My father was a radio operator/air gunner with 217 Sqdn. He joined up in 1938 and first flew in Ansons , then converted to Beauforts in 1940. “That is when the war became rather more serious”, as he took part in raids on German coastal installations along the French coast. I have recently received the Airfix kit of this aircraft and your video is a great help and very well presented.
White propeller tips before yellow. Genius! I've been at this since 1968, (on and off - more on now I've retired), and never thought of that one. Enjoyed the build and like your approach. This older modeller gets a little impatient with reviews that spend an eternity talking about the box and little time on the actual history of the subject. Subscribed 👍
You did a nice job not so ordinary bloke, I wouldn’t mind having a go at this one as my father helped build the full size Bristols at Filton during the war
Nice build my friend. Couple thoughts. 1. Using the pre cut masks- Apply a mixture of dish soap and water (mix it in a small cup) to the clear parts. If you have trouble getting the Mask in position, the soap and water allows you to "push" the mask into position. Blot dry and let it dry completly. Wheels (applies to any parts)- For the center Hub, paint them in the approiate color, place a piece of painters tape over the Hub. With a sharp blade, cut around the Hub (the difference between the Hub and Tire allows for a almost perfect mask) and then you can airbrush/Brush the wheel.
Very attractive build. I appreciate your emphasizing the fitting of the individual parts, which is the heart of the kit, a bit more than than exterior painting, etc. Also, enjoyed the brief historical introduction. The gouge in the propeller at 1:38 is astounding. Looks like it was dressed by a mechanic and signed off as airworthy. I believe it would be out of limits in a present day setting. Thanks.
My dad remembers the day his squadron was relieved off Korea, the remaining Seafire 47s were condemned on the spot. Peacetime rules, see? The day before they had been flying combat missions.
I bought this kit last week and I'm really looking forward to the build. I like the emphasis you've shown particularly with the undercarriage assembly and pointing out what to watch out for especially with all the 'fiddly' bits. I've also invested in a set of Eduard masks. The video is filmed superbly too!
You are so lucky to have the time to build these kits and upload all these videos! I really wish I could find a bit more time for my own channel. Top notch build right there by the way, I would be tempted to get one of these but I really should clear my stash out a bit. By the way, you should come chat with some of us on Discord if you have an account - good way to connect with other modellers and build your audience :D
I wish it were luck - more circumstance really. I work 2 days a week for a charity, I'm trying to monetise my hobby to supplement things by making kits the other 5 days a week! Lots of projects in mind to expand it as well. I'll check out Discord tomorrow - sounds a good way to keep in touch. And thanks for the very kind remarks!
Nice build. Only one thing that I will comment on is that I use Pink,as an undercoat for Yellow.. I can get away with only three thin coats of anyof the Humbrol Enamels Yellows. Brush painted.
That's a very nice build - and what a good looking kit. I've yet to build any of the modern Airfix twin engine aircraft kits - I really should give them a go.
Hi Just in the process of building this fine kit. One question what color paint did you use on the underside of the aircraft? Just got to that stage after masking al the glass by hand no masking pack it looks fine coming back to the paint I will be using Acrylic with an airbrush please let me know somebody as I cannot locate so far this color☺
I do wish Airfix could make their parts a little finer and more delicate. The internal details in particular appear rather 'blocky'. But your model came out really well - nice work!
Thanks Ian! I spend so much time on interiors then never see them again. I've been looking at the Italeri Stirling and the interior is amazing - but once those fuselage halves go together...
@@garys_stuff As a big admirer of your work and interesting videos, I wondered if this might be okay to ask a question here? I love aircraft interiors and it does grieve me to seal them away when building. You don't see a lot of mention out there of people leaving panels or roofs off? I'm tempted to go further and actually cut panels permanently out and leave them displayed like that. Could you mash up a couple of old kits and show me how that might best be done? Just perhaps, 1/72 or 1/48.
Hi buddy nice build really like the Beaufort. did you know icm are doing a 1/48 Beaufort next year now that will be fantastic. Thank you for sharing mate. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Nice kit and build very popular kit in Australia much anticipated sold out during lockdown hope Airfix bring out Australian version but british mk 1 a great start enjoyed watching your video cheers
I think with all the parts for the Mark 2 already on the sprue (unless the Double Wasp engine need radically different cowling) I would think it a dead cert they will do a later set of markings including Australian.
Working on one of these right now. I'm going with the night scheme. After building Airfix kits back in the day I was amazed at the beautiful fit of this one. Can we hope for an Anson of this quality?
Well, who knows? We'll find out on the 10th what Airfix has in store. Certainly there is a Victor coming, and the new Vulcan and Beaufort kits have bits for other versions. A 'Limping Annie' as it was disparagingly (yet lovingly) known would be a fabulous kit with possibilities of many schemes and versions.
Great build - I bought this a few months ago and might do it as a Christmas hols project. Did it need a lot of filler? - I see you have some around the fuselage join
Great build and one I want to add to the stash. With its release I can now model 80% of the a/c flow by 489(NZ) sqd. Only need a new tool Hampden, **Hint Hint** Airfix.
Another great video. Bought this on Tuesday (only went to get paint to finish the B2 Lanc!). Did you build/glue the glass nose in one go? I was wondering about letting the top section dry before adding the rest to avoid things moving around before it sets.
The canopy mask is made by Eduard, CX 588, the camouflage mask is by Top Notch TNM72-M036 - both of these are available though model stores or on eBay.
Taking on attackers who are coming from below and behind, one suspects, in planes where a tail or belly turret is not possible. Some Lancasters tried it too, just behind the bomb bay.
@@methaneman4045 that’s true, but I seem to get away with the smaller bits. Often when dry fitting it is apparent that a painted surface needs a gentle sanding to fit, otherwise I don’t worry about it!
@@garys_stuff thanks, getting around 5 starter sets + a larger previously mentioned kit so hopefully, I'll be able to purchase an airbrush and see if it's easier or improves anything

seeing the amount of so called modellers airbrush nowadays is so so off putting , by the time you've spent that amount of money on paint and an airbrush, you may as well have bought the bloody thing built
I do a mix of both brush and airbrush depending on what I want to achieve. I'm not a good brush painter yet so still rely on the airbrush for certain finishes...

Love to hear of a personal connection to a kit. Your father was a very brave man.
WW2 bombers had an average lifespan of ten missions. It was the most dangerous job in modern warfare.
I really love the histy you provide in the beginning of these.
