My father was in 217 Sqdn flying Beauforts prior to their posting to Malta (this probably helped him survive the war as he became a radio instructor at RAF Millom). He joined up in 1938 and joined Coastal Command flying Ansons, later converting to Beauforts in 1941. I still have his logbook and full Irvine flying suit.
South African pilot ,English Navigator , Two New Zealanders . All survived the war .
Great story, my grandad told me this story about 30 years ago, he was based in Malta at that time flying beauforts, he also has it recorded as a note in his flight book.
Bloody terrible "music".
Thanks for watching and my apologies for the music.
Stressful and inappropriate soundtrack when you are trying the read the text.
I apologize
