…communing with Jack the (seam) Ripper. We are old friends. Another stunning creation and entertaining video. Love, love, love.
The final dress is breathtaking
LOVE 💖 this dress (everything you do)! Where were you 30 years ago, I used to make all my suits, etc. Especially loved Vogue patterns.
OMG! I’m in pain all the time, to the point that I’m so used to it, it’s a part of me now!
I hope you feel better ❤❤
I've just subscribed yesterday and have been binge watching your videos since. Your work is amazing 👏 I'm feeling very inspired now to create my own pieces. I've had a dress makers manaquin for a while now with the intention of making my own clothes, now I've got the motivation 😀 thank you!!
You are gorgeous and your voice is so soothing. Of course your talent is off the charts. I'm a fan!
I love your dresses that you make. They are so beautiful ❤️
‘They ask how I keep my back from hurting, and *heh* I don’t. I’m always hurting 😃’
I LOVE your work and your personality!!
You should make a collection and have a break true!!
Here in the Netherlands you could be famous, I tell you 😉
Lot's of love from the Netherlands, Daniëlle 🙋😘
Wow! That is awesome! I like it better than the original one! Bravo 👏
This dress is everything 😍
Hey... smalk tip when seam ripping. Use a blade. It's so much easier and makes the whole process very satisfying. Ofc becareful not to cut the fabric. I hated seam ripping before. But now I kinda lowkey wishes something goes wrong so I cam seam rip using a blade
You did that!!!! Yours is my ultimate fav.
That dress would look so bomb with a few accesories and cute little rhinestone belts omg
Waw! Best jeans dress so far. 👏🏼
I love this dress.
Um no grandma, seam ripping is the worst. Lol. I love denim! I love the skirt especially! ❤️
I found you from your yt shorts and after watching for a bit I subbed! I don't regret it and this dress was beautiful!
I absolutely love your work! I would love to hear your back story. What got you into sewing and creating awesome masterpieces? How old were you when you started?
The "i'm just always in pain HaHahAhAHa" really spoke to me. ♥️
I wouldn’t think a dress made of old blue
Jeans, would look good, but actually does, your dress is very pretty.
Hi Gunnar! I’m from Houston and there is a thrift store chain that has items for as low as 50 cents on Tuesdays! If I knew how many jeans you need, I could buy them for you. I absolutely love your videos and wish you could come to Houston for the Rodeo next March! My husband and I would love to show you around! ❤
Dude, I could totally see that on the red carpet for a music award. Bravo!
My first CD was Britney's baby hit me one more time. I used to be obsessed with everything she wore lol. The all jeans trend is a hard one because it's either a hit or a miss. And I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the 2000's fashion but to you my dear sir, I tip my hat! I just really hope the whale tail trend doesn't come back, that one can stay their in the early 2000's
Saw you on my recommended. Prob from Eugene Yee Lang’s MetGala pics (so happy for him). Really love your take on the jeans dress. Would have enjoyed a few shots of the details. Loved the way you said “Grandma.” New sub. Look forward to getting to know you.
I'd like to see you do a denim gown with godet(sp?) inserts. I can only imagine the weight of the dress you made!! The bodice fit so nicely!!
NOW THIS IS MET GALA 2021 THEME. I swear only Lupita utilized denim, and btw this dress would have looked even better on her than the one she wore
My hero!!! I need a piece of art to wear to an event!
The skirt certainly was glorious with the tulle underneath! I just wish I could have seen the detailing of the top half: I tried to blowup the screen to catch the waist/belt but it still wasn't clear.
I’ll add more detail to my next video
Freaking amazing! I love it.
You are so talented!!! Beautiful 😍
I have never actually wanted to own a denim dress before. This might be my favorite thing you've done! My little girl says she would wear it everyday if she had one. Great job! :)
Love the dress.
I wish Britney had had this to wear. Classy denim ❤
I just watched animated cinderella and I would love to see her pink dress made. I liked what they did in terms of fashion with the live-action movie but I didn't love the pink dress. I also think a high fashion moment for the fairy godmother hooded cloak with the pink lining could be fun- like a Victorian Gothic look.
I'm also a fan of gender bending on classic male figures. I loved your Lydia Deetz but a female Beetlejuice is fun.
Or a female hades- that could be SUCH an amazing neckline. I see a fitted one-shoulder velvet piece (hello 90s!) with a sheer draping extended at the back and a fantastic skull brooch on the shoulder or even waist opposite of the shoulder..
Ugh. I wish I had a sewing machine. And could sew lol. Drawing is more of my art but I LOVE seeing YOUR art come together.
I was making a skirt last night and I’ve been seam ripping a lot because my stitches were all wonky and I put one of my pockets on too early. My seam ripper and I are besties at this point haha Oh and I also dropped a silk pin into my machine and I cannot find it even after taking the cover apart. I also knocked over my silk pins on to my floor. I guess I’m just not meant to sew today haha
Gosh it is so hard not to fall in love with guys on the internet that don't even know that I exist :C
That came out BEAUTIFULLY! I would have made it just a hair shorter though. I just don't like when dresses are actually dragging on the ground. Other than that, I LOVE IT!!!
I think you’re a great designer! I’d love to see your own creations, not re-dos of what someone else did! You have so much to offer!
Sometimes he makes his own creations too. I've been following him for a couple of weeks and that's not the only thing he can do.
I mean I used the concept as inspo but this dress it totally an original!!! Nothing about it is the same as the original!
@@GunnarDeatherage I did not mean to offend!! I LOVE your work. I just want to be on RUclips or TicToc some day and hear another designer say “I saw this dress made my Gunnar Deatherage made and love it, and wanted to do my own take on it”! I think you’re THAT good!! 💕
You’re was so much better than the original!!
Wow! Luv it! I ❤️ U Gunnar! 😊
I don't like mermaid skirts as a rule but this is stunning and sooooo much better than the Britney and Katy Perry dresses. Chef's Kiss beautiful xx
I swear, if there was one person I would want to make me a dress for prom, it would definitely be you. No doubt. No other person can convince me otherwise.
(Except I’m wearing a suit to prom instead of a dress and it’s not possible to get a custom dress of my own)
a suit could be really badass, I'm sure you'll pull it off! Most importantly, I hope you'll _feel_ amazing and have tons of fun!
@@nohandle508 thank you, I really appreciate that! I chose suit over dress was exactly because I look more badass with it lol. I'll have a lot of fun, pig out at the food section and stuff, that is really nice of you to say :)
Hey Gunnar💕💕💕
I'd love to see you design a plus size gown. If you need a model, I'm available!
Gunner you've done it again.. Another masterpiece!😘
Once AGAIN, you’ve created a masterpiece! Love, love, love!
I feel like this is miles better than the original version
Denim done right! OMFG I WANT THIS!!!
*I* rode the Brittany/XTina line!!! Like a true bisexual. Christina was robbed in that Madonna moment.
Looks fantastic. Do you think Spears would want to wear it for an iconic redo??
Where do I find the red tulle heart shaped beetle juice dress?? Saw a short of it, wow you are so brilliant!!
Está increíble y hermoso.
Now that is really cute!!
Just curious about how much the dress weighs? It turned out beautiful with the dark indigo fitted bodice!
Thanks for the video!
You could make a midi or even a mini version of this for day time. Because denim. I love the way this moves when she walks.
Absolutely gorgeous, you are so damn talented.
I CANNOT. Dead.
Only thing missing are pockets. I wonder how heavy the dress is
I love it.
That's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful😍
